My all time favourite Queen track. Freddie goes places other songwriters/singers just can't.. even nearly 50 years after first hearing it I'm staggered at the inventiveness displayed here. There isn't anything else like this save for Love Of My Life but for me You Take My Breath Away is a whole other level. To me this is the Queen most casual listeners don't know about... a true deep cut if there ever was one.
Stunning work of art. I love both versions… difficult to decide which is more… more… words fail me 😂 Thanks for commenting on how this was done. Nothing digital no auto tune back then just a great composer with unique artistic abilities and a wonderful imagination.
Having the vision for laying out that track blows my mind. It was in Freddie's blood to do that in the Studio. But done LIVE - the simplicity stuns. He excelled either way and loved both for different reasons.
A great song from a great album. I still feel so lucky to have been a teen in the 70's when great bands like Queen were the norm not the exception. Bands then were incredibly talented.
Oooh yes, this is my favourite ballard of all time. Many reactors just do the live version, which is a shame 'coz they miss those incredible harmonies. Brian has said that when recording the opening harmonies, Freddie was so pitch perfect, he would phase with himself. Love of my life is still best live ballard tho.
You Take My Breath Away - by Mercury John Deacon: Bass Brian May: Electric guitar Freddie Mercury: Piano, lead and backing vocals Roger Taylor: Percussion
Absolutely stunning! I never tire of hearing. That and Love of My Life are two of the most beautiful songs that he did, IMO. Thank you for all the reactions to the songs.
thanks, Justin.. so beautiful.. and such deliberate "breaths"... meant to be heard.. (and the dynamics are fantastic, of course...) appreciate your reaction... p.s. straight into Brian's "Long Away" which is unique and beautiful, as well...
Beautiful song and mix. May praised Mercury's ability to sing repeating parts exactly as the previous track, and said to a point where they 'phased', anyone know what phased means re vocals?
"Phasing in audio refers to a process where two signals that are similar but not identical are combined, leading to various degrees of constructive and destructive interference. This effect is often heard as a sweeping, whooshing, or swirling sound". from Chat GPT
In terms of the vocals, phasing basically means, if the sound wave of the track you're adding is the exact opposite form of an existing track, they will cancel each other out and erase each other.
Love at first listen all those years ago. :) I don't care if Freddy is being a drama queen in this one at all as it plays right on the heart. I love echoey things. A superb high point of a studio produced song. Another thing to point out is the use of silence and space and slight delays here or there on expectations and fullfillment... Freddy nailed it with this one IMO.
This is one of my favourite Queen tracks - but I prefer the live version. I call it the "stalking" song - if you really listen it's quite dark and obsessive. Still a beautiful beautiful song though.
You keep saying "Did you hear the ghost' on alot of Queen tracks ..... don't you think that it was done deliberately? Queen were probably the most intellectual band that ever existed! Maybe that 'ghost' layer was done deliberately....🤔

Good comparison. That's why white and black. The two albums paying homage to the Marx Brothers.
Imo freddies greatest vocal performance
One of the most beautiful songs ever written by Freddie. 🌿🍃
He penned this beauty for then boyfriend, David Minns. 💚💚
Not only are the melody and the production impressive, but the lyrics are beautiful. You can tell that Freddie was deeply in love. Nice reaction!

thank you for your reaction. and yes, Freddie's debut of this live at Hyde Park is just gorgeous. Simple, heart-felt, beautiful song. Freddie in love.

Beautiful vocal harmonies.

You made my day today thanks! Nice to hear this on the way to work! Great reaction to a beautiful song!

Hey Justin, I just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoy your journey through Queen's catalogue. It's nice, nice. Very nice.

Sacred song 🎵 ❤️
A very beautiful song. Great reaction.
@3:19 you asked.... "Did you hear the ghost?".... We heard what Queen wanted us to hear! #respect!

Hey, Justin.. you must be "live" to like the comment so fast.. thanks.. I look forward to more from you...
Perfect
Oh My G Love this Song....Thank You.
When I was a teenager, I quoted parts of this lyrics to a girl ... got my first kiss as a reward! :) *yeah
Decades ago, but still in my memory! ♥
Lucky dawg!
Bass and guitar were both used here, according to Wiki…possibly Deacy amp also…I LOVE this so much..Thanks for the great reaction❤
this is a Gem! It shouldve gotten more attention!
Justin,if you were producing a Queen record, what would you try to achieve with a singer like Freddie?
Beautiful song and mix.

Hey Teach... Good way of explaining dubbing in that way. That was to cool of a sound.😂
This is such a pretty song, I really love it. Now days triple tracking is a lot easier with the technology.
Speechless. I got nothing....

Freddy does all the vocals in this one
I love the Hyde Park version, but it's fun to hear what it became when it grew up. 😊
Beautiful ❤️💙💛
I prefer the live version, though the harmonies are fabulous here.
There are some lovely alternative melodic lines I prefer in the live version for sure..

I enjoyed that reaction. would you consider reacting to 'One Year of Love'. Written by John Deacon for the film Highlander ?
Great song, but i love it performed live at hyde park alot better

They were perfectionists, always! Of course it was done deliberately!
Beautiful lyrics but boring melody
Uh, it's a ballad...
