No one seems to be talking about how beautifully broken this could be for one turning humans! Just step your catcher one sq forward is like a guanateed quick snap every time this fella is on the pitch.

I finally was able to run Ivar in a match and he is absolutely outstanding. He is priced very reasonably and is already great with his stat line of S4, Block, Guard, Tackle, which already brings so much utility to a team. Add his special ability, which is one of the best in the game, and you have a top tier star player. I was very impressed with how much better he made my whole team (Norse)

Where Grif can win a game by himself with his skills, Ivar is a star player that helps boost the team for future games - 2-4 uses of his ability per game means 2-4 extra blocks, which can be up to 8 more SPP. On top of that, he has guard, to help with those hits, and Tackle means he can be a safety and deal with a dodge piece while still letting someone else move further out.

      U calculate 2-4 drives for 4 uses? I would say u get 2 uses automatically + After 3ach td.
The meta leads to a 2-1 drive, if u want to be Safe?
This would be 5 usses of this skill.
But my curent question is, if you can get a 1 turn td Runner with this ability.
How far can u push one of your Players, if u get 1 additional square of free movement? Give a human catcher 1 additional movement point and Sprint?
Will be M8 human catcher able to perform a skaven gutterrunner gameplay with this?

Does the special power can be applied to Ivar himself provided is an open player himself ?
It would be usefull to bring Guard in contact of a cage ...
Can you imagine side step instead of tackle ?

Can someone clarify how Ivar Eriksson’s special ability works ? Does the player targeted by « raiding party » has to be « open / not marked », as stated in the description ? Or is it badly worded and should we rely on the effects which implies that it could be marked since he can ignore tackle zones ? What’s the real final answer please (and could you justify - so to avoid the display of personal opinions). Thank you so much !

Raiding party is a fun little special power in a fun game. However in the competitive environment it really helps a couple of teams (humans and OWA) one turn so will only increase the likelihood that stars get banned which is a shame.

In a tournament u may be right, because it doesn't matter, if Griff is scoring. But in a league, if u have the opportunity to let your positionals perform more touchdowns, amd score more spp. this is nice.

Ivar absolutely has a place. He adds more utility to the rest of the team than Griff. You take Griff when you need a play maker and you take Ivar when you want to boost your whole team. As a Norse, Human, or OWA player I’d take Ivar. As a Dwarf, Halfing, or Ogre player I’d probably take Griff.

    Hey guys.
Today I've seen gw released the norse Stars stats as Downloads in their Website. So I had to come back here for 1 question.
Ivars ability raiding Party allows him to move 1 open player, by 1 square ignoring tackle tones doing so.
    When does this get relevant?
I mean, when the player is open anyway, when do the tacklezone become a relevant Think?
For the move itself this is completely unimportant, because the 1 step move can't be a Dodge anyway, isn't it?
But does this mean, if the player is moving into a square with the Ball, that he is ignoring all tacklezones to pick it up?!?! If yes, this would be amazingly strong!!!

  • @parnelllalonde2281

I wonder, if a Treeman has failed a Take Root roll, and if Ivar use his Raiding Party special rule to allow the Treeman to move one square, will that allow the Treeman to be no longer be effective of the Take Root, just like when a Treeman fall prone, and then stands back up again.

Rooted treeman cannot move voluntarily or otherwise. Rb page 87

@@user-ow5zj3uu9n Ah, a lost soul that fell into my trap of me opening up crazy possibilities.
It is true, in the rule book it does say that they cannot move voluntarily or otherwise, once they have taken root, but with Star Players Special Rule, sometime they breaks that mold, because Ivar Special Rule does say that he can choose One open player may immediately move one square, but they have to be marking someone after that movement.
To me, it's not that much of a big deal one way or the other, as the special rule is only once per drive, Treeman movement is only 2 at best, and they have to start making the Take Root roll again and once a Treeman is rooted, player avoid him and try and stay out his reach or be pushed into his reach. But if you can move them after they Take Root, it will be a shocking surprise to the coach that didn't see it coming.
Also, and argument can be made with Halfling and Wood Elves coaches that have a Treeman on their team, and they get Pow! down, they can say, that their Treeman don't go down, as falling down prone is considered involuntarily movement, because standing up from prone takes 3 movement, and they will make that fall into the "Otherwise" category in the Take Root rule.Or when they roll a Both Down, or a Skull result, as they might be hoping for that result, and "Voluntarily" make the Treeman Prone.
Like I said, if Ivar Special Rule does allow a Treeman to move one square after they Take Root, it's not the end of the world, it's will just be Coaches that will argue the rules to death, who can't see both sides of the coin, and agree to disagree for now, will cause the end of the world to happen.

@@parnelllalonde2281 just to play with that idea once:
If a rooted treeman is pushed, the treeman player has the choise to trigger stand firm, or not. The same as with chainpushes.
So beeing moved by a different player is absolutely possible.
Now looking at raiding party: the rules say, that Ivar is the one, that moves a different player.
It is not an voluntair move by that player, but it is moved by Ivar...

@@berry8932 yes, now you are thing of different possibilities of what you can do with skills, and special rules.
In D&D 4th, the was a fighter class (I think it was the Warlord class) that can use his standard action to make one person on his team to make an attack action, out of his turn. When it comes down to Ivar and his special rule, it sounds like he can just choose whomever and they can move, regardless of what condition they are under effect, as long that they are open and not in any tackle zones.
I'm also guessing he can't use it on a prone as it takes 3 movement to stand up. However, I just thought of this right now. What if Ivar use his special power on a prone player that has Jump Up, as Jump Up allows the player to stand up for free. Interesting...

I agree - his trait feels like a pseudo blitz which is massive esp as it's once a drive - short ass dwarves could certainly use it well and it means circumventing a little things like Ogres Bone head (tie up bash team pieces without risking rolling it or if it's bone headed from last turn already move it next to a piece to hopefully activate it again for a free block with a strength 5 big guy). That's just other teams, thinking of Norse and getting a free chance at bashing someone's head in without need of blitz on a team full of frenzy and block? Yes please!
