You shouldn’t take the lyrics so literally. Chino is not like most lyricists in metal, he has a more painterly style, and is more interested in the feelings he can evoke in the listener. He doesn’t really talk about the subject matter of his songs anymore as he would prefer it to be up to the listener’s interpretation! I always take this song to be more about having a very intense sexual connection with someone, and how that can feel overwhelming and like you can’t control it. Don’t be put off, they’re a more interesting and rewarding band than almost any other you could dig into!

Deftones!!! really glad you guys are diving into it. They have been my favorite band for a long time. They have so much range...you have mellow, atmospheric songs like this and then you have songs where they just come right at you with heavy riffs and screaming. A lot of different vibes and this band will take you for a journey. If you love this vibe you will adore the song "Sextape" by them. It comes off the Diamond Eyes album. Watch the music video too, its beautiful! I think you would also enjoy the whole Saturday Night Wrist album by them, but if I had to request one song it would be "Sextape." Love the reactions, you are beautiful souls!
This album and song in particular were SO influential to me and my friends as 17 year old total fucking art weirdos with a darker sense of humor than we probably should have had. There are so many hooks... The sinister guitars. The round, looming, bassline and bouncy drums that almost have an R&B ballad feel. Chino's asthmatic vocals that have a desperate quality. The ambience of the water and the sound of air moving through the drain of a tub... The fact that it sounds sad, creepy, sexy AND even romantic is what makes this song and album in general what it is. White Pony has probably the best production, arrangements and thematic elements of any other album of its time. There is also a song on it called 'Feiticeira' which is very similar in concept but from the female perspective. White Pony explores Taoist concepts of opposites in that way.

Definitely the song don't have to be taken literally, this is one of those songs that you have to listen over and over again to get a close interpretation to the reality, for me the song is about to take away a girl and her image off your mind, a girl that sometime hurt you, make you feel bad or broke your heart. Simply take away a love that was bad for your life.
Keep in mind a lot of the material on this album came when the band members starting experimenting heavy with drugs; hence why Digital Bath is on an album is called “White Pony”.

The off-kilter Syd Barrett style lyricism is common in Deftones lyrics. He isn't promoting doing this. It's a dream he had while really zonked out at a party and it really shocked him so he wrote a song about it.
Deftones are my favorite by far! May i suggest: Deftones - Rosemary, or Cherry Waves. Both great songs! There more heavy stuff would be Hexagram or When Boys Telephone Girls.....their style is so unique and Chino`s voice and screams are from another planet....truly unique.
Try Change in the House of Flies. Be Quite and drive. My own summer. Have You Seen the Butcher. Minerva. Many more. They have a different style. But it's so good and unique.Give it a chance.

There is also sextape by them which has one of the most gorgeous music videos I have seen and its a super romantic song despite the title making it seem like it is pervy haha.
