As for why Hank didn't go after being warned, he had to have known that if people were coming to kill him, they were certainly going to try again if he just left. This was the one time he'd know when they were coming.

Also, him calling his best bud calling out "the prank" shows the mentality. We as viewers see the broad spectrum. But in Hank's world, who is going to set up an assassination on him? Jesse and his meth head friends? The story we're given, I can easily see Hank hearing the threat, and immediately thinking of cop buddies pranking him. Its not like he was unresponsive to the threat. He was already unhinged, and this new threat wasn't exactly something he should see coming.

@@David-ru8tc Plus, though probably not very likely, the call itself could be part of the plot meant to get him to drive for the exit and be ambushed there.
As Hank appeared to initially think it to be a prank, it makes sense to wait out the minute and see if anything happens and respond accordingly if needed.

The centerpiece of this episode is obviously the shootout, but my personal favourite part is easily Jesse's speech at 19:40. That shit is incredible. One of Aaron Paul's best performances, and one of the greatest on-screen monologues ever. Gives me chills every time.

Yes, Jessie (A. Paul) has a few scenes in the show that are legendary. The one where he is in the drug house after Jane dies is so good, I got teary-eyed the first time I watched, and everytime I'm alone watching it.
P.S. There is a table read of Breaking Bad (I believe it's called Blood Money) and is a must watch). It shows just how professional, talented, and great of an actor Aaron Paul truly is! I will edit this if I find out it was a different episode. Of course "It's a Primate" (until he has watched the episode) cannot watch the table read video. Just checked, and it is that episode👍. Episodes like this is why I love Jesse and why I love Aaron Paul. The emotion; watching him get beat up like that, physically and emotionally, and actually tell Walt about himself because he berates and belittles Jesse since he knows Jesse needs people. And then Walt admitting that Jesse's cook is good. I know he was trying to convince/manipulate him by telling him what he needed to hear, but it's true...he was mad because Jesse did a good cook without him.

I think the reason why Hank didn't just leave was because he was already pranked called the episode before, so of course he's going to be skeptical. Well it wasn't just manipulating him at that point he knew everything Jesse said was true except he did care for him as a nephew in his own way and he felt bad and finally admitted that it was good because Jesse did do it right this time and was so proud of himself for applying himself the way Walt always told him to but instead of being proud of Jesse he got Jealous and competitive plus it was a bad day for Walt but that really hurt Jesse he wants him of all people to be proud of him and Jesse has been going through a lot too and wanted to finally do it right because he thinks this is all he can do so he better be really good at it and he has accepted he is the bad guy so he is trying to embrace it since he thinks that is all he is that's why his attitude changes a bit after this especially after Walt did him wrong telling him that Gus was just using him to get Walt to cook that really hurt him too. So Walter told him the truth about his cook in hopes that would work on him he saw how bad cutting him down hurt him and realized that his opinion matters that much to Jesse so a compliment should work but it was the truth

  • @Frostbite08

Hank didn't stay because he was afraid of leading the twins somewhere. He stayed because he had a panic attack. To everyone else in the comments who are saying stuff about him "choosing to stay" for whatever reason, go back and listen to his speech. He literally says he's been freezing under pressure.

    • @hbk314
      @hbk314 ปีที่แล้ว +4

That doesn't mean that's what happened here. The panic attacks we've seen have also been accompanied by visual/camera effects, and that didn't happen in this scene.
His initial thought is that it's a prank. Even if it's not, that call could be meant to get him to walk/drive into a trap. The most logical course is to do what he did: be hyper-vigilant and respond to any threat. If nothing happens, he deems it a prank and leaves.

I think the fact that Walt at this point doing things that hurts hank or throws him off of himself any means necessary, stems from him trying to hide his tracks. I think walt also had no problem getting rid of gale because he didn't want someone around who could be considered an equal or close to it. Walt gave gale some nasty looks when gale showed that he didn't need walt's say-so to prep for the cook and shut down jesse when he proved he didn't need walt at all to cook. I think his past experiences with getting cut from grey matter made walt obsessed with having something that made him, and him alone, special. He doesn't want a repeat of someone else taking his work and making him obsolete like elliot and Gretchen did to him so he became prideful and nasty to anyone who seems they can match up to him.

Have to admit, as pissed as I was at Hank for assaulting Jesse, I actually have a lot of respect for Hank immediately for owning up to what he did, took responsibility for it. Hank didn’t throw Jesse under the bus to save his own skin, like a lot of cops probably would.
It reminds me of how Jesse gave Walt the “self-acceptance” speech, about accepting who you are. Jesse even saying “I’m the bad guy.” This was that moment for Hank, starting to realize that despite his goal, who he’s trying to get, he was starting to become the bad guy himself.
This was that moment for Hank, realizing he was starting to go down the wrong path. As bad as what Hank did to Jesse was, it basically was his moment of self-reflection, where he realized he was going down a path similar to the very people he was hunting down.
That comparison you made with Walt’s different partnerships with Gale and Jesse actually reminded me of something! While it’s true Walt gets along a lot better with Gale, and they have similar interests, had a better relationship with him, Gale is actually more similar to Jesse than Walt realizes!
Jesse and Gale’s personalities and interests are quite different, but they actually have more in common that they’d expect! They both try their hardest to please the people they look up to, and are loyal towards, and they have other people’s best interests in mind! For all of Jesse’s struggles, mistakes, and flaws, even if he tries to focus on himself, he actually often has other people’s best interests and well-beings ahead of his own, and it’s especially more prominent as the show continues.
When it comes to a profession/occupation, Gale is like Walt. But as a human being, like core values, Gale is actually more like Jesse. It becomes more clear as the show progresses.

I really like how you were screaming GO!!! GO!!! GO!!! Which would make sense to the average person, especially someone like me.
However there are 2 very good.reasons Hank did not immediately drive away.
First, he doesnt run, and still thought he had his gun until literally the last moment when he reaches for it, and realizes it's not there.
Second and most importantly IMO, even if he was to flea, how would he know if it really was serious or not. He would be looking over his shoulder and paranoid all the time, even in bed at night.
I'm assuming he had a feeling it was serious, and wanted to know who they were. Plus he didn't have a clue it was going to be the psychotic, and deadly twins wearing body armour.
    Anyways, another great reaction 💯👍👍👍!
P.S. hoping you go to the 2 episode at a time format on youtube soon. I've watched several dozen different Breaking Bad reactions (entire series) and along with the Sopranos and Ozark, are best watching 2 at a time. I honestly believe you will get more views and subs that way as well.

Think it's way more cynical than you suggest XD, Gus most likely wanted a shootout to let the DEA take out the cartels

I mean, as a viewer it's easy to say Hank should've just left. But think about it. He's traumatized after El Paso, he's coming off of this assault on Jesse and being suspended from his job. And suddenly he gets a weird call. Ofc he first thinks it's some sort of gag. But then the panic kicks in and he doesn't know what to do really. Only when the first twin shoots the survival instinct finally kicks in.
I guess all I wanted to say is that Hank's behaviour in that scene is 100% believable.
Anyway, great reactions. You were so invested, great to watch it haha. And a lot more such reactions till the end of the show, cause for me this episode is roughly when the show went from being great to being absolutely freaking amazing.

Tbf Walt told Gus he knew it was him because he wanted a shootout. I honestly thought it was Mike trying to be a good guy & look out for Walt’s family, but I’ve just reached the end of S3 & Mike’s still loyal to Gus so far.

Tbf Walt did say like 2 episodes later it was Gus and Gus knew about the phone call when boasting to Hector. They make it clear that he had something to do with it.

Captions should read “family is everything.“ “Todo“ can mean “all“ or “everything.“ In this case, the subtext is “everything.“
