I'm also obsessed with evolutionary psychology. I read that the reason why most people are nervous while public speaking, is because, 1000s of years ago, when human civilization was just beginning, and we were living tribally, the only time one person would be singled out, and held in front of a large group of people, was when we were being accused of something. Makes so much sense, doesn't it? ☺️
elephantpop because it makes sense that way, you are scared of things that can put a risk to your survival. Being left alone 100000 years ago would have been a huge risk to your survival. Ever wondered why you fear snakes, spiders or bees but not flowers? Because flowers are harmless
okay but evolution is genetic. The personal experiences of ancestors doesn't change their or our DNA. That is like saying giraffes evolved long necks because each ancestor kept stretching their neck to reach higher branches (which is a totally false misconception of evolution) Only DNA gets passed on so explanations of evolution have to be based on genetics, NOT on personal experiences or feelings felt by ancestors (even though they make interesting points).

I'm definitely reading "What everybody is saying", sounds very practical... to certain environments. Knowing the background of the author, makes me think that it all applies to a "western orientated" environment. I'm saying this because I lived in Japan for 4 years and the example that you explained about putting your hands in your pockets, whether half of your hand is out or not, in Japan is just rude, or at least that is my experience. So, I'm sure that all these books about body language, influence and so on are great (I know Carnegie's work and it is amazing), but when reading them is very important to take into account that they don't really apply in any sociocultural context.
fantastic input, although I grew up in the United States I have large influences from outside western culture and also find hands in pockets extremely rude regardless of thumbs in/out.
@@rosesmith000 I can’t talk to people when I’m nervous without hands in pockets, it feels more grounding and protected. And I mean, I legit can’t focus because I’ll start nervous fidgeting and then my brain subconsciously focuses in on that which makes the nervousness worse

Totally random but relevant thing I learned from a wedding photographer: When you put your hands in your pockets, if you keep your thumb outside of your pockets, it helps you avoid a kyphotic posture (forward rounding of the back and shoulders) by pushing your shoulders back a bit!

I love when people find inspiration in books, and firmly believe they can be life-changing. Books are very important, go books!! There are so many that have influenced my life in different ways, but five that I can think of off the top of my head are: "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coehlo, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" by Caitlin Doughty, "The Noonday Demon" by Andrew Solomon, "Women, Food, and God" by Geneen Roth, and "Welcome to the Monkey House" by Kurt Vonnegut. Different types of books than influenced you, but we are of course different people ;)
I love the fact that you mentioned verbalizing your speech before you say it. I've been practicing that since I was a child in school. I did great even though I've been the most shy kid in the world. He got a team for youtube content, you can see them in some of his videos. So he only need to film (and practice the script), everything else are on the team.
Oh! I just watched this video now and I realized that Mike mentions the 'Flow' book written by a Hungarian writer. I am a Hungarian, so it's really awesome actually. And his name pronunciation : Mihaly (ly= i ;like Mike)-> Mih(a)i ; Csíkszentmihályi (cs=ch,like Chace , sz=s, ly=ai/ i) -> Chiksentmih(a)i. Cause 'ly' is a Hungarian letter ,and in Hungarian ABC 'ly' is another J( what Hungarian pronunciation is a 'I', like I am and doesn't matter J or LY, it is matter just written (spelling)
Yay, Positive Psychology! I actually did a minor on that and thought it was super interesting. Great that you've touched upon it cause you have so many viewers, so hopefully it'll become more well known
Just subscribed to your channel. Looooove your videos!!! You seem to be the sweetest doc ever! Ps: I'm Hungarian, so I know it's probably not easy for you to pronounce Csíkszentmihályi 😀😀.
I love my Atlas of Anatomy! Based on your recs, I have a few for you! I’d love to see what you think of “Breath”, and “The Road Back to You,” “Can’t Hurt Me,” “The Go Giver,” and, of course, “Daring Greatly!” I love self-improvement and relational books as well - every day is an opportunity to learn about the world, others and ourselves!
He literally just said 'New year new you' and now I had much hope thrust in me, changing my view on life in an instant... thank you, I'm going through so much and about to give up.
1. On Fear - J. Krishnamurti 2. Discourse on the Arts & Sciences - Rousseau 3. The Courage to be Disliked - F.Koga I.Kishimi 4. On the Shortness of Life - Seneca 5. The Book of Five Rings - M. Miyamoto
You should read the two books by Timothy Caufield, he is both a health sciences prof and a lawyer specializing in health policy. His books are about celebrities and their influence on health trends. His second one is all about gweneth Paltrow and her website Goop and he tried all of the pseudoscience and then interviewed science professionals about all of the things he tried, both books are amazing!
Csikszentmihalyi, Csik=cheek szent=Saint mi=me haly=hi i=i I know this is not the best presentation, but it is a hard language. I from Hungary same like the writer. I try to help how can you say his name.
Captain here: The last author is hungarian and he has a pretty complex name, although it's my native language. But I'll try my best because I really want you to pronounce it correctly :D In Mihaly (written correctly: Mihály), the 'ly' is a double letter, so you should say it like this: "Mihai" ("ály" is like the "y" in rely). In Csíkszentmihályi (it's written like this) the "í" stands for the long "i" (pronounced like the "ee" in see). "sz" is a double letter again, it simply means the letter "s" in hungarian. "mihályi" is pretty much pronounced like the first name, just put az extra "i" after the "y" sound (kind of like in hawaii). I'd like to hear it from you, now you have no excuses for not saying it! :D

I love these videos for recommendation for audible because I can't listen to fantasy and scifi books I have to read those, but these kind of books are great for when I'm in the car or just sitting in my room and wanting to listen in the background while I type.
thanks for the recommandations😊Have a great day!
He’s a very intellectual guy. I’m new to his channel and it’s such a breath of fresh air! Not only does he give us great content but he breaks down everything he says. Spreading knowledge all around. All respect goes to him and he deserves everything he’s accomplished in life! Bless you 🙏🏼
When I feel sad I come to his channel and feel much better and get health suggestions

Can Dr Mike literally write a book.. I want it
why is his laugh so contagious! gotta love doctor mike hahaha
can you please recommend some med books? thanks
Last week I ran my first 5k without stopping and all the time I could hear the voice in my head saying that I can do it. Forwago, thank you so much for everything!!
I have also read the book Flow, it makes lots of sense. I remember one chapter says one of things people enjoy the most is having deep conversation, that's so true!
I'm still quite shy, but with exposure and practicing my speeches loud at home I feel well prepared and always end up doing great :)

Thank you so much, I recently hit the bottom of my ''Book'' list , and picked up a random short story (184 pages), shorter than what I usually read/listen to, as a breather before going on with something more educational again.
Now I have a new book list thanks to you!
forget these books doctor mike... you changed my life😍❤️
I’m asking this seriously and with the purest intention,
being a doctor and all, how do you have time to film & edit & upload these?
Jana Jneinati I wonder that too. Are you secretly triplets Dr. Mike?
He would have a small team... films and edits for him.. 🙂
He got a team for youtube content, you can see them in some of his videos. So he only need to film (and practice the script), everything else are on the team.
I was wondering the same thing.....
But then,every person is unique.......
I was wondering the same 😂
This humble personality is so likeable with a mixture of great vibes^
R u kidding?
Dr.mike is one of the best readers i ever seen!

If that was a movie and he gets naked.... The movie would’ve sold out in a minute because all these thirsty women
That intro was awesome 😂😂❤️❤️
Dr. Mike, have you read the Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat? It’s my favorite book of all time!
I have read "Flow" it practically changed my life to be positive all the time and joy no matter what in my life!!:-)
Time management video please! 😊 Thank you for this!
Rachitha R yes! This would be a great topic to talk about!
I think you're too much friendly to your followers. Amazing. You share almost everything .

# All in one guy
Hats off to y.
Just subscribed to your channel. Looooove your videos!!! You seem to be the sweetest doc ever! Ps: I'm Hungarian, so I know it's probably not easy for you to pronounce Csíkszentmihályi 😀😀.
Hoffmann Reni iiiiiii
En olyan jot nevettem az arcan, amikor megjelent a nev az also sorban! 😁
I think nobody can pronounce this and I'm from Poland ahahahha ;P Love Hungary :)
Hoffmann Reni I think it's pronounced six-cent-mihaly. I don't know if that's right.
Fifty shades of grey 😂😂
Lol, apparently he also loves the idea of playing Christian Grey in the movie - read somewhere in the comments in some vid
He literally just said 'New year new you' and now I had much hope thrust in me, changing my view on life in an instant... thank you, I'm going through so much and about to give up.

stop gushing over some random dude before your boyfriend sees
You're not a doctor, you're the right embodiment of a true entrepreneur. Love your work Mike.
Csikszentmihalyi, Csik=cheek szent=Saint mi=me haly=hi i=i
I know this is not the best presentation, but it is a hard language. I from Hungary same like the writer. I try to help how can you say his name.
Milky Sensei thanks!
Isn’t he fron Russia?
Da e din Rusia, Mihaita : ))
Which syllable is stressed?
PLbarit1 the first!
Captain here:
The last author is hungarian and he has a pretty complex name, although it's my native language. But I'll try my best because I really want you to pronounce it correctly :D
In Mihaly (written correctly: Mihály), the 'ly' is a double letter, so you should say it like this: "Mihai" ("ály" is like the "y" in rely).
😂😂😂your bloopers ALWAYS make me smile so thank you for that😁
Q&A: Do you believe in the part of behaviorism where if a person has something good happen to them, they're more likely to do it again and visa versa?
Dr. Mike can talk about literally anything and I’ll watch the whole video
Hahaha ,me too😂😂
Wow I'm definitely going to read some of these! Thanks Doctor Mike!
