  • Nobody goes about their day planning to get into a street fight. Well, maybe some people do. But with the way the streets are unsafe, it is better to be prepared for a street fight even though you might not go looking for one. Most times, when faced with a fight on the streets, the best thing is to just walk away. But let's be honest, there are some situations in which walking away won't be easy. You may need to defend yourself or others around you.

Wing Chun is in my humble opinion the absolute best all around combat martial art. Unfortunately many who practice and or teach Wing Chun, do so improperly as in they do not teach the correct angles and or they do not teach the proper application of force both of wich are absolutely integral in the proper use of Wing Chun. It is no fault of the martial art that the people practicing it are doing so incorrectly.

    As someone that practice wingchun
I never said that wingchun can't be used, but 1 year learning boxing will more benefit you to be in the fight situation
Wingchun is a complex system, lot of theory and required the change of your body mechanic
Meanwhile boxing only have 4 type punches and its variation and the stance is more easy to use than wingchun
Wingchun very effective in street fight against untrained opponent, but if your opponent know how to box or muaythai, forget about it

As many of us know, all martial arts have their pluses and minuses. There is no martial art that is the perfect, but those who are (selling) a particular martial art quite often will speak differently. One of the best ways to increase one's abilities, is to train for many years so the martial artist will be able to move properly, in a fight scenario, without thinking -- which is akin to driving a car after much experience. Being competent, unconscously is the goal to many things in life. Lastly, the right instructor cannot be underrated.

Doubt you've ever been in a street fight, not sure how those go down in china but over here it's brutal. Forget wing chun and kung fu, go learn boxing wrestling bjj judo and tkd for kicks. People are way stronger here in the west, faster, more used to actual combat. Hope you never have to fight but prep the right way. Chinese martial arts is not real in actual fighting.

Wing Chun is especially beneficial in really close combat (like a 1-1.5 foot distance between you and your opponent). Some other martial arts styles instead prefer a greater distance between you and your opponent so it’s interesting to see Wing Chun compare to other martial arts styles especially in that really close combat situation.

I can speak from experience that I have a genuine teacher who won’t tolerate nonsense and so teaches stuff that could work for you. I personally couldn’t make it work in sparring but with modified techniques I made it work

Wing Chun is amazing for strictly self-defense situations. Use it quickly, and end the fight quickly. However, if you go the distance and the fight lasts too long, Wing Chun tech starts losing effectiveness. Train to end the fight as soon as possible with it, and you are golden.

You realize those are rigged matches against folks who don't even use actual Wing Chun don't you?
I'm not even a WC practitioner and it's obvious. I know actual Wing Chun fighters so I can tell by the stance the fakes take.
I've seen MMA fighters avoid actual Wing Chun instructors even in Chicago back in the day.
I've even offered MMA fanboys opportunities to fight them on my other TH-cam channel.
No takers in over 7 years.
      Why?
Because the MMA fighters cherry pick who they go against specifically to push the dummy narrative you lapped up. Meaning they only take rigged fights. Hell Izzo had an open challenge for any MMA fighter and had no takers. He's an ex Chicago cop who does Wing Chun and used to be a wrestler like me.
      As for me
I'm an ambidextrous person whose trained in Silat and Kali primarily. I've also learned Combat Hapkido.
40 years in and I've taught military and law enforcement.
Basically my opinion of MMA is slightly lower than your opinion on Wing Chun.

@darthbiker2311 That chinese mma guy "Xu Xiaodong" goes around the country fighting these so called martial arts masters, and its a real eye opener.
The ccp has made his life a nightmare, for exposing them all as fakes. Its hilarious how they run protection for them too, and punish him for winning and for promoting mma. Even preventing him from getting to fights with their social credit score.
All this kung fu stuff is bs. Its meant to be used against other similar forms. But when an mma figher gets involved.. he puts them all to sleep.
And theres no cherry picking fighters for that guy.
Look into him, if you want your view of such things shattered.

There is really no blocks in wing chun; you deflect attacks, and hit your opponent at the same time. The shortest distance to your opponent is from your center, so regardless of your opponent's speed, you can always get to him faster; basically you cannot be out-speed. The balance is important, but what wing chun really emphasizes on, is your structure, thus with the right structure using your center, you can move the opponent. The power of your hits comes from a relaxed state, and your elbow utilizing your structure. You would learn sensitivity, where you feel your way around the opponent by the direction of his energy. You would also learn turning and very specific footwork to redirect that energy and launch attacks. The bottom line is that wing chun is really great for self defense.

Egy harcművészet mennyire alkalmazható az utcán, azt elsősorban nem a harcművészet stílusa dönti el. Egy ember akkor használhat sikeresen egy harcművészetet az utcán, ha:
    1. Jól elsajátítja az adott harcművészet technikáit. Készségszinten magává teszi ezeket a technikákat, és jól beépülnek a mozdulataiba.

Sad fact: No WC is not efficient for street fight. Too many fatal faults. Head and neck are not protected, hence easy for a KO. Laughable foot work. Weapon delivery not bio mechanically efficient. WC practitioners woul benefit much from adopting boxing guard, High guard with chin tucked in,

in car rides when i was little my dad would like tease me by lightly hitting me as if he were my opponent, i would go to hit him and he would guide my blow away from him and strike back, than i copied him and was now able to redirect incoming blows at the age of 7. he would also roll his wrists when i hit him and it would fuck up my hit. he did this all the time in car rides for years and now i realise what he was teaching me on some Mr. Miyagi type shit. i got into a fight and was doing that wing chun bullshit and was attacking in between intervals where my opponent was disabled to defend. its dope how quick i won that fight hahaha.

You cant use wingchun for combat..that is only avail in movies. Real combat has no style, use power in strike and defense such as MMA and kickboxing

don't forget that in real combat, there are often two or three agressors even more, in this case, MMA is not more usefull! If you are ground fighting with an agressor, his friend(s) will come to kick your face or put a stab in the back! You are talking about real combat but nowadays, if you face only one agressor with no weapons, no knive, no pepper spray or anything, then you are lucky! That's why I don't argue anymore about which martial art is effective for real combat

Wing Chun is effective against those who have never been in a fight before.
Wing Chun lacks footwork, and parrying.

Wing Chun is very impressive and incredible just like karate and kung fu I know it could be useful in street fight when you use it correctly I just wish I could have had kept up with my karate class so I can try to become a better fighter and a strong person this technique is very useful in street fighte on your learning how to defend yourself it's all about the balance in the right moves especially when someone has a gun is how you use it that counts and how you use it that could save a life in your own 🥋☯️🙏😌🙏☯️🥋

Impressiveness doesn't win real fights. Wing Chun like karate and kung fu will never work in a real situation. I did Goju Ryu karate for 12 years, karate like most martial arts teaches useless katas and point sparring. On the street people don't fight for points they fight to destroy and to win. I am also an ex-MMA fighter and can say it's the closest thing to a real fight as I have used it several times in a real situation. Most fights end on the ground so it helps to know both stand up and grappling. MMA I did for 9 yrs. Currently studying BJJ even that is better than Kung Fu,Karate, Wing Chun etc. My MMA didn't have Jujitsu as some schools will teach, instead mine had Submission Wrestling combined with boxing and muay thai kickboxing of course.
