Regine Velasquez... The Asia's Songbird... the Queen...
She for many years held the title as being the one to belt out the highest note for a Filipina belter which is a B5 note.
Recently Jonalyn matched every note Regine has belted, by belting her own B5, after she belted Bb5, A5, G#5, G5, G#5 and many other notes.
She was the first ever grand champion from the singing competition Pinoy Pop Superstar in the Philipines and then won in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS in Hollywood where she bagged 5 GOLD MEDALS.
She is known for her soulful voice, extreme belting ability, and the ability to sing in the whistle register. She has cited Mariah Carey and Regine Velasquez as her greatest musical influence, along with Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.
She is currently in a group called La Diva with Aicelle Santos as alto, Maricris Garcia as mezzo-soprano and Viray as Soprano. She was also in a group called DECIBELLES with Kyla and Rachelle Ann Go. She had a recent concert with Frencheska Farr and Julie Ann San Jose entitled 'Beyond Limits'.
She is in contemporary with Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Charice Pempengco, Kyla, Angeline Quinto and Nina Girado. - เพลง
Regine is a legend and the standard of Philippines singer. But, Jonalyn is young and yet with a powerful voice. Can head voive, whistle, etc. I'm wishing she could belt C6 note in mixed! :))
Regine is a once in a lifetime talent. The girl is crazy good. Ya'll should just be glad that there is a buttload of great singers in the Philippines.

i like jonayn and i believe that she has such potential also na sana bigyan din ng pansin. But of course, it is a fact and given already that Regine is the greatest singer here in the Philippines. But we have to welcome the new generation also. =)

regine has always had her exceptional range and belting mastery ever since, but when she was young she had this thin voice and her resonance isn't as good as now.
watched her got better by time. i believe she had her exceptional in mid or late 20's or in her early 30's.

Regine is seasoned through time and experience. No question about her. Jonalyn could be the next songbird in time. They're both great singers!

so her highest belted note is B5

@muzikchesk they both belted in mixed, but i want to emphasize that they did it CHEST DOMINANTLY.
You can belt using mixed, head dominantly like patti, aretha, chaka khan, angeline quinto, rachelle ann go
or belt chest dominantly like regine, jonalyn, charice, whitney, mariah
with the B5, Regine and Jonalyn both belted in mixed chest dominantly, Regine with more resonance and more chest:head ratio
Bb5 regine got more resonance, but they have almost chest amount
A5 jonalyn has more chest

@muzikchesk Regine is the best in the world. she has the best RESONANCE and RANGE, best TONE on belted high notes, chesty belts, crystal clear voice, etc, she is a vocal prodigy.
Jonalyn is by far the only one i've seen closest to regine.

and jonalyn can do coloratura(opera) and whistles! :-)

Every local belter would wish to follow the footsteps of Regine. However, the Songbird has set an indefatigable standard in live singing and belting that her name and style have long been added to the Philippine music dictionary. "Regine Velasquez" begets belting and belting is the synonym for the name Regine.
Jonalyn is one of the most powerful voices of her generation but in my humble opinion, not any of them will ever be the next Regine Velasquez., or at least not in this lifetime.
@denskie14 thanks. jonalyn's 20 or 21. maybe a few years now, she'll be closer to regine's virtuosity and exceptionalism.

Sayang si Jonalyn, sana lipat sya sa ABS para mabigyan sya ng malalaking breaks. Matagal na sya sa GMA ganyan parin. Si Sarah ilang beses ng pinuno ang Araneta nasa naghahandle lang yan. Sa marketing na magaling magplano para maelift up ang mga talents nila para sumikat. Ngayon si Zendee unti unti ng nawawala sa ere ng kasikatan. Lalong matatabunan yan sa pag-usbong ni KZ T.

Regine has more resonnance when it comes to very high belting, (her B5 was just out of this world) and Jonalyn poked that B5, she didn't sustained it. I don't think Jonalyne will ever reach Regine technique in high belts. And what makes Regine unique is not the pitch of the note (lots of female gospels singers can sing crazy B5 or C6 or even mixed D6), but the perfection of the note, her very high belts are so strong, resonant, full of color.
@muzikchesk panu nya i sustain eh after that group na, kung solo spot baka gagawin nya like in open arms, out here on my own coming in and out of the rain....Jona will not do that para lang mapansin cya...Jona so down to earth and d cya ung tipo na nanlalamang sa kapwa nya singers,,...unlike nga ung iba...hirap n nga, cila pa umeeksena...db....kaya lets be proud of Jona kasi dalawa na pinay na naka gawa nito....ung next d pa ntn alam.....

@muzikchesk hello Regine used her mixed voice also.....saka even Regine did not sustain dat B5....kinulot nya...ke Jona...paakyat..G5-A5-B5....parang ladder.....these two singers can reached that B5 in diff styles....but one things for sure both used Mix Registers......

I agree. For me, Jonalyn is the only one who could belt as great as Regine. The only thing that Jonalyn probably could not match are Regine's vocal riffs. But then Regine can't also do Jonalyn's whistle notes. Vocally, they're evenly matched. But I still give Regine more credit for being able to sing the way she does at her age
Love Regine... But the truth of the matter is JONALYN can be the country's PREMIER BELTER... She's exceptional, world class and most of all a REAL DIVA... We must praise JONALYN because she is the second singer in the PHIL who has done and reached the B5 note.. God Bless Jonalyn.. I know the Good LORD will also Bless Regine... So happy for her
but regine sings so flawless napakalinis si jonalyn malapit na din sa flawless kulang pa regine masarap pakinggan mga low notes and high notes kasi malinis si jonaly high notes malinis low notes need pa ng konting lambing

Queen Regine FOREVER! Look at Regine while Belting, nakaka smile pa.. Unlike Jonalyn. At ang kay Regine sustained, mas Powerful. Magaling si Jonalyn, pero wala parin talaga makakapantay sa galing ng nagiisang Reyna. :))
no one can match regine's voice..... not even jona..... i don't hate her.... but for me.... regine is regine.... and jona is jona.... and for me... regine is the best!

I agree si jonalyn LNG ang may kaya sa highest notes ni regine... Cy n ung closest,. Gusto ko ang range ng boses ni jonalyn pero di ganun ko kgusto ang quality ng boses ny... Prng may sipon cy kpg kumakanta cy kaya minsan mejo nag-ngongo cy Pakinggan .. Yun n LNG ang kelangn ny I-workout. At sk Isa pa sana bigyan cy ng break. Bata p cy, madami p cy maibubuga.. Hu knows bk mlampasan p ny ang nrting ni RVA.

I doubt na kakayanin ni Angeline yung mga ganito kataas na note sa pag belt! kasi minsan falsetto nalang gamit nia eh, pinagmalaki p nmn xa sa rated k n kaya ang ginagawa ni regine pero bakit hanggang ganun lang ang birit nia?
yung END lang ng birit ni jonalyn ang b5 ..as in split second lang..unlike kay regine na ilang seconds ung b5..napitik lang ni jonalyn yung b5.. though kaya niya ang bb6 na whistle.. pero unmatched parin talaga ang tatag ng CHEST voice ni regine...

Regine is still the QUEEN! Her B5 Bb5s are more controlled and more powerful. On the other hand, Jonalyn's B5 and Bb5 sounded a little "haggard", heady, and shaky. Yung A5 ni Regine diyan may nakakabilib pang vibrato, kay Jonalyn medyo shouty sa end, kulang pa ng control. Kumbaga, may conviction talaga ang high notes ng songbird. Pero ang galing ni jonalyn dahil na-hit niya rin, AMAZING siya! May K na siya makipagsabayan sa songbird. Siya na pinakamagaling na young diva!

I like Jonalyn but not this one. What a major turn off. Sana gumawa na lang kayo ng video na si Jonalyn lang- without Regine and without declaring that someone has already matched her! Jonalyn's note was poked. Clearly, hindi nya na match yung note ni Regine. What an INSULT to the QUEEN. NOBODY can touch her.
