But not like melee always mean a pair fight either, we not always stick in the boss's butt if we want to play fair.

Thank you so much! I've been dying to him for ages and then I killed him on my second try with this method. I used the Arbalest at +8. I killed the dragon normally with my sword and then went full crossbow in the second phase... He just lets you hit him for ages as you walk away. Thanks a lot
+Wait, What I agree, which is why I changed how I fought. Attack the dragons head then lock off get some distance and lock on to the boss again and wait for another opening. Was able to get past the first phase fairly easy, sometimes without even taking a hit.
It's supposed to be difficult. It's not supposed to be done first try. Practice and learn how the fight works, it may take an hour or even 10 hours, but at least you'd feel you have earned it after you kill him. Most people try it a few times and give up after 20 minutes just to find a cheese online. A game like this is not made for them. But the most annoying thing is that they probably feel great after beating him by doing something cheesy like this, when in fact, they should feel shame. :)))))
Daniel J The whole git gud mentality needs to stop. If people want to cheese a boss after dying to it 40-50 times, then that's good for them. The whole point of the Soulsborne games is its replay-ability with its hundreds of build paths and kill strats. If you can beat a boss with just your balls deep strat, good for you. However, some of us would rather find alternatives to beating a boss rather than going rambo. Sorry boy, but if a Soulsborne game boss's weaknesses can be exploited, then it probably wasn't a good boss to begin with.
Dragonslayer greatsheld, Arbalest +10, Anri's Straight Sword +10, took down this boss in a single attempt. Works like a charm. Thank you for this video. On my first strength build character, I managed to beat him on melee. And boy, what a struggle.
personally, i just use the dragonslayer greatshield combined with chloranthy and blossom. The sheild had 95 lightning protection with insane stability so it works like a charm.

Very nice, I guess im weird but I have a much harder time dealing with the first form than second one. I hate fighting the camera and switching lock ons and bosses that I can't hit at times. On NG+ I'll try out the crossbow for the first stage and switch to main weapon for the fight. Great video and a unique take on one of the hardest bosses.
I never thought to use it. It took me 4 times with my +10 long sword with human pine resin it's pretty easy just gotta watch out for his grab. Thts the only reason he beat me the previous 3. And make sure you have a lighting resistant shield like the spirit tree crest one.
well played sir. I died roughly 15 times against the twin princes but I took this guy down on my 4th try, and one attempt was me trying to snipe him off his dragon with a bow haha. I don't know how it wasn't so hard for me but I'll take it. I ended up cheesing Pontiff Sulyvahn with the Black Bow of Pharis on NG+ and it was wayyyy easier than getting him down with melee.
This guy is not too bad. I beat him in around 5 tries. To be fair, I am a souls veteran. The most difficult part for me was probably the dragon. While going for its head, you oftentimes lose sight of his lance coming down on you. When fighting him alone, his attacks are decently telegraphed and he actually gives you room to breath. Now Sulyvahn, that guy is pure evil. He has insanely long combos, magic and flame damage, and he can close long distances in a flash so think twice before you chug that estus.
pontif wasn't so hard for me when i found out you can reliably block his attacks with a decent shield. so i hope i wont be having so much hard time with this guy
Maybe it was just pure luck, but I beat Sullivan in the 2nd try and I'm stuck with this guy!! 30+ and counting.. I'm thinking to re-spec or give a try to this range tactic..
Ronald Torres yeah try ranged if you cant beat him melee good thing with xbows no need high stats to deal damage. pontiff isn't that hard but dancer that bitch can burn in hell.

Heres how i beat him in my second try on NG+2. I did not used the crossbow for the dragon part, just used the katana to hit the dragon untill i beat him and the second pase i did Equip the Crossbow Arbalest+10 with with exploiding bolts and shot him from far and it did big damage and when he ran towards me with his spear i dodge, he will be very close to you and he will be vulnerable for like 2 seconds then hit him with a fast weapon ( i used the dual katanas) one or 2 times (don't get gredy) and then run away and start shoting him again with the bolts and repeat until he's gone.
after so many times...i've defeated him...completly nake but only with dragonslayer shield and dark knight sword+10..one of the most beautiful battles in a game
Is there some kind of hidden difficulty setting or something. I have been trying your method and all he does is ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK.. I can't get any space between me and him, and when I do shoot him, it just pisses him off and he goes into RAGE mode. This is only my first play through and this boss is UNREAL. Thoughts, LOL

Just use crystal soul spear... It three hits the dragon (Like the first hit staggers him), It does a good amount against the Nameless king, I finished the boss fight in under 2 minutes.
I know, most people do it in 4 or 5 tries. Hear me out, though- the soulsborne series is unique in the way that different people find different areas and bosses hard. For example, while the Nameless King really fucked me over, the bosses Champion and Iudex Gundyr, Oceiros and the Dragonslayer Armor are 4 bosses that I've heard a lot of complaints about, yet I beat them all on my first try. This isn't meant to be a boast- as I said, other ones like the Nameless King were horrible for me- but I do think that there's a massive disparity in people's experiences of difficulty, possibly because of playstyle differences and the like. TL;DR It's different for different people/ I need to git gud/ I should have done a strength build so I could just riposte the guy
Lightning would be bad for the king himself, he's very resistant to it. That said..... If you have fire bolts, or something of the sort..... now is the time to use them. I recommend Avelyn, it's the best crossbow in the game. Throw that fucker up to +9, load bolts in it that hurt whatever is pissing you off, and let 'er rip.
william patterson I would say 6/10 if your skill on bow are average because remember this. Dragonrider Bow deal more damage but the draw time is longer. Remember to dodge and don't get greedy. ,Overall I would say Aveleyn is the safer choice, but hey if you got the skill, Dragonrider is the faster way.
This strategy doesn't work at all for me. Every time I do what he does and get several shots from under him he just flies straight up and shoots fire downward.

This just looked harder then a melee approach using the "same strategy". I mean using a one handed weapon with a faster moveset(straight swords, scimitars etc.) then bait his charges allows for 3x the damage and less openings. Avoid charge, bash him 2-3 times, roll backwards 3x and repeat. But nicely done regardless.
+3P1C4 It may not look different but it is way different. Up close you have a higher chance of getting impaled by his charge attack, and get slaughtered by his 3 hit combo (with a delayed swing in there to make you dodge early). Not to mention his instant transmission move (boss swings around you and attacks from behind) where you lose the lock on because he moves too fast. It's very different.
Im honestly playing with mouse+keboard so I dont have any of the lock on problems due to the faster response ^^ Unlike DS1 this game is very playable with mouse+keyboard
Cheesy. I know I sound like a fanboy when I say that this robs you of the experience but hear me out. This is the most epic boss in DS3 and also there's evidence to support that the nameless King is Gwyn's first born. It doesn't do him justice if you defeat him this way. But good job anyway.
Worst boss fight in any Dark Souls game. The camera is awful. The attack hit boxes are ridiculous. The second phase is stupidly difficult. The move mechanics are buggy and unpredictable. Just awful.

The two bosses that I couldn't beat were the soul of cinder and this guy by which I got so frustrated I completely changed my build from pyromancer to full on sorcerer 60 intelligence, court wizard staff +10 Got the sage and mah dragon rings on to boost mah damage and kept spamming great heavy soul arrow easiest win I ever got.
Levi Something Man how'd you have a hard time with soul of cinder. If you've made it through the twin princes, dancer and pontif then im pretry sure the soul of cinder was a cakewalk. Or atleast it was for me. (pontif, dancer and yaoobros whoppedy ass multiple times though😂)
seriously Try it with a good shield (high lightning resist) or just roll, this boss is kinda easy once you figure out how to fight him again because his moveset is very predictiable with fast melee weapon and a few rolls here and there then counter attack (remember not being greedy that's all you need to kill all the bosses in dark souls).

I really cracked up a couple of times, because you can't dodge shit but don't give a fuck about it and just keep backpaddling and shooting that crossbow :D At some point I was like "come on, at least raise that shield when he does his lightning bolt". No offense, this is great :D
I prefer melee fight, no shield, only my dear Chaos Blade. combined with some ranged weapon (Phari's bow in my case) I think you 'kill' the boss using this kind of "tactics" I wouldn't enjoy the fight doing that, but doesn't mean is a good job, The Nameless King is still the hardest boss ^^ (I actually uploaded my fight against him too, Idk why)
+epicnoobs99 the guy that sells them kinda dissapear in my game, no idea what happen to him. I used standard bolts and wood, my crossbow was upgraded to +7 tho, worked and each hit take ok hp from him, not that bad. You can upgrade the crossbow more but i didnt want to waste chunks
+krlitos You can buy chunks for 12 000 souls or something like that. Easy to upgrade your stuff. However tabs are more rare. On my first run I found only 5 or 6 of them. I know Siegward has one if you complete his quest but I killed him(not on purpose of course^^). Anyway, I ll try with the crossbow next. Thx.
Shenmuehua yea, i got enough chunks, have like 3 weapons +10 lol i just didnt want to waste unecesary one on a crossbow i probably wont use much but thinking about it i might need it later, who knows.

ikr, this game isn't all about using swords. we need to use tactics on this game. heck i even use bow on dancer of the boreal valley and sword both..
if anything it makes the game more fun having so many types and styles to play around with!

difficult attacks? The fog is the difficult attacks... The best way I have found is to just dodge backwards because it's too wide.
The vertical fog blast he throws at you that moves fast is easy to dodge. The other one you can roll through it.

Dragon slayer armour great shield basically negates his attacks if anyone is having trouble with him

Everyone complains about aldritch and pontiff. Easiest bosses for me. Nameless king however. Took me about 12 tries the first time.
people who play souls games use the word Disparity cause they learned the definition after hearing it in the opening cutscene in dark souls 1.

I am trying this at SL1 with a +4 light crossbow and astora straight sword and phase 2 is a nightmare, can't get him past 60%.
I just used the dragonslayer great axe with my str and dex at 40, spanked this boss asap.
It's not a bad approach but it takes so damn long, I just use the black knight axe, it does like 1k damage in 1 normal hit.

This strategy doesn't work at all for me. Every time I do what he does and get several shots from under him he just flies straight up and shoots fire downward.

+Randy Moore Depends on which one you plan on using. I've always used crossbows to get an enemies attention so I don't have to fight a large mob.

This just looked harder then a melee approach using the "same strategy". I mean using a one handed weapon with a faster moveset(straight swords, scimitars etc.) then bait his charges allows for 3x the damage and less openings. Avoid charge, bash him 2-3 times, roll backwards 3x and repeat.
But nicely done regardless.
I'm going to try this because I'm struggling with his 2nd phase.
easier way is to use bleed since he's not immune to it. faith build = dorhys or avalynn with bleed
This is true, I smacked his shit around with my Carthus Curved sword, bled like a stuck pig until he hit 50%.
Then I got assraped by that Grab.
doesnt look any different from doing it with a meele weapon, exept u dealing way less damage to him and the fight takes ages ^^
+3P1C4 It may not look different but it is way different. Up close you have a higher chance of getting impaled by his charge attack, and get slaughtered by his 3 hit combo (with a delayed swing in there to make you dodge early). Not to mention his instant transmission move (boss swings around you and attacks from behind) where you lose the lock on because he moves too fast. It's very different.
Im honestly playing with mouse+keboard so I dont have any of the lock on problems due to the faster response ^^ Unlike DS1 this game is very playable with mouse+keyboard
I killed him using a Heavy Spiked Mace +9 and an Arbalest +6, it worked pretty well ^^
Cheesy. I know I sound like a fanboy when I say that this robs you of the experience but hear me out. This is the most epic boss in DS3 and also there's evidence to support that the nameless King is Gwyn's first born. It doesn't do him justice if you defeat him this way. But good job anyway.

Worst boss fight in any Dark Souls game. The camera is awful. The attack hit boxes are ridiculous. The second phase is stupidly difficult. The move mechanics are buggy and unpredictable. Just awful.

The two bosses that I couldn't beat were the soul of cinder and this guy by which I got so frustrated I completely changed my build from pyromancer to full on sorcerer 60 intelligence, court wizard staff +10
Got the sage and mah dragon rings on to boost mah damage and kept spamming great heavy soul arrow easiest win I ever got.
Levi Something Man how'd you have a hard time with soul of cinder. If you've made it through the twin princes, dancer and pontif then im pretry sure the soul of cinder was a cakewalk. Or atleast it was for me. (pontif, dancer and yaoobros whoppedy ass multiple times though😂)

seriously Try it with a good shield (high lightning resist) or just roll,
this boss is kinda easy once you figure out how to fight him again because his moveset is very predictiable with fast melee weapon and a few rolls here and there then counter attack (remember not being greedy that's all you need to kill all the bosses in dark souls).
I use the dragonslayer shield, I can tank some hits with it.
Slow, but efficient!
Lol, this is awesome :D I just killed him properly and now I'm watching videos of other people doing it. I really cracked up a couple of times, because you can't dodge shit but don't give a fuck about it and just keep backpaddling and shooting that crossbow :D At some point I was like "come on, at least raise that shield when he does his lightning bolt". No offense, this is great :D
luck build with anri ss and carthus rouge or luck with oni/ubi works great on this guy.
watches clip - it takes forever using crossbow. Sees clip is 6 min - realize it took me over an hour
I prefer melee fight, no shield, only my dear Chaos Blade. combined with some ranged weapon (Phari's bow in my case)
I think you 'kill' the boss using this kind of "tactics"
I wouldn't enjoy the fight doing that, but doesn't mean is a good job, The Nameless King is still the hardest boss ^^

You can just by them from the shrine handmaiden.
+epicnoobs99 the guy that sells them kinda dissapear in my game, no idea what happen to him. I used standard bolts and wood, my crossbow was upgraded to +7 tho, worked and each hit take ok hp from him, not that bad. You can upgrade the crossbow more but i didnt want to waste chunks
+krlitos You can buy chunks for 12 000 souls or something like that. Easy to upgrade your stuff. However tabs are more rare. On my first run I found only 5 or 6 of them. I know Siegward has one if you complete his quest but I killed him(not on purpose of course^^).

Shenmuehua yea, i got enough chunks, have like 3 weapons +10 lol i just didnt want to waste unecesary one on a crossbow i probably wont use much but thinking about it i might need it later, who knows.

Corey Hunter cool. I am working on beating him right now actually. I might try this strategy but I will give it a few more tries the traditional way first :) I can get the dragon down pretty easily but I have had a little trouble fighting the rider.
