She was the first ever grand champion from the singing competition Pinoy Pop Superstar in the Philipines and then won in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS in Hollywood where she bagged 5 GOLD MEDALS.
She is known for her soulful voice, extreme belting ability, and the ability to sing in the whistle register. She has cited Mariah Carey and Regine Velasquez as her greatest musical influence, along with Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.
She is currently in a group called La Diva with Aicelle Santos as alto, Maricris Garcia as mezzo-soprano and Viray as Soprano. She was also in a group called DECIBELLES with Kyla and Rachelle Ann Go. She had a recent concert with Frencheska Farr and Julie Ann San Jose entitled 'Beyond Limits'.
She is in contemporary with Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Charice Pempengco, Kyla, Angeline Quinto and Nina Girado.

Jonalyn Viray Knows to use her voice.. sa nakita ko she was a classically trained and,, she learned by itself to discover her own technique,, malinis kumanta.. to switch from middle voice to head , mix voice and also the whistle,,, sympre lahat laht my support ng chest voice, ,, para magign solid ang voice nya ,, shes has a strong lungs.. very gifted na babae sa vocal talent very humble person... YAN ang tunay na singer,,, lhat yan pinag hirapan nya... pinag aralan .. nya.. paano lahat kunin yan.. kag ang bagay na gustuhan ko sa kanya she know how to control her own instrument... in other words may dynamics.. at higit sa lahat,, magaling mag syncrnize ng voice nya sa kapwa singer,, di pasikat,,, kung mag pasikat man sya,,, yung sa time nya na sa kanya ang floor,,, . sa nakita ko sya ang dapat ang tawagin THE EXTRA ORDINARY DIVA ... versatile,, sya, she knows to approch kung classical ang knata or is that,,, pop ,, and etc... basta umiwas lang sya sa mga vices , smoke and alcholic brev,, ma maintain nya boses nya..... Nic Norman Tugaff i agree, most of filipina singers sings very tight, very shouty, very pushed. that differs jonalyn from those singers cause jonalyn knows how to used proper technique in singing.

Damn her head voice is perfectly smooth and beautiful!! And her belts is amazing and at first i didn't expect that she can reach a B5 note with mix chest and head voice coz she has a solid voice like charice!! Just wow!!

this girl really wows me, she can hit the hardest note effortlessly yet still good to your ears with so much soul and power. I would put her at the top next to queen regine. She is by far the best vocal of her generation, nobody could match her vocal acrobats. Just so bad that her mother network couldn't give her the proper exposure and projects.

***** I know what you mean and I see where your confusion is coming from. Just a bit trivia why...Filipinos by nature are brown skinned but because they were conquered by whites, they developed this colonial mentality that fair skinned is better. Filipinos do not like the sun; they bring an umbrella with them at all times. They do everything they can to look fair if they can financially afford it: glutathione, skin peeling, name it... There's no skin care lotion in the Philippines that doesn't say "with whitening ingredient" on it. A lot of famous celebrities have white fathers. It is very very hard to be noticed in the Philippine entertainment if you are not fair even if you have a talent because there's too many of you. If they are born naturally fair then good.. They cannot be really white that is why they will look like Chinese at times. Only Jaya, Lani Misalucha, Butuin Escalante, Charice, Nora Aunor are the only brown skinned singers there that are seriously recognized as a singer.
One thing I like about Jonalyn is that she keeps pushing herself as if without limits.

I have seen so many filipino singers sarah,regine,morrisete,charice etc. But from what i see filipino singers have nice tone and bad technique from this video jova beats any filipino singer i have seen so far her technique is great and is the first filipino singer that makes me go wow im dwfinetly going to look more from her
Sarah G and Jona really have a great tone for me among all filipino female singers too bad Sarah doesn’t focus on her technique idk why her coach doesn’t teach and correct her the proper way of singing. This year 2019 Sarah G is now aware of her tongue tension. I saw her performances on ASAP she doesn’t place her tongue too backwards unlike before but eveytime she belts still pushing all the notes!

sa 1st song, super smooth ang boses. sa 2nd song medio may sablay pag napoprolong na yung highest notes. sa 3rd song, super perfect ang boses. sa 4th song, may sablay na very obvious. you can actually hear it at 1:47. sa 5th song at 6th song, super perfect. sa 7th song, ONE OF THE MOST PERFECT VERSION nya na narinig ko. pinaghalong Mariah at Beyonce. sa 8th song super perfect. sa 9th song, perfect na sana, kaso nung magtuturn na yung boses nya into whistle at 3:21 biglang sumablay lang yung transition ng voice at obvious din yun at 3:28. sa 10th song, indeed perfect. 11th song super perfect whistle. 12th song very perfect. i like it. overall, Jonaly Viray is indeed NAKAKAKILABOT yung voice. super galing. nga lang hindi napapansin ng iba yung galing nya. mas maganda if she will even make more mark internationally (which is nangyari na sa kanya way back 2006 or 2007 with Brenana Espartinez). hands down for this girl.
Magaling naman talaga si Jonalyn, yung tipong kahit anong kanta, nabibigyan nya ng magandang rendition. Ang problema lang minsan eh sa sobrang taas ng boses nya , parang nasasapawan nya na yung ibang kasabayan nya kumanta just like sa La Diva. Kahit hindi naman siguro intentional, ganun na rin yung lumalabas. Pero anyways, magaling sya :P

She sang it in the original key which Toni braxton also hitted a D3 note. Jona is capable of F3 and lower I guess she just doesn't go down there often ( unless she has to with the song choice ) :D
