      Tough is a good Feat to have, even for those with d10 Hit Dice and even for a Barbarian. It's definitely useful for Wizards & Sorcerers whom don't get to even wear Light Armor, outside of MC &/or Feat. Actor is decent on almost anyone but it's especially potent on Warlocks and Changelings in particular (especially a Changeling Warlock) because they have features which work with the Feat instead of being redundant. It's very strong in espionage campaigns in the hands of a skilled player because you are using pure skill to be anyone you want which means you could, theoretically, convince a high level cleric in an anti-magic field that you are a depowered avatar of their deity in dire need of aid. The first feat i took in my first DnD character was Inspiring Leader. I remember writing paragraphs of inspiring speeches to use it. My first speech was received very well. But next session when i was about to use it again, the DM cut me off and said “dude are you really gona waste people time with speeches?”. I never took that feat again
    And no, i was making sure that speeches wouldnt take too long. They took like 4 minutes. I remember that after my first speech the other players clapped and cheered me for it as they liked it very much. But the DM was kinda a guy that only interested in moving the game forward. He wouldnt give players much room for roleplay or goof around. As this was my first DnD game ever, i couldnt really do much then obey the DM basically.
    We were playing Rise of Tiamat btw and my character was a Oath of Conquest Dwarf Paladin. Halfway through the game, he purposefully killed my character saying that “if you cant do a proper dwarf/scottish accent then dont bother playing as a dwarf”. Yeah he was a massive dick...

    Yo Inspiring Leader is actually really good. You can do it at the end of a Short or Long Rest and nowhere does it say you need to stay still to give the speech, so you can apply it while looting or travelling. The amount of Temp HP might not seem high, but if you're reapplying it throughout an adventuring day the number of free Hit Points adds up.
    Say you're a level 12 Bard with a +5 CHA mod and you're using it on 4-person party. That's 68hp, effectively a whole extra person's worth of hit points to chew through in a fight. You getting your two expected Short Rests per day? 68 more HP every time, for a total of 204 extra hp per adventuring day. At the very least it blows Tough out of the water.

      Good math!

      @Altyrell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It should be noted/clarified that in the above example it would be 17 Temp HP per person not 68 total that all 4 gets to use.
      And no, it doesn't blow Tough out of the water because Tough affects the actual HP adding a total of 40 HP by level 20. 2x the level when you take it & an additional +2 per level after. So if you take it at Level 4, you gain +8 HP that you DON'T have to roll for & +2 HP per level after that you don't, again, have to roll for. Even if you take it last at Level 18, you'll gain an extra +36 HP (that you don't end up having to roll for), then +2 HP at Levels 19 & 20.
      So if you have a 10 Con [........... why?] & you take it at Level 4, you'll be getting 1dHD + 8 HP [min 9 HP - Max depends on Class] & then at each Level after you'll be getting 1dHD + 2 HP [min 3 HP - Max depends on Class] (Never dump-stat Con...... ever...... never ever have your Con be your dump-stat).

      So tough basically doesn't give you more effective hp, while reducing your Con stat by 1.
      Inspiring leader though most likely gives you over 100 extra hp each day, and some 500 more spread over other creatures. It absolutely decimates Tough as well as probably every other feat in the game.

    • @MrSnom-pd7gx
      @MrSnom-pd7gx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@DutchDread Tough doesn't reduce your Constitution by one though. It's just a bonus. At level 20, you have 40 more max HP than if you never took the feat. And yes, Inspiring Leader can technically give you over 100 extra temp hp per day, so long as you are max level with a 20 in Charisma to get the max temp hp (25), lose that temp hp, take another short rest, use the feat again, lose the hp again, take yet another short rest, and then keep repeating that cycle. Temp HP doesn't stack, remember? So in between each short rest, you have an extra 25 in HP, which is just a bit over half of Tough's increase.

The party de facto wastes 10 minutes of every hour, searching a 10’x10’ area takes ten minutes, you need food and water and sleep, etc. Then hustling through a dungeon makes sense, but none of that structure exists in 5e by default.

      Aranor this is true. However, 5e does little in the way of pointing a DM towards how and why to utilize such rules, in addition to wandering monsters and other dangerous time pressures. The 5e default encumbrance rules let you bring a pile of torches and a larder full of food anyway. Unlimited-use light generating cantrips and most races having darkvision skirts around most of the visibility issues in a dungeon anyway. Dungeon exploration rules used to be a spelled-out mechanical cycle that drove the party’s expedition. That explicit structure does not exist in 5e core rules.

      @SaviorOfNirn Yep, & if by chance you're already getting Temp HP from something else, you'll have to choose. Which means, (as an example) if you're a Warlock using Armor of Agathys, you'll have to choose between AoA & the Inspiring Leader Temp HP, and if you choose the IL's Temp HP then you'll lose AoA in its entirety because the Cold Damage part of AoA is tied to the Temp HP from AoA.

    Fellas, I'm tellin' ya. KEEN MIND + Illusionist wizard. You remember everything you've seen or heard in the last 30 days. You can flip through a book just making sure to glance at every page. Later, you conjure an illusion of the book and read it at your leisure. You can make illusion perfectly replicating what you saw in a dream or what you saw while looking through your familiars eyes. My character had a morning routine where they would look through the pages of several illusory books every morning and he effectively had a mind library of 300 books of a variety of subjects with him at all times. All he had to do to copy spells was glance at the formula in another spellbook or scroll, then illusion a copy of it to transcribe. Most recently our party heard maddening screams within the under dark that can madden and disable people. Guess who made their CON save and can perfectly replicate those screams with illusions at their own leisure? That's right folks KEEN MIND is one of the most underrated feats if you think creatively.
