    Sounds right enough that Ian , your voice is clear and the rumble of Clementine is just right in the background, not drowning you out , good to see you out and about again! 👍

      Believe it or not, I still think the original set up was the best on back lanes, before I fitted the DJI mic adapter, but I want to persevere with this new stuff, as it does have the edge on bigger roads.

    Talking about meeting a tractor, i was out the other day on my Meteor going down a lane similar to the one you are on i slowed down on the approach to a bend and low and behold a Working tractor filled the lane it was cutting the grass , i had to stop and move as far over as possible to let him pass , very politely just enough room for the tractor driver to get through the gap , you can never be to careful thats for sure , stay safe Ian . 😊

    Nice to see you out and about, Ian. 👍 Delightful ride again, though with those high hedgerows, it's sometimes like riding with green blinkers on! Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. They just serve to show the rest of the world what we're missing, as does the wonderful British weather! 😁 That cyclist was being deliberately obstructive.

      Thanks ice. There are a few vids on the subject of using the zoom in TH-cam land. The best results are by putting the mic under the pillion seat, but as I can’t do that, I used the tailbag. Tbh, only time will tell if it is worth the extra time it takes in editing. I can’t believe there was still a couple of instances where the helmet mic was clipping, a bit strange, considering it didn’t do it on the RE group ride on the Interceptor, at faster speeds 🤔.
      On the OA4, can you record into the camera from two Mic 2’s at the same time ?

  • @5dTraveller
    @5dTraveller 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Ian, an enjoyable ride along some interesting 'roads'. Some cyclists are absolute prats with no courtesy or consideration, and they're the ones who moan most because other road users don't respect them.
    The audio recorder is working fine, just a little bit muffled. You could probably sort it out with some EQ but if it's in a bag you shouldn't need the DeadCat, you've already said your going to try without. I had mine in my humpback map pouch for my trip west and it worked ok except it picked up too much noise though the seat because the bag was packed with heavy tools. I decided to get a new Tascam DR05X so I'm going to try the old one in a pocket and different mounting positions for the new one. I've found it saves a lot of time in editing, much easier to get better voice and engine sound with separate recordings.
    Cheers, Mick

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Mick. Agree on the Lycra loonie 😂. Yes, I think it was a bit muffled too. I literally took some settings from another chap on TH-cam as a base point, and put it in the pocket in the lid of the bag. It picked up movement of the bag going over bumps, and the handles of the zips. Next time, I will take more care, and strap the bag down properly 🙄😂.
      One of the main reasons for trying to work with the zoom, is for taking demo bikes out, which haven’t got as loud an exhaust as Clementine. So I may look to getting some kind of bum bag for those occasions, or, if they have a removable seat hump, stick it in there 😉

    Nice ride Ian! Sound was good, looking forward to the next one without the dead cat. If you're going to keep finding lanes like that maybe get some trail tyres! Bruce was originally looking at some knobblier ones, but I said they would rattle his teeth out 😂. When Clementine’s tyres need replacing, I will be going down that route 👍. Just need the rain to bugger off so we can get out again. You wouldn’t believe how hard it rained just after I returned home 🤬😂 Cheers

    Sounds great Ian. I'm looking for an audio solution for my videos as well and that is an interesting idea. How did you sync the audio to the video? What's your setup?

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Set up is….DJI Osmo Action 3, with DJI mic adapter, and Cheap Amazon laptop/notebook mic in helmet. I was using the DJI lav mic, but I was getting too much clipping. The Zoom H1N, with dead cat, is in a pocket in the lid of my tail bag. To me it sounds a bit muffled, hence why next time, I will try without the dead cat. I watched a few TH-cam vids on using the zoom for on motorcycles. One is called The Schaaff (?) method, which I might try as well.
      Syncing was a bit of a pain, but I turned everything on before setting off on the bike, then pressed the horn 3/4 times, to make editing easier. Hopefully that will get better over time, but this was my first attempt. Cheers

    • @BulletBeena
      @BulletBeena 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ianhughesroyalenfield I’ll have to check out the Schaaf method. I’ve got an Osmo Action 4 and I’ve just been using the inbuilt mics for ambient sounds, which is ok but it’s hard fighting the wind noise so I’d rather have a separate mic behind me to cut it out altogether.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @BulletBeena the built in mics have no chance coping with the wind noise created by motorcycle use. You definitely need another option. Having the OA4, you could buy a Mic 2, which connects wirelessly to the camera without the need of a receiver. It’s certainly a good starting point, and if you do find you would like to introduce more exhaust note, look to the zoom h1n from “Bax Shop”, they have them on offer at the moment. There are loads of vids on the Mic 2 😉.

    • @BulletBeena
      @BulletBeena 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ianhughesroyalenfield No the internal mics aren’t great. I bought a mic cover for the camera and I use a piece of cardboard to cover the mics as well and it kind of works ok. Would rather have something better though. I have looked at the DJI Mic 2 but someone told me that it doesn’t always connect straight away when you do a quick record, which is not great.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have seen that too, but would expect DJI to solve that through an update. That wouldn’t actually bother me, as I just record the whole ride, as opposed to starting / stopping / starting again. It’s all clever stuff though isn’t it 😉

    Lacks clarity of voice for me, sounds muffled and far away. Have to turn it up to uncomfortable levels to understand you. Listening on home cinema.
    Perfect ofc would be two recordings, one for the motor and one for the mouth. In audio software you can then automatically lower the volume of the motor track when the mouth track is active.
    Yeah, that's quite some work on top of the rest. Just my 2 cents on what I think is optimal.

    • @ianhughesroyalenfield
      @ianhughesroyalenfield  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This was my first attempt using an external mic…..so having the mic in the helmet to capture my voice, and the Zoom H1N in the tailbag to capture the exhaust. Unfortunately, it didn’t really work, especially when listening through a soundbar/sub, or as in your case, a home cinema. Most viewers are absolutely fine with my normal way of recording audio, just using the helmet mic, it’s just me who wants to capture the beautiful exhaust note. After some input from another comment, I am now playing with using a lav mic, connected to the Zoom, with the mic tucked away from the wind. Getting the correct level in editing is proving to be tricky, I have produced one video (using stock footage) but not made it public, as the exhaust audio was too high, meaning you could barely hear my voice. All this does of course add another level to the editing process, which already takes me about 5 hours, but hopefully it will be worth the effort eventually. Always playing, always learning 🙉😂 Here is that video, it is the same as the original I made public, but with the added zoom audio track, which just needs reducing by a couple of notches 🫣🙄 th-cam.com/video/cBtLKXoEgBs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TWL1oUPm67lycdt- Cheers
