    Having a microphone dedicated to the sounds of pin manipulation made me realize that lock picking would be a fantastic subject for augmented reality/haptic feedback! Using the Nintendo Switch as an example, imagine watching this video with an overlay of the keyway and pins while the real lock is being picked, and holding the controllers as though they were pick tools while actually feeling the sensation of that subtle click of pins being set (or missed)!
    There's no substitute for actual keyway manipulation, of course. But as a training tool it could really convey even more of the subtleties involved. Bill is an incredibly excellent instructor, but even he is limited to a degree in what he can convey just by the nature of video presentation.
    Excellent video as always!

    I've opened a lot of 2nd hand Euro Cylinders obtained from Ebay U.K. On another video Bosnianbill shows that picking a few pins, then fast zipping the others gets a result. This has worked well for me. High Security Euro Cylinders might open using this strong tension method! I can't wait to try it.

    Hello. I have been attempting to pick the same lock. I managed to get it to turn 90 degrees one way, and a quarter turn the other way, but no further and no luck in actually opening the door. Great video

      By golly it worked too...Repeatably.
      All this time I'd been fiddling around with a very gentle touch and all it needed was brute force and ignorance.
      My lock had some visible serrations on the key pins too...

    Great video Bill. Sometimes something more than light tension is needed. Just goes to show, All locks are different. Thanks again for the information.

    Never new you could use heavy tension on a Wilka,Good info Mr.Bill

    Interesting tidbit about relating tension levels to lock precision.

    something to help with the acoustics for your videos, place the lock against the bottom block between the jaws on your vise, then tighten down, it does help transmit some more sound.

    Kinda reminds me of Wilson bohannon locks. Good precision but relatively easy to pick with really heavy tension.

    (I'm no lock picker)
    I've noticed you always pick locks with the pins going up.
    Now in Germany the locks we use usually have the pins going down (so what you say is bottom of the keyway would be top), so are you picking it like this because preference, for the video or do you use locks "upside down" in America?

    • @michaelkartman3543
      @michaelkartman3543 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In America, were a little retarded. We indeed pick our locks “upside down”, but that is probably due to more of our American made locks in our homes/business are built and installed that way. I tried both methods when I first started picking and definitely found the American method to be much easier, allowing the ability to leverage off the bottom of the key way to push the pins into place.

    you almost snapped it in half with that heavy tension LMAO

  • @elektro-peter1954

    Wilka was never a problem for me... here in Germany they are one of the easiest locks to pick I find. As easy as the normal Abus ones, though with a somewaht different feel.. It allways has spools, and also turns really far on a spool, and it's precise but still a bit mushy on the edge which helps you if you know what I mean. I find DOM and CES to be the hardest here in Germany of the standard locks. Some BKS are also pretty tuff. They are very precise most of the time, you allways have to go back an forth on the pins on those.

    Wait, so having extremely precise pins and minimal gaps around them is actually worse than if they were loose and wobble?

      no binding order!

    • @whatzituya55
      @whatzituya55 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dakoit wuther actually that makes sense. Does that mean you could use a Bogota or rake it with firm tension?

    • @Bromy2004
      @Bromy2004 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have thought that precise pins meant you couldn't set them. The other pins would always be blocking it

    • @Chlorate299
      @Chlorate299 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Problem is once you have one pin set, any manipulation of the other pins just causes the set pins to drop. The brute force tactic here forces all of the pins to bind so you can slide them home in any order.
      It works well in this case because they don't seem to use many spool pins which would lock up tight and make you back off the plug torsion.

    • @whatzituya55
      @whatzituya55 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      djteac I guess if you try too hard, things will have the outcome you want least lol

    • @tortex1
      @tortex1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm guessing that with so many standard pins in there, the high precision doesn't help, it just eliminates the uncertainty. If it had trap pins, or whatever they're called, in most most positions with one or two standards for camouflage, I reckon it would have worked in their favor.

    • @michaelkartman3543
      @michaelkartman3543 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tortex The precision becomes a weakness when someone like Bill is picking, he knows what to look for. It causes a definite binding order, and without any security pins, all you need to do is wrench on the tension and pop those standard pins above the shear line. If they put a mixture of serrated/spools, I’m certain it would be much more difficult of a pick.
