Does it really make sense to solder the GND wire to the mainboard? Can't we just take the same ground from the USB ports for example? It may not be the best option if you want to use UART constantly (glueing the converter to the case and all that stuff), but if it's more of a once-a-while thing-that sounds a bit more convenient to me to only have one extra wire rather than two.

He wanted me to make this video because according to him there wasn't many good tutorials on how to do this and other developers were apprehensive about attempting it. The way I see it the more developers we have the better for the community. Maybe one of those devs will make something you do find useful in the future and I will be sure to cover it.

You should be able to, normally you have to install either the same firmware or higher when you do. I upgraded my hdd on both my ps3 and ps4.
