      What do you mean when you say you spooled yours on low speed? Does adding another master link make the chain more prone to break? Thank you.

    Thanks for the great review on this kit! I live in NYC and no one seems to care about a Sur-Ron with pegs on it, but if I wanted to ride on roads or trails outside the city I could see attention being drawn if it didnt have pedals. These really look like theyd do the trick if you ride trails as much as I do!

    Thanks.. just got my kaniwaba kit... good to know...I ordered just the 89mm arms pedals and brackets.. but they sent me the full kit on accident lol.. so I think I will just install the whole kit for compliance since they gave it to me... must be a sign to just do it full legit . Lol

      Take your time with the chain alightment. When you roll the rear wheel backwards and you feel/hear binding and popping, the chain is not aligned. A single pop here and there won’t cause any issues.

    Thanks for the vid! I'm contemplating about getting pedals instead of pegs for compliance reasons. What's your experience riding trails with pedals vs pegs? I'm coming from a dirt bike background. Can I ride over logs or rough rock sections with pedals? Or make steep hill climbs?

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As long as you’re not trying to pedal while going over obstacles, you’ll be fine. The bash will hit anything first as long as you keep the pedals level similar to riding a downhill bike. Hill climbs are also not an issue.

  • @xch3no2
    @xch3no2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use a short, steel straight-edge laid sprocket-to-sprocket to ensure alignment.
    I think the pedal-shaft to jack-shaft distance should be shortened slightly, a minor re-design, that would fix the chain tension problems. A more sophisticated design would have some adjustment, it's not too hard to mount the shaft bearings in some index-calibrated eccentrics.

    In the event of a tip-over, bent cranks would be preferable to bent or broken frame mount holes. I got the 100mm unicycle cranks shown in this video they are steel and probably wont bend. Is Sur Ron frame damage common from crashing with a pedal kit? please advise

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think your frame would be fine. If the crank doesn’t bend, I imagine the pedal spindle will.

    Very detailed explanation of installing, so thanks. But how about actually USING the pedals? This review is theoretical, how about adding showing HOW well, or not these work?

    • @len9483
      @len9483 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pedals don’t work very well. They are geared so low you can pedal a thousand strokes and go about a 1/2 city block at best. As everyone knows, they are only for legal compliance.

    Did you notice ant top end speed loss when you installed the "power kit" portion of this set up?

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the drag from the chain and freewheel is so minimal, you'd probably lose top speed from a misaligned caliper or a bent rotor before that.

  • @happygil4698
    @happygil4698 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    how about different sprocket sizes so you could actually get the pedals to work "reasonably" instead of just for show?

    I don't even own a sur-ron bike, but interested in one. Would have to buy the pedal kit to not get pulled over or get the bike confiscated. My question is, why is there not a larger chain ring on the pedal axle? Cant really see but I guess the chain would get too close to the motor? With a larger chain ring you could pedal at reasonable speed :)

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a clearance issue and the fact that the Sur Ron wasn’t really designed to be pedaled. There is a 25T rear sprocket that people can use with the OEM pedal kit, but you have to keep it in the limp 10kph/6mph mode to avoid burning out the motor.

    hi i have a question i too live in socal and ride and e bike, i have been planning to make some money and get a surron, i am 13 i heard by adding petals to the sur ron it makes it “street legal” or at least to the point where you can tell police it’s not illegal is that true?

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s technically street legal as is in eco mode. Doesn’t exceed 30mph. Motorized bicycles don’t need operational pedals. Riding on trails and bike paths is where you need pedals. If you want to be safe, you can run a 64T sprocket. Even in sport mode it won’t go past 30 and will have incredible torque and climbing power.

    That kick stand design is trash it just comes lose no matter what and kickstand swings down on large bumps . Just take it off and have no kickstand

    • @skyungjae
      @skyungjae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven’t had any kickstand issues. Some people tie a piece of tube around the swing arm and stretch it over the kickstand so it doesn’t drop down over rough terrain.
