    I have a casual wardrobe with a gothic twist and even I get sick of black black black. Jewel tones are my favorite thing to throw in. A scarf is easy in the winter, or in the summer, colored shoes. I swear, I think alternative types started doing their hair bright colors because black clothes get so incredibly boring.

    I started a capsule wardrobe a couple of years ago by "accident"... I think i just matured out of the throw away fashion idea, and I wanted nicer qualities pieces ... more bang for my buck. I began with the idea that most pieces I would have would be clothes o could wear 9 months out of the year... with extreme summer anx extreme winter having a few more pieces added in. Through my journey I found I really love to stick with navy, pastel, pinks and taupe. I got really tired of black so I dont have near as much of it as I used too. I also love to change my style up with scarves. I quit buying cheap hurt your feet shoes about 3 years ago. I also do my best to buy from companies that support sustainable living through textile work such as Peruvian Connection, Eileen Fisher, and Garnet Hill. Garnet Hill has made a whole business model after the idea of staying within a certain color palette. Thanks for your video and helping educate women !

    I'm in the beginning stages of minimizing and building capsule wardrobes. I've discovered I love blue jeans, and grey or black leggings, so all my bottoms are neutral. I have fun with my tops though. I like to stick with blues that compliment my eyes, and reds that compliment my skin. Because I am petite, all of my tshirts and tanks are neutral, but my blouses, fancy tops and cardigans are fun colors. Can't forget scarves either! I love scarves and I have so many, but they are so colorful and fun and soft, I don't feel bad about owning so many! Lol!

    This video is a life changer! Thank you, thank you Justine! I'm having so much fun creating my palette de couleur on Pinterest. The idea of a capsule wardrobe has always appealed to me, but this is the first time I've ever understood how I can make it work for me. I love your channel and find it very unique and helpful ~ thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge with us!

    I want to thank you for making this capsule wardrobe series. Your advice has been so helpful. I recently had my, "Ah Ha" breakthrough moment. I have always had difficulty incorporating color effectively into my wardrobe. I took the advice you shared in this series. During a recent online purchase, as I checked my shopping cart, I could see what you have been saying about buying from a color pallet. All the tops I bought were a different color, cut, or style, yet all belonging to the same pallet. This is a game changer for me. Thank you!

    Wow thank you so much for your tips. Last year my wardrobe overwhelmed me, so I donated all colors from my wardrobe. I was left with grey, black and white. I cut off my henna black hair and let my Salt and Pepper shine through. I learned that I loved the pastel purple and animal print. I would wear white with back stripes. Maybe I will add white with black polka dots or abstract prints. I have always been complimented when I wear a blue based red. I think I will add lavender tops to my wardrobe. Add animal print scarves. I will wear a blue based red lipstick and find an awesome red cross body. I will see how I can add blue to my wardrobe. So thank for inspiring me to add more personality to my wardrobe.

      Justine Leconte officiel Yes please!! I am studying watercolors and learning cool vs warm, but am lost when trying to do the same in fabrics. I think for me the textile clouds my judgement. Warm, cozy sweater in a warm orange-red ✅, but a blue-red magenta is "cool"❓🙃 Your color videos are wonderful, love your smart, distilled explanations.

    Very interesting! Just one question: you talked about adding colors that were either all-cool or all-warm. But after you chose the warm red, I didn't understand the dark blue. Isn't blue a "cool" color? Could you please follow up on your definitions of warm and cool? Or maybe link to a video showing the color spectrum, and you talk about chroma, hue, cool, warm, monochrome, etc.
    I'm enjoying these films and will stay tuned. Thank you!

      Hello! Here are some discussions that I hope illustrate the difference between warmer and cooler blues: insideoutstyleblog.com/2014/09/how-to-identify-warm-blues-and-cool-greens.html and www.janeblundellart.com/warm-blues.html and www.sensationalcolor.com/understanding-color/theory/color-temperature-warm-cool-relative-815#.WO0AW2nyvIU Justine correctly called the darker blue she chose "warm" because it's closer to the yellow/orange side than say, celeste, would be. (Hoping this clarifies her choice a bit more! Isn't she fabulous?)

    • @Lighthouse1852
      @Lighthouse1852 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Irai, thanks for those links! Color analysis is fun. As a watercolorist I'll really enjoy the Jane Blundell link.
      Interestingly, did you notice how these sources contradict each other? Imogen talks about green-leaning blues (phtalo, prussian, cerulean and turquoise blues) as "warm blues" because they contain a hint of yellow. In contrast, the other two links describe purpleish blues as warmer, because they lean red. So, which is it?
      I can't make up my mind. I was pretty sure that every shade of blue is generally "cool", simply because blues are the polar opposites of the hottest color on the color wheel: yellow-orange.
      The best answer might be "relative" coolness. As Jane Blundell suggests, two shades of red (warms) can still have one that's relatively warmer than the other. So, between two blues, one may be relatively speaking warmer. But I still have difficulty with the concept that a blue could ever be a "warm" color when talking about colors in general.
      Justine is fabulous all right. I'm so glad I found her channel!

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes! I know they contradict each other, and I think you hit the nail on the head when you spoke of the "relative" coolness or warmth of a color. It's like when you want to paint a bedroom blue because it would lend an air of calm, and then you go to the paint store and see a thousand of blue shades, many of which are NOT calm at all and could, in fact, cause seizures. :-) I agree, any shade of red will be always be warmer than any shade of blue, but "royal blue" would be warmer than "baby blue" because it's closer to the center of the wheel and located at a shorter distance from red. It's so interesting!
      I'm glad I found Justine too!

    As time passes by, your advice is still absolutely useful. By the way, i personally love colours but i did not use to wear them because i used too be too overweight to feel confortable in them, so i covered myself mostly in black. Now and i am feeling more confident (and less overweight) i am gradually gravitating toward a colourful wardrobe. BUT. Even if i am not overweight anymore, i am still a pear shape body type, so i find that my bottoms look better on me if they are darker than the upper part. For that reason, i keep the black, navy, and dark denim (pretty neutral, uh!) for my trousers, and i feel free to go wild with the upper part. It's lot of fun, i don't have to be too careful with the pairings, and i can keep in use some of my old favorite pieces too. Next i want to do, anyway, is to get bold, mixing a colourful upper part with some accent colour in the accessories. Let's see how it will get!

    Hello Justine,
    I love your videos and I have learned a lot from them! Right now I am really having trouble finding a prom dress without contributing to the fast fashion industry. Is there any website/store that you would recommend? I was thinking about making my own dress, but I don't know how to sew. Is it hard to learn?

    • @justineleconte
      @justineleconte  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +DamnItsSam first of all, congrats on trying to not go with the standard fast fashion dresses. Learning how to sew is not so hard, however building an evening dress (and get it to fit you properly) is not exactly the "beginner level". If you look for a summer evening dress (not in the prom' department), you will find more choice, better materials - and it will work just fine for a prom' night. Keep me posted!!

    I think minimalism works because eliminating unnecessary things should help you decide- that's a rule -too many options don't have the best outcome!!! It's illusion... I like this channel, enjoy watching videos !!! but have to say this. Recently I've come up with the quote by Erich Mariah Remarque (as stated)- thinking logically is good but not living logically. Sometimes even the colors designers say don't match can work in a bigger picture. Also, once I've been told that it's better to be happy in the end than always beautiful...
    Also, I see a lot when people ask this kind of questions- I like your blouse, where is it from ?? The last of the 10 commandments is- don't wish that what your neighbor has - house , wife or anything else (CLOTHES TOO!!!!).

    I like to not think about a color limit when buying tops and dresses- I buy whatever I like. For me the trick is to (try to!) stick to neutral pants and shoes and cardigans - then everything will automatically match. At least I think so ;) For me the more worrisome part is to make sure the shapes/cuts of all your clothes go well together. like, what silhouette do you aim for? I think that's just as difficult as matching colors :-/I wonder if I'll ever have a fully matching wardrobe. I would like to ;)

      I love colors myself but would like to add some neutral pieces. But I’ll never get rid of my colors plus a few on my family say it goes with my personality. 😉

      Ina Valdes I am no expert, but white (or ivory/offwhite, depending in your skin tone) with dark blue was the first thing that came to my mind. I always envy girls/women who can pull that combination off. :-)

      Sage, Rosemary, or Olive all look fabulous with terra cotta... think about how you would see those colors together in the natural world. Of course, cream and warmer yellows look great, too! Look at some photography of houses with terracotta rooves for inspiration :)

      I purchased one dark berry and a vivid sort of dark green pants although I love the colors of both I’m also at a loss what to match with? A simple neutral t-shirt would suit just fine but looking for some other easy pieces to match also. I’m a petite 5’3.

    I just don't LIKE capsule wardrobes. I get why they work and why others like them, but half the joy of fashion is being a whole new person every day. I like that one day I can be a Lolita fairy princess, the next day a farmer, then a teacher or in an office, then pastel goth and so on. I like the freedom of many different types and colors of clothes. But then, I'm not a minimalist at all.

    Dear Justine.Since I live in a warm country, and I love colors, I would like to share with you my "capsule". I have 4 pairs of pants: red wine , sage green, black and a pair of jeans. Around those 4 colors, run all my different tops, either for winter or crossing seasons. I just have to pick the top I want for each day and automatically find the pants that go with it.

    If my work wardrobe and the clothes I wear when I am not in the office are completely different in style, boldness and colour, what can I do to start my capsule wardrobe?

    • @dianaconnolly8778

      I have two wardrobes. Black, deep red, white, metallic bronze and deep golden yellow for work and formal; Dark indigo, dark olive, grass green, golden brown for casual. Of course I mix a little. I like deep, rich, warm colors so they all can work together. I focus on keeping my colors in my palette, but there's no way I could do a true capsule. It's just not my personality!

      I assume you spend most of your time at work so maybe do 70% of your pieces for work and 30% for your off days

    The dark red you picked looked cool (blue undertones) on my monitor. It was darker but not warmer. It may be my monitor. What was the coloraid paper designation? I have a terrible time with capsule wardrobes due to my yellow undertones. Black and white don't work for me, and I have to avoid most blues like the plague... and colors that have blue in them.

      Cream,, beige and chocolate will work better as your neutrals.
