What I like about this fight is how it doesn't weaken Vader and makes his nigh-defeat believable. Here's what I think of all of it. It's made clear several times that Vader is much stronger and more skilled than Cere, more than once he parries or avoids her strikes pretty casually while she's clearly exherting a lot of strength. She's strong enough to stand her grounds against him, which is more than many Jedi could do, including Masters, and he himself acknowledges her skills. But at the same time, the cutscenes show he's still the superior fighter, he's not totally casual but he's not serious either, he puts some minimal efforts (which again is more than many Jedi could make him do at this point) but that's it. He knows he can end her very easily so he plays with his food. And this is what allows Cere to get an advantage. She manages to take Vader by surprise with desperate means and a sudden move that he could have easily avoided or countered but because he underestimates her, he doesn't. The wounds he sustains weaken him and even after that, he doesn't seem to exhert his full strength judging by the cutscene, enabling Cere to wound him and put in a genuinely dangerous position. And then she makes the same mistake, in a different manner. She makes a risky move to finish Vader, believing what she did to him is enough to leave him unable to react properly or retaliate. She goes for the kill but in a way that is clearly reckless, because she sees him against the wall and wounded. By jumping like she did, she left herself opened for Vader to react, counter her strike and give her a fatal blow she could have avoided had she not been so reckless. Like Vader at the start of their fight, she underestimated him, thought he was now an easy prey and ultimately got killed for it. She still managed to far much better than many others and succeeded in wounding him. She was certainly not strong enough to compare to him, nor skilled enough, but she was still a worthy opponent for Vader.
Also remember this is early Vader. He is still pretty fresh from Revenge of the Sith. He still carries that youthful anger, impatience and recklessness, and lack of experience and skill. Add in everything you said about him not giving it his all, and her using outside advantages, it makes sense that she stopped him. And yet despite ALL this, not only did he NOT die, but he managed to still kill her.
@@spider-man500 this is not early Vader. This game takes place ten years after Revenge of the Sith. Vader is closer to the Battle of Yavin at this point than he is to the fall of the republic.
Those who complain Vader killed Jedi Masters in the Jedi Temple are the reason he should beat Cere. People forget he was not burned nor in his uncomfortable dark suit at that time. Plus, Vader's power diminished after he was burned and this literally made Sidious contemplate if he should discard Vader or not.
The way he gets up from the wall and walks away after the fight also tells a lot, in my opinion. He was kind of worn out, injured both in body and spirit, not expecting Cere to damage him the way she did by trapping him under the rubble. He was angry about it, and he wasn't proud of how the fight went. That's why he didn't even look at her after the duel ended. He just pulled himself up and limped away.
I was so happy every time I died to this fight, because it was an amazing fight but it was giving Vader so much honor as well. And I agree Cere can be a good match for him, especially as she is now in this game. If it was the last game, no, that Cere wouldn’t have been able to hold a candle to him and the only time she did was through the dark side. This Cere I think has almost become a grand master, she has completely let go of fear, embracing the light side and other than force crush which she even only used in doors she did absolutely no dark side things. We see her use force heal and considering how calm she is in every single one of the blade clashes probably an expert at force Valor and other things like that. This isn’t saying Vader is weak, this is saying that a cere without fear is strong, and even then Vader is still a better duelist then her obviously because he won, hell he was even cocky. You can tell by the change in his attack patterns by phase 3 that he wasn’t taking it seriously until he took some decent damage. If he started all out he probably would’ve won.
@@QuadZillaGodZillasbrother not really only a few times and when it did happen it was due to being outnumbered most of the time not a 1 on 1. Realistically, Vader should be destroying her easily
Vader is the force's chosen Cere was meant to lose the moment she decided to fight, we have to at least respect that, or to put it into Vader's words "She died braver than most!"
I think what I love the most about this fight is how they did Vader’s lightsaber combat. Very rarely is the actual moves so eye catching that it actually draws my attention to them and not just when and how to react. Every movement and action of Vader’s feels immaculate, purposeful, each swing and strike leading into the next. On phase 3 it shifts into double time, he never stops except for brief moments, he mixes in force enhanced strikes with his normal ones without even changing the stance which if we didn’t have the red shift we’d be hit with something we wouldn’t be able to block completely unexpectedly. They truly make him a master lightsaber combatant and his lightsaber fighting actually looks like a true master of sword fighting.
Wait a minute: The power to slow down time, has lost his master/adoptive father, uses a sword and a gun, can see echoes in the force, is a ladies man and has ginger hair, girlfriend is a witch that dresses in red, fights for the sake of peace, Kal is fusion of Kiritsugu & Shirou Emiya!
The force did not will her victory no matter how badly she whooped the shit out of him. Could've made an interesting alternate ending. Vader is going to remember that beating he recieved because he almost was ended by his "lessers".
I want to think due to how many hits she gets in vader was just letting her beat on him a little bit in order to lure her into a false mindset that she could actually beat him just so he could deliver a finishing blow
Anyone know if this is before or after Obi Wan Kenobi? Like same year but did he walk out of this fight, get repaired and then go after Kenobi or other way around?
I like to think this is before due to his comments about the inquisitor program being a-okay but Obi-Wan shows up to the palace and stirs things up in Kenobi. It just feels like Kenobi is afterwards because its so climactic.
Vader dominated his opponents through fear. Cere did not have fear. Vader made his combat style powerful and precise. Cere understood his combat style and countered it. Vader is however more powerful in the force and is only nearly defeated at the end but still what an impressive duel.
