The sausage is called either square, lorne or slice, depending on which area you come from. Call it flat sausage in front of a Scot again though and you may get that Glesga (Glasgow) kiss!
not many scottish people that eat square sausage know whats different or why its square ,, square sausage is beef , round banger thing which most english breakfast consist of is pork , but if you have a beef burger thats a round flat sausage but its a burger ,because its not square 😂😂😂 so know you know
Lee that breakfast looks absolutely delicious I like that they don’t pre butter the toast, the breakfast itself looks very very delicious. The place itself look great looks clean and the staff seem to be very friendly, the waiter to the side of you having a laugh and joke with customers. I’d definitely give it a 10 it’s getting harder to find great service and great food.👍🏴
I worked all over Scotland about ten odd years ago and had many a good breakfast. The square sausage was ace but the haggis was out of this world, Not to mention the black pudding suppas as well 👍
Millions of Italians fled Italy to escape poverty, I think it was between 1880 and 1914 . Thousand landed in Scotland and settled in Glasgow and other city’s . With them they brought there customs, culture and food, and Scotland is better off for their presence. A case of immigration work perfectly. Haste ye back big man 👍
Lee you are telling things as you see it, don't ever be ashamed. Folks can see your reviews as honesty. That's what makes your vlogs so great, honest and you always say, "judge for yourself" 👍
Good morning from west Central Scotland, we have small communities in most parts here think a lot of them came over late 40s 50s. We actually had a small Coias cafe near where I stay, 1 of original family still living in family home they were famous for best ice cream, also I of the Coias used 2 present tv our STV here. Glad u enjoyed your time in Glasgow we are by nature very friendly country. Haste ye back 🙂
You asked about the big Italian influence in Glasgow. Mass wartime immigration. They're a well loved, deeply ingrained part of the city. The much-maligned 'Scottish deep fried pizza' actually originates from the Italian immigrants, particularly from those from Naples who went on to run fish and chip shops. Pizza Napoli - deep fried.
Thank you for the shout out, pleased you enjoyed Coias its a regular place for me. Happy you didn’t get a Glesga Kiss, am guessing that was Sunday morning and that was a mammoth walk you did! Haste ye back soon!
Little history into this family owned business. A member of this family is called Paul Coia and he was a tv celebrity throughout the uk as well as doing radio work. He was the first voice to be heard on Channel 4 back in November 2nd 1982 to introduce Countdown to the viewers as Countdown was the first to be aired on Channel 4 . He married a former Miss England Debbie Greenwood. Look him up. That’s his family business you were in .
Fantastic vlogs on Scotland, my wife and I have really enjoyed them. I hope one day you will visit the lovely town of Ayr right on the coast fish&chips breakfasts golore
Alfredo’s place is fantastic. I went to primary school with him when his Dad ran the original cafe that was further along Duke St. Enjoy. Glad you loved our city👍
What a cracking looking breakfast Lee. That really was a first class Scottish breakfast with the Lorne sausage. Over the years I’ve been to Scotland I’ve always enjoyed the Scottish one over an English. From Inverness, Perth, Oban, Edinburgh, Fort William at hotels or self catering cottages I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed Scotland. Never heard of that Glaswegian kiss though but I know exactly what you mean Lee. Wouldn’t want to be in the receiving end however. After the disappointment of the fish & chips this has made amends.😉👍
Wow What a brilliant scottish breakfast as you say Lee you pay for the full experience and QUALITY NOT QUANTITY COUNTS!! And that whole experience was Quallity 12/10 from me Bralliant foodI love Scotland and the people as you say are Really nice 🤓👍
Coias has been around longer than you and I, Lee and it is fantastic, so a good choice. Glad you enjoyed Glasgow and hope you come back soon as there is so much more you would love 😊
a lot of Italians left Italy because of the world wars. A lot emigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina where i am living and they went to many other places too, including Scotland. Remember Lena Zavaroni from a Scottish island who won Opportunity Knocks many moons ago. love and light
The Italian pow’s we’re allowed to stay after ww2 and were prominent in Ayrshire and the surrounding areas. Sadly a lot of the Italian community fell foul of a Scarlet Fever outbreak and a lot of people lost their lives. Prestwick and Muirkirk in Ayrshire had a large community of these people and there presence is still seen in the numerous ice cream parlours in the areas.
You were in Dennistoun, fair play for walking it from the Trongate, us Scots know how to do a fried breakfast, that square sausage looked excellent, definitely from a butchers, same goes for a curry, Glasgow has some of the best Indian restaurants in the UK.
The first Italian immigrants arrived in Scotland in the 1890s. In the early days, many found work selling Catholic statues in the growing Catholic communities across the country. By 1914, the Italians dominated the café trade in the West of Scotland - and were at the forefront of popularising the fish supper.28 Feb 2019
Dennistoun has been up cycling for years. A great area for a bite to eat. Italians came as prisoners of war. Made ice creme and married the girls. Glasgow kiss does exist but it’s not a dangerous city. Very friendly.
I’m from Glasgow found this today. You left the city and walked into an area called Dennistoun which is the number 1 place in west Scotland to live. Well the Glasgow kiss originated because Glaswegians in a fight would use the Glasgow kiss. Us Glaswegians are a friendly bunch that’s why tartan army is loved all over the world
It has been gentrified somewhat but no way Jose it is the #No 1 place to live in Glasgow never mind the west coast of Scotland. Lewis Capaldi comes from there as an example. Used to get the number 6 bus through it to change to another to go to Southside but never liked waiting on the bus in Duke Street, it was scary at night!
Talking about the see you Jimmy thing. One of my brothers hated the Dwarf character from The Hobbit Five Armies movie voiced ny Billy Connolly. He had red hair and you might remember in the end battle he rode around headbutting people in a see you Jimmy sort of way. My brother said that was stereotyping Scots. And he had a point 🙂
Just one last comment from me is I hope you went to a butcher and got yourself some square sausage/Lorne sausage and potato scones. I have a few family members in London and when they come up to Glasgow they always have potato scones and lorne sausage packed along with Plain bread. So glad you enjoyed Glasgow👍
That does look a good breakfast. I’m in Glasgow in May, definitely going to give it a try. Got to say, the amount of good restaurants and cafes in Glasgow is huge. Glaswegians are definitely spoilt when it comes to eating out. The Italians know how to do hospitality. Love La Vita in the centre of town for an Italian meal.
Lee, Coias Cafe is in Denniston which is just outside the City Centre - Glasgow is a good size, made up of the city centre then outlying districts, and Coias have been there for about a hundred years and are quality - like other Italian Familys who came to Scotland last century - Equi’s are another - in the outskirts of Glasgow - superb fish and Chips and the best Ice Cream, but Coia’s are fanatastic to have a meal in, and enjoy the place - lorne sausage, are split into two types - Most call them lorne, some are called - Steak Slice , just better quality meat, not the cheap frozen ones you can buy that are full of crap and low quality meat.
Love this place many memories of visiting with my parents, looks as though it hasn’t changed, love the Glasgow banter! You took one helluva odd route to get there though!
British pounds LEE, we take money from the four nations whereas we struggle in England to hand over Scottish money, well apart from places like Newcastle and Liverpool.
Couple of interesting facts about Dennistoun for ye Lee There's a statue of Buffalo Bill there (he did some wild west shows there) and it's where Lulu comes from There ye go 😁
I visited Coia's Cafe September 2021 with friends loved the scrambled eggs and salmon with toast and jam, I appreciate your good feedback on our best restaurants in Glasgow, it really promotes our city well and from a Glaswegian thanks very much. 😊🍳
Coias was originally in the small unit with a single door entrance onto the Duke street took over the corner shop and extended their shop into it and later built the new build flats above .
at one time when I was a kid every cafe and mean every cafe was Italian I attended school a hundred metres from Coias on duke st dennistoun in the sixties its been there from the 1920s its the east end of glasgow from the high st and is britains longest st
I was there last week, outstanding breakfast and service. Even the toast was fantastic. I had two poached eggs added instead of one fried, perfectly done. Best Breakfast I’ve had in the UK. It was only about £11 which included tea.
Hi lee great seeing you enjoyed Scotland again. Next time your up I’d recommend you head to dunfermline and try dhoom Indian streatery. They will blow you away with the food and uniquely styled swing tables and tuktuk seats. Top class staff you will love it
Glasgow and Italy go way back! Fleeing the famine and poverty catalysed by Italy's reunification, the 1890s saw a large emigration of Italians to Glasgow. I went to Glasgow to watch Russell Brand the people were amazing, so nice I've been back a few times now . Nice drive from Yorkshire too.
Welcome to Glasgow anytime Lee 👍
Glad that Glasgow did not disappoint. ❤ Glasgow.
Can't believe people are complaining about £12 for a Breakfast, toast & Coffee.
12 years spent living in Glasgow great city to live/visit. The university cafe 😍
Our people and the food make up for the lousy weather. Glad you enjoyed the city.
I was at Coia's this morning, first time there. Fabulous food and service. All very reasonably priced as well. Well recommended.

Love Lorne sausages.

Good to see you enjoyed your breakfast in Glasgow, being Glaswegian I'm chuffed that you said it could be the best breakfast you have had, 🏴👍

They must have been pretty bloody desperate if they fled to Scotland I'm sure they received a warm welcome from the natives
I thought it stemmed from Italian prisoners of war who never went home. Instead deciding to settle in Scotland
When McMaster says its the best it's the greatest what a legend 🙌
