  • Hi every one. Well I've found quite a few LG OLED TV's at the dump but they've all had cracked screens. I finally find one that I think has a good screen and try to DIY repair it. It will not turn on. I'm almost certain it has a bad power board. I also take a little more time and show my process of tracking down boards in my house for a TV repair board swap. Cheers

just seeing your video. I scrap and fix tvs for fun and to be honest your storage idea for the stands is absolutely awesome. I am going to have to set this up in my storage facility.

Even though this turned out to be a no fix video, it's still highly entertaining! There's so much information and suspense. If every video shows a working outcome, it wouldn't be too entertaining as we'd know the outcome ahead of time.
Looking forward to the next find at the dump! Keep up the great work!

Hi Isky, I was rooting for you but you can't win them all as you Know 😏😏I don't know how many times someone has told me "the tv just stopped working" and then get it home to find the screen was cracked. I hope this one will be a win for you eventually 😁😁 Even though it was not a win, it was still a entertaining video. It got a 👍's up.

The fact people think you can fix a broken screen is so funny. And yep, it might take a while but I think I'll get this bad boy going. Check this video out it's gold 😂

    Hiya Isky.
Sounds like it could be capacitor, coil,or diode related on power board.
I doubt that you can be arsed with individual components though .
At least you got a matching 3 seater from your visit to the dump.
    So a 50/50 trip then.
Always look forward to your dump visits surprise item videos though.
    G'luck mate .

Mate I use to do circuit board component work all the time. That's how I started out with electronics. Then all of a sudden I started getting multiple TV's, and it was just easier to replace boards lol. If it actually comes down to it and I can't score a replacement board I'll put a little more effort in. My dad's really good at it as well so he can help. But for now I'm so time restricted. Making videos takes such a long time lol.

Please help . I have an lg oled 55eg9600. It get playing a static image every time I played a video , so I decided to bake the main board and it still had the same Issue . So I gave up and started putting it back but now it doesn’t want to turn on. The lg logo just keeps blinking. Please help.

Sorry to hear that mate. Baking mainboards generally lead to a worse outcomes than positive ones in most cases I recon. I'd rather get a small heat gun and concentrate heat on certain parts these days. You might have to bite the bullet and buy a new one unfortunately. But yes I think you're on the right track by assuming It's a mainboard issue 👍

Sorry for the delayed reply David I had a house fire about the same time as you asked this question and I've only just now got on top of it. I did in fact fix it. I'm pretty sure it was the tcon mate. I made a video but haven't uploaded it yet. Won't be able to until I get another computer to edit video. My other ones were burnt to a crisp.

@@DIYDumpRat Thanks for getting back to me. So sorry to hear about the house fire. Do hope you have got on top of it. With regard to the LG, I thought it might have been the power board, tested with multimeter but it was not that, so like you said, it could be the T-Con. I look forward to watching your content once you are up and running again. Regards 👍

Hey DIY Dump Rat, great vid!
I have 2022 LG OLED TV a friend was transporting while moving interstate that they unfortunately dropped. and because it was damaged they've left it behind.
One corner of the frame\screen is bent and there are some small cracks. It has power, and the power board appears to test ok but the screen wont turn on... we dont have the remote either though, is that required to turn on?
And if the screen is bent in one corner, will that prevent any picture from appearing?
Thanks mate, any guidance would be much appreciated!

    • @DIYDumpRat
      @DIYDumpRat  ปีที่แล้ว

G'day buddy and thanks heaps! Ahhh no that sucks. Pretty much if it has a crack then it's toast unfortunately. Oleds seem to be different to most other tv's that have backlights.
Most of the time if you crack a normal tv you can still see part or most of the picture. But with Oled's I've found that you can't. In fact every Oled that I've turned on with a crack, no matter how big the crack or it's position, I've never been able to get any picture to appear at all appear.
So I just grab them to harvest the boards.
But to answer your other question yes you can turn it on without the remote. Normally at the bottom center of the screen there is a power button. At least on the models I've had.
You can always sell the TV as is. You'll probably get a bit for it. Lot's of people out there looking for good boards to help fix their tv's. Good lucky mate! 👍

it is possible to get the TV on again if Panel has a issue. i had the 55EC930v and i was spending a looooooot of time with it (months)
i needed a service remote (old phone can also work galaxy s5 because of IR Blaster) and then you will see something on the screen like in the video at 21:10. unfortanetly my panel went down after 4 years and i saw at boot with service remote green clouds and sometimes it went on, then the panel right side crashed, it was flickering and boom tv off.
i bypassed the protection by using tape and searching for service manual in internet. on LVDS cable i had to put tape on a pin called "BURNT_DET". now tv couldn't check anymore for panel and T-con issues and will always boot after using service remote. BUT, now you have to be carefully. OLEDs won't turn on if they have a problem because it could be something dangerous. i mean, after forcing the panel to turn on (the screen freezed in white color with stripes) the left screen side went really hot with 88°c. i was 30-40cm away from panel and i feeled something getting warm and then OUTSCH the panel is hot. that was the final end for me...
summarized: you need a service remote or old phone with IR Blaster and app RCOID. download in the app LG service menu.
then find the protection pin on LVDS cable (using a service manual will help to find it faster) and put tape on that protection pin. if it's a panel issue, your tv will turn on again now. if not turning on, the issue will be the MB or PSU.

@@MichaelDRE26 Depends what you call a bad panel mate. I've always referred to TV's with LED backlight problems (where an LED bulb in the back goes bad, therefor creating a cascading affect and rendering the TV useless) as a TV with a bad panel. You can't really fix that without pulling the entire panel apart (incredibly risky and difficult).
What you are referring to is a TV with a screen fault where a pixel in the screen itself is bad and all you are trying to do is mask the signal going to the bad pixel with sticky tape. I guess some times I too refer to that as a bad panel as well.
To fix a screen fault you can use sticky tape, but only on certain screen fault issues. Not all issues can be fixed.
I show people how to do that in this video here: th-cam.com/video/WwpjbLrydmE/w-d-xo.html 👍

But with Bad panels I was meaning the OLEDs, not LED TVs, sorry. 😅

  • @garyrymell3498
    @garyrymell3498 ปีที่แล้ว +1

STOP, its not the power supply.Sadly you don't know it yet, but you have just blown up the mainboard, the problem is either the screen is shorting out or the t conn board is faulty. I know this cos I've screwed up 3 main boards. I think in the near future you will see more and more of these TVs in the tip.The clicking sound is the safety from the PSU switching off cos your pulling too much power

It’s not any of the boards. It’s the screen.
      It’s 100% not power board.
You need to snap a resistor off the main or tcon or pick off one of the pins on the lvds.
It’s pin 12 to be exact
      It’s the burn protection sos
It might look ok or it might not.
Which you could find out before even taking the cover off it you had a service remote for LG
