After careful analysis I was able to come up with a foolproof list of criteria detailing how to win the Crunchyroll anime awards:
- Be a shonen.
That's literally it.
There's actually three - 1. Be owned by Sony 2 - Be licensed by Sony 3 - License the soundtrack/game rights to Sony.
- Be the most popular anime this year by far

Though the development in JJK was pretty surface level. It did have examples of Gojo developing as a character. Learning about what he actually valued after almost dying. I liked it better than Vinland but I am a non violence hater.

Hell's Paradise wasn't even hated, it was just ignored. There were multiple categories that it had an extremely strong chance in and some it probably should have won, but even Garnt in this video doesn't mention it once lol

It’s hard to argue that it didn’t deserve it or at least got second place for it
For example best character design. This award goes to the artist not the anime. Plus it’s about how well they translated the manga designs into anime. Which- I’ll be honest. 90% of anime’s do an….okay job of this. But JJK definitely does pretty good.
Best opening….honestly I personally didn’t like it very much but best opening is 10000% a popularity contest and the JJK opening was blasted literally everywhere for its entire run so….not even an argument that anything else was close
Best director….again- no argument that anyone else deserved it. And again- another award that isn’t specifically for JJK. ITS FOR THE DIRECTOR

Actually, the JJK Anime Twitter that accepted the awards said that JJK S2 was counted to the end of September. So that included the parts of Shibuya for Gojo for example. So I guess that's why they used some Shibuya imagery for this too.

@@ChemyNoSurfea It's not just that. They actually put the Hidden Inventory poster on the initial announcement of all the nominees (You can still check it out on their website if you want). But then randomly changed some of them to Shibuya the night when voting officially began. Very confusing.
If you wanna feel sad, just remember that only the first 5 episodes of JJK season 2 qualified for this award.
The rest of the season qualifies for Anime Awards 2025 so we already know who wins next year.

2:20 bruh gojo had ONE good VA moment in this arc and that was the "Is that So?" scream to toji.
Literally every other line he's said in the series is delivered just as well as any other VA there.
In fact Eren's VA is goated. The amount of emotion he's able to put into his words CONSISTENTLY is just insane.
Eren's VA was great but defenitely not season 2 or season 3 level...
Even in JJK, I think Yuji's VA did a better job. His "I'm you" speech was chilling. How hauntingly calm he was, how his breath could be heard and you could tell he was tired combined into my favourite performance. If it's true that Shibuya didn't count then I feel bad for all the other anime

I really wish Vinland Saga won. My Wife HATES anime, but this anime got her back into it after 6 years of not watching anything I tried to show her. The way the characters connect with people is unlike anything I've watched before. I really hope a new season comes out so they have a chance to win this award

I think the main reason why JJK won so many awards is because people thought the award included the entire S2 and not just the first 5 episodes. It's gonna be really funny to see JJK again in the next year's awards.
Something to consider is that Gojo is the protagonist for the Star Child arc; hardly a "side character". Mob Psycho is still peak.

I've saved Mob S3 back and I can't fucking wait to watch it. Literally blew through the first two seasons. There's so many cool shows to watch so I've got... Spy x Family, Demon Slayer, Gundam Zeta, 86 season 2, Psycho-Pass S2, Vinland Saga, Frieren S1, Dead Mount Death Play S1, and A Place Further than the Universe that I'm currently watching all together with another 20 plus Animes and countless other shows I'm still finishing. Most days I'm have serious trouble figuring out what to watch! xDDD Thanks for all the quality show recommendations. You've really helped me sort out the shows I'd most want to see :D

There where a ton of good openings this year but I honestly think "Where Our Blue Is" deserved it's award. The song is a banger and the cinematography is used to characterize the cast in a way that the anime doesn't have time for. I haven't seen this type of story telling device used anywhere else.
Dunno if anyone else had this same issue, but to me, watching this awards show, more than any previous ones, felt like I was watching a pissing contest between fandoms more than an actual award show.

Looking back at Best Director. I also picked Shota Goshozono but in all honesty he did what everyone expected from him. We had our hopes up so high for JJK every single time and he had to deliver (Which is impressive and a good thing).
But honestly I should've gone with Keiichiro Saito.
He's pretty new in the main director role and so far has gone above and beyond in his works. Not only did he deliver on Bocchi but he far surpassed everyone's expectations on the show making it from a good anime to a memorable great anime. He is also the main director for Frieren where we can see his hard work and soul also shine through every single scene.
Knowing how new he is to the this role in specific (He has had a lot of previous experience) I can't help but admire him. He brought us Bocchi and Frieren and both have delivered more than any of us could've asked for in their respective genre.

I really think some categories should be purely jury votes. Like sure, anime of year and best characters of various categories and best anime of specific genre should have audience voting. But stuff like best cinematography, best art design, stuff like that, the average anime viewer does not really care to understand what that even means, and so they just vote for their favorite show

And people say all sorts of things about whether the first few eps of shibuya arc counted, but realistically thinking, it really shouldn't, its an ongoing anime, why wasn't Frieren there then? It alread had more than 15 eps at least, fully peak and easily would've snatched 3-4 awards. Imo jjk shouldn't even be nominated with a 5 episode long concluded arc, and an ongoing season on top of that in the first place, but I guess I get why HI would since that part at least finished, and was a completely different timeline from the rest of the seasons. But then back to my original comment 😂😅
The new season of Jujutsu Kaisen was so unbelievably peak it only needed 5 episodes to win anime of the year. We're witnessing a modern classic on the level of Attack on Titan here.

Hello Gigguk, I doubt you will get a chance to read this but on the off chance you do I wanted to say thank you. I've been going through the hardest time in my life for the past several months. Last year I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma and have been receiving chemo treatment for it. I'm almost done with all my treatments and I hope to some day soon visit Japan if I can afford it. I wanted to thank you because you were the reason that I got into anime and eventually wanting to visit Japan. Keep up the great content, (my favorite were your anime in minutes videos) and thank you again.

I cant understand how people overlook Chainsaw Man's direction. I ve never seen an anime with so high quality and cinematic direction. I know i know. this doesnt mean that it was good in itself, but in the case of Chainsaw Man anime, the whole package was insanely good. Voice acting. Animation. Direction. Pacing. Action. Sound desing. Music. And i m not even that much of a fan of the show. The quality is just there.
Because people don't look at the actual category, just the show they like

But I m also more fond of story than action and CM first season was more of a story driven show than jjk season 2 was, that was full action packed. Even then, I still believe that CM direction and cinematography was better despite the few full blown action sequences. Every shot felt like having a storytelling purpose and was not simply there to serve the action

Honestly agree with Garnt, Bocchi the Rock, within one episode alone made it to my best comedy list. The jokes just hit so well for those with social awkward or aversive behavior and just deserves more love.

It's sadly not surprising in the least. It is a popularity contest more than anything, so the more popular a thing is the more votes it gets. JJK deserved to win SOME, but they also won SO many that they did not deserve.
Its not really a popularity contest, the categories and picks were chosen by the judges and who knows what behind the scene. Also its 5 episodes of JKK s2 vs full complete seasons against it.
It's either a popularity contest like this, or ppl call it "out of touch" like the Oscars. And honestly, I prefer this

Plus the community votes do, in a significant part, affect the outcome (otherwise there would be no point in public votes), and with the lay person being generally ignorant to what makes something good, that DOES make it a popularity contest.
The nomines might be chosen by judges and others bts, but that doesn't change that thousands of people vote with "I like this", rather than "this is better than X."
The more popular something is, the more people like it, and since I doubt the majority of people watch everything in its entirety, the votes end up skewed in favour of what is most popular, rather than what is the best. Hence, popularity contest.

for the public vote there could be a checkbox for each nominee to confirm if the voter has even watched the show. add in a little bit of magic called statistics there'd be a much higher probability for non-popular but genuinely best-in-category nominees to win the public vote instead of the popular shows
while i have never watched anime awards ever, and am not an avid anime watcher, whenever i watch jjk it feels like Gojo's VA is always having the time of his life recording those lines and really enjoys what he is doing

For as great as Sawano is, we need to give credit to Kohta Yamamoto for AOT Final Season's soundtrack. All the new tracks (with there being almost 30 of them) were his work and the tone/personality of this season were set by him, with Sawano only helping out with some remixes.
I know it's not intentional on Garnt's part, but putting all the credit on Sawano's shoulders for what is Yamamoto's season is disrespectful to all his hard work. A worthy successor that put his stamp on one of the biggest anime of all time.

For example best character design. This award goes to the artist not the anime. Plus it’s about how well they translated the manga designs into anime. Which- I’ll be honest. 90% of anime’s do an….okay job of this. But JJK definitely does pretty good.
Best opening….honestly I personally didn’t like it very much but best opening is 10000% a popularity contest and the JJK opening was blasted literally everywhere for its entire run so….not even an argument that anything else was close

@@HyperKryst From what I can see, lots of Shonen fans like Frieren. It starts slower than most, but it is a Shonen with amazing production like DS and JJK. The main issue is that it's too new to get the popularity DS and JJK have built up for almost half a decade now.

Each category should definitely have 2 winners, 1 for judge's vote and the other for fan's vote
itd be really cool to see the myanimelist data shown to see how many people finished a show vs how many voted for it. it would certianly show the the most popular show gets the most votes often times but could also show popular shows that didn't get such a high percentage of viewers voting for it or shows where fewer people watched it but it got a higher percentage of them to vote for it, highlighting shows folks are sleeping on.
I think the idea of more categories is good but ultimately the same problem would probably occur with time. I think splitting the popular vote and the judging panel vote (industry "experts") should be separated. Each category would have two winners. If a show managed to get both then you would know that it truly deserved its praise.
Jjk definitely deserves some of these awards but not so many it felt like we are watching JJK awards not anime awards. Yeah Horimiy missing pieces didn't deserve best romance because this season there's wasn't much romance developments like The dangers in my heart or insomniacs after school.

I think the holy shit moment for demon slayer this year, was actually almost as good as the episode 19 scene. The moment where Tanjiro got the red blade, and used the halo dance was absolutely incredible.
