CONGRATS!! I'm currently on day 224 with no support, just cold turkey & trusting myself to not fall back in. Life is full of ups and downs and right now i'm down but i know if i relapse i'll fall even further down this ladder we climb. Love you Russell, thanks for inspiring us

Good for you man. From experience, consider finding some support, though. I don’t know you, but for myself, the year/365 day mark things changed and without a counselor I am pretty sure I would have relapsed. Still, 224 days is awesome.

Going on 4 years clean for me. Congrats my friend. Stay strong.
I talked to a professor about my previous life when I was a drug addict and he mentioned he was an alcoholic years ago. He said addicts have a different perspective of life when they get clean because they know what it feels like to be dead inside and once you are clean you realize how beautiful life is and love every day. That resonated with me a lot.

10 months no alcohol here after 17 years. Congrats brother. My takeaway from addiction is that people who never experienced that do not understand the vast mental swings and demons that takeover your mindset. 99% of my friends we're made at bars, I quit, now maybe have 2 friends. It takes time to recover and time to rebuild socially. Isolation can be extreme and it's important to have people around. I'm rooting for you 100% and here's to another 19 years! Watching this as I couldn't watch the 20 years victory that a friend sent (congrats on the 20 Mr Brand)
I'm today 27 months and 15 days sober. My alcoholism was created out of association and then routine. Luckily, my addiction was a few years, but those few years caused so much chaos that I am of course, ashamed of, but I no longer dwell upon. I own my mistakes but am moving forward and not living in the past. I'm close to regaining access to my son and I am living a life now with so much positive energy in it, I feel so very blessed.
Identifying with so much you're saying fella makes me smile and I just want to again, congratulate you on your 20 years clean and thank those around me who stuck around and supported me. The tools learnt from my S.M.A.R.T meetings and to say to anyone in addiction, if you want to get clean, you CAN get clean. You ARE strong enough and ARE worth it. Stay strong all 💪🏼

I am 8 years clean and sober and I am so proud of myself and all those that have fought these demons, addiction and are living a successful recovery. Thank you Russell for having the courage to speak about your past and your bright future. I was severely injured in Afghanistan and subsequently prescribed painkillers during months and months of recovery and rehab. Through treatment, I realized that my youth led to my adulthood being predisposed to addiction and that I would have the fight of my life on my hands. As my life and family were being destroyed from the inside out, i reached the lowest point of my life and knew if I didn't change and get off these pills I would be broke and worse possibly dead. Through a strong support system and my determination to change my life, I've been slowly conquering my addiction and living my best life. Thank you Russell and for all those out there battling addiction...you can do it and I have faith in you, even if you don't!

CONGRATULATIONS Russel! A friend visited last week, a 53 year old mother of 3 children. She is a big fan of yours and saw you talking about recovery, it gave her the courage to admit she had an issue with alcohol. She studied your journey and applied it to her life, she went to AA, got a sponsor, a therapist, support from friends and family. This was a 2 years ago, and she had the courage to do it through the duress of lockdowns and madness in Australia. She held on and her life has changed dramatically. Your influence is far reaching Russell! Thank you!

Russell, you are a total inspiration! In sharing your path, you are illuminating the way for others. You have shown me it's possible to change, and helped me appreciate that my addiction to alcohol was caused by a spiritual longing, a disconnection from myself and others, and the earth. My dad was an alcoholic and died when I was 14, he never managed to find his way, there ways always something missing for him. He died kneeling by his bedside. I want to believe he was praying, that as he passed on he prayed for something better, for love, for freedom, for the suffering to end. It was so hard losing my father to the void, it made me determined to find another way. I've always believed change is possible but it took a long time to admit my own problems and accept I needed help - that's the bit I've struggled with the most. Tomorrow, I'm a year and 4 months sober, one day a time, like you say. I'm sticking with it because of people like you - you're a beacon in the darkness of a broken society, showing what it is when you live the life that was intended for you. Thank you for shining so brightly, thank you for finding the words for addiction, thank you for giving so many people like me hope and the confidence to go on. I am forever grateful. ❤️✨🕯️

Congratulations Russell Brand!!! Your miracle inspired mine... I was on drugs for many many years and I had 3 years clean as of Nov 14 and it's largely due to reading your book, recovery, and taking the advice you give. I got involved with an anonymous programs, went to meetings and never used even if I wanted to. I would not still be here if I hadn't gotten clean. So, I thank you for showing me a clean life was possible.
I fully believe that society and the state of things with mental illness and all the suffering people suffer is causing massive rises in addiction.

Was 8 pints and a bottle of JD every day for 12 years. Went cold turkey and was terrified of needing medical help. Decided to do it on my own (just worked for me) sober for just over 4 years. At a stage where i can even go in a pub and not drink alcohol. Everybody is different. xxxx

common fallacy. real addicts just dont magically "drop" it. thousands of addicts confirm this thru AA. good for you if you are being truthful, but you would be 1 out a millions of you were a true addict and just randomly dropped it.

19 years is definitely something to be proud of!!
So is 19 weeks, so is 19 days. Anyone making these goals should feel proud! One step at a time
I have a few people I care about that I wish I could help, but I know they can't start the journey until *they* want the change... If they do it for someone else it won't stick, with possibly the exception of their own children.

Good for you Russell! I haven't had any Alcohol in almost three years now. I stopped drinking when I realized that 99% of all bad decisions I'd made was after being under the influence of alcohol. Feels great to wake up in the morning never having a hangover. Tried weed, but never got hooked into using any drugs. I think one of the main problems with society today is the lack of community. I see people walk their dogs reading stuff on their phone, not actually being aware of the world. Others blindly go to work and acts as robots, not using their critical thinking ability and ignoring what their body and mind says. I'm in the process of going minimalistic by selling most of my belongings, and eventually moving onto a sailing boat with which I'm planning to be a net positive for the world ;) Cheers to you bro!

Thank you Russell for sharing & Congratulations on this special milestone - whilst you couldn't have done it without the support, love, tenderness and teaching of those crucial people in your journey of recovery and sobriety it is important to not discredit that you yourself worked hard to apply what you learned - were accountable to others and were committed one day at a time for 19years Well done! I am on my own journey of recovery and as part of that I have lost 22kgs and took up barbell strength training and whilst I couldn't have done it on my own - I am proud of myself for working hard to live differently - Keep learning & growing, Stay strong and get stronger, because you care enough about yourself to value the importance of staying clean and sober for your own wellbeing, to be the best husband and father you can be & to keep being a positive change agent in this world and in your communities. :-) The hard work involved in recovery is so worth it.

I was 14 when I went to my first AA meeting. With my dad. But to see how another person could open themselves up and talk about the wrongs they did and other people supporting them and letting them know that even if they used to be "terrible" people that change was possible. I'm now 39 and have battled addiction for close to 14 years, I know that people genuinely want to help other people and its helped me greatly. Congratulations on 19 years sober brother. One day I'll be there too.
