The S&M Bodyguard 2.0 comes in 2 versions: thumb safety (TS) and no thumb safety (NTS). Both versions have a trigger safety.
Lucked into mine a couple days after launch. Absolutely love it. So much better than the original and the LCP series. Shoots as good as my 365/380 with a 1/3 off the weight.
Just bought a BG 2.0 TS a few days ago. Fun gun. Shoots nicely. I'm going to love it. Only have a couple hundred rounds through it at this point. So far just a 100 or so rounds of Blazer 95 gr FMJ and 20 Hornaday Hydra Shok. I suppose not really enough of either to really address feed reliability BUT I had no feed problems thus far. I've had a Shield Plus for over a year and have been quite happy with it but, for me, I did not carry it much because it is still too big for my body and my clothes. I rarely felt comfortable carrying it much of the time because of printing. That's why I bought the BG 2.0. I do love the size. I have a sticky SM2 and the BG 2.0 fits very unobtrusively into my blue jean pants. I am much more comfortable carrying it most of the time.
I've had had two minor issues that I have been able to remedy. As many people have said, the gun, being new, takes a bit more effort to rack than my shield plus and my thumb safety is much tougher to manipulate than on my Shield Plus. Both issues may resolve with time I think (hope). Issue #1: I have found that with the safety 'on', I was not initially able to lock the slide back because the slide was, I believe, binding a bit on the safety mechanism. I have found that if I put some upward pull on the slide with I pull it back, it will pass over the bump and allow me to lock it back. At my range, someone also showed me that if I have the safety 'off', that I can lock the slide easily (as with my Shield Plus). Issue #2: After loading just 50 or so rounds through the 10 round mag AND the 12 round mag, I found I could not load more than two bullets and even with my my loader device, I could not get past two bullets in either mag. I discovered that the problem in both instances was that the orange followers on the front edges, the down side points of the follower were engaging the first set of round observation holes and hanging up the path of the follower. I disassembled the magazine and rounded the points a bit and back beveled them a bit. I removed a very small amount of material for both. It worked well. No more problems in maxing out the mags to capacity in that regard.
Very useful and insightful take, good info and thank you.
You are absolutely correct on the magazine issue. In my case with loading the magazine, after the first 3 rounds by hand I can use a magazine loader.
You can get the Bodyguard 2.0 with a thumb safety or without a thumb safety. Mine has a thumb safety because that was all they had in the store and I really wanted one. But the safety is so small, I can leave it off and not think about it. But they are selling both options. It just appears some stores are getting only one or the other.
Good info, I grabbed the only one available to me.
The trigger pull on the original isn’t awful at all. Particularly since it’s an up close get off me, pocket gun. What the original does have is double strike capability, which I like. I also have no problem sliding the original model in my pocket with no fear of it going off with something getting in the trigger guard. This new one has a very light trigger.
I might still get one. I have a bunch of M&P pistols. But I’d get the safety version.
@@kbm-zw5jd I had the original. I got rid of it. The trigger pull isn't awful, but it isn't great either.
I've got 640 rounds no light strikes on my bg2.0. I think double strike is a moot point now since defense ammo is such high quality. Heck I think I've only seen one light strike in the ten years I've been shooting.
And as far as fear of going off, buy a quality kydex holster (whether pocket or IWB) and learn how to properly holster and the light trigger isn't a worry.
Yeah, I said trying to get the last round in those mags made me feel like a wimp! 😂😂😂
Nice review! I have a 380 which i like that is pretty tame in snappiness due to it being an all steel pistol. Thats what keeps it from being an ed. Pistol. I will have to consider bodyguard 2.0 for a lighter edc replacement.
I got mine at Tallahassee Gun Show. It's a masterpiece.
Good review
My front sight wasn't centered, and like you, mine shoots left. I haven't drifted it yet.
