Dr Chaffee’s encouragement to get rid of 100% of plants is a great idea. I’m 61 and I get up every day this week and run 10 miles and eat only beef and eggs. I quit coffee9 months ago. I feel great.

@@SteakmanTexas good way to think of it IMO. One of the best feelings I had was when I could be more spontaneous with my life because I had quit smoking cigarettes. I lived a few houses from a park, but I couldn't go from playing in the yard with the kids to walking down to the park without making sure I had a pack of cigarettes with me. Love the freedom and knowing that during a zombie apocalypse I won't die from not having a certain substance.

though its a known fact that across the population an increase triglycerides from say 80 to 120 is an increase in risk, it is not a known fact that among healthy people who have the same trig increase due to nothing but coffee intake, that such an increase represents an increase in risk. About 95% carnivore but love my coffee. A pleasure that I have no intention of giving up and especially enjoy the social side of meeting for coffees with friends etc. On occasions due to travelling etc I go without it with no issues. Also can enjoy it late at night and sleep like a baby. We all have different detox abilities for different toxins and the modern world exposes us daily to many most of which are much less enjoyable and potentially more harmful. We all have to live our lives and make choices on these issues and keep some perspective. My 3 coffee a day habit probably less significant to my health than my days as a carb guzzling low fat junkie! *you can just stop drinking it *
That shows the mental strength attitude & fortitude . Yes , it’s truly that simple , but NOT easy . I quit smoking in. July 2019 & all I did was just STOP . It was hard for the first few days .
    4.5 yrs later …I haven’t lit a single cigarette .
I clung harder to my coffee as I also quit sugar , junk food , bad habits , night snacking , so I lie to myself and say this is all I have left it’s my mind lying to me .
I’m currently on half caff strictly before noon only . Been on coffe since my aunt used to take me to work at Dunkin’ Donuts back when they wore skirts & had glass mugs .

I never understand why some people, including Dr. Chaffee, insist that coffee tastes bad! I easily gave up caffeinated coffee because I drink it for the flavor, not the caffeine. • @anthonychaffeemd
      @anthonychaffeemd  ปีที่แล้ว +30

Of course taste is subjective, and some people enjoy the taste of coffee certainly. It's usually an acquired taste though, as it's generally quite bitter, which most people don't like at first. But if you like it and don't feel a difference in your health and by all means go for it!

I still drink decaf coffee as well, I tend to lean toward the most full-bodied coffees at that. I wonder if I quit and came back if I'd still enjoy it. I used to drink alcohol pretty regularly in my 20s and would have to do beer tastings for work and pick out the different notes and after not drinking for 4 years I can't stand the taste of it and I think they all taste the same. 🤔

@@j.p.8305 Tastes do change. Sometimes I wonder if it's more psychological than physiological. When I was vegetarian, I made elaborate salads that tasted delicious to me, pairing salty with sweet, making homemade dressing and croutons, etc. Now I'm mostly carnivore and don't even miss them, but only because I believe they aren't healthy. She ate The standard American diet and got a blockage from eating too much fiber. They had to go in to remove the blockage and at that time septis got into her whole body and she died. So fiber is deadly.

I'm not a heavy coffee drinker so I really don't rely on it to get me through the day. I've not noticed any stiffness or soreness whether I am drinking it or not. As far as bitter? Well that really depends on the type of coffee and how you make it. I had a great cup in Portland and talked to the shop owner about their process which allowed me to dial in my process where it's never bitter. It's all a personal choice. If coffee makes you feel bad then don't drink it. That being said I've taken some time off from my morning coffee to see how it affects my next blood panel so maybe that will make me rethink how much I drink. Now giving up alcohol really made an impact on how I feel in general so staying away from that is very noticeable.

The concept - clearly established through Weston Price's research - of 'NOT ONE DIET FOR ALL', also makes good sense... Some really do better when consuming more animal products. Others though, do better on a predominantly plant based diet, while there also are those of us who thrive on a mixed, balanced diet.
Also, in principle: Would it not be best for one to become metabolically flexible, with the ability to fluctuate between burning ketones and glucose for energy?

Recently I decided I wanted to focus more on hypertrophy and developed a crazy meso-cycle that I literally couldn't even complete the first week because it had me lifting muscle groups 2x a week and the volume was just too high to recover. I started carnivore about a week ago and decided to restart my cycle and to my amazement I was recovering literally twice as fast. Still had DOMS, but it was nowhere near what I had on a low carb (plant/fruit) keto diet. That's after just one week lol, the best thing is though now I can get my calories in without eating all day and it tastes so much better and is faster to cook. My protein intake is so high now I am actually able to skip protein supplements. I admit, giving up coffee is going to be hard for me as I was raised on it (from Seattle and it was the original pre-workout), but I am willing to do so if I don't need it.

Ingesting limited quantities of bitter substances (including bitter coffee) is one way to stimulate the Vagus nerve, and in time upregulate Vagal tone, towards better balance between sympathetic- and parasympathetic nervous system function (as is discussed by Tony Grandov on YT). There also are many other methods towards achieving this (including Cold Exposure accompanied by Deep Breathing, and doing Coffee Enemas).
CE is also a helpful tool to use to rectify chronic constipation, and can be employed to inhibit pain. It stimulates liver function in general - including increased Glutathione production, and can assist in removing intrahepatic biliary gallstones from the liver and gallbladder. CE is a component included in Gerson therapy, as well as the Kelley&Gonzales protocol; for upregulation of detoxification from broken-down cancer tissue. CE was in fact included as healing modality in the Merck Manual until the 70's.

Just curious Louise~ Are "snags" sausages by chance? By "rump" do you mean beef rump roast? My experience w/coffee has been interesting as I've been a coffee drinker~ 2-4 a day~ for decades. I'm finding that has decreased to now just one coffee w/creamin the morning, & often I don't finish it. It has begun to make me feel anxious/sketchy, & is no longer appealing or desired. Time to simply give it up, in my case. Only water besides that, meat-based for 2 yrs, low carb for several more prior.
Also, never cared for eggs at all, & now I enjoy them several times a week. Interesting how the palate shifts. The longer I eat meat, (& animal products) the more I want only meat. The longer I drink only water, the more I want only water. *Also quit a 30 yr diet soda habit, which was at least 2 a day ...all that time~ errgghh. I feel pretty awful about what I fed my precious body all those years, thinking I was healthy w/all the low fat/high fiber/lean protein.

I’m guessing Louise being Aussie that she means sausages when using the slang term snags. Also having a rump is a rump steak in Australia ( & NZ & UK ) and is the same as a Sirloin Steak in the USA

Yesterday was my first day without coffee. Is this madness? I produce extreme amounts of histamine when under stress, and very little is needed to set me off. Under my calm demeanour a storm is always brewing. Will I be able today to handle the coffee smell in the house this morning and from my husband’s cup? As I lay still half asleep I contemplate the beginning of this day with very little hope and a cringe on my face. What else can I do to heal my histamine intolerance? I have tried everything I can think of without much success. Even eating a carnivore diet was such a challenge but I can proudly say that at least I conquered that hurdle and I have no more sweet cravings. Let’s hope I can manage the coffee as well.

That's amazing about the squats!!! I have always drank coffee and had muscle fatigue during workouts. But I've also fasted a lot and have done a similar experiment. For 2 months I ate normal/drank coffee and did 100 squats a day. I could do two sets of 50 comfortably before fatigue. Then I did a dry fast (no food or water) and kept doing the squats. Same results on day 1 and 2 but after day 3 (72 hours) I was able to do 444 squats IN A ROW without fatigue. I actually just stopped at 444 not because I was sore but because I was laughing so hard. Ok so now I'm 10 days into strict carnivore 0 carbs and I'm a bit weak from keto flu maybe? I feel better everyday but still haven't gone to the gym. Well I was still drinking coffee this whole 10 days too but today was my last cup. Now I'm curious to see if it really is keto flu or the nasty coffee and if I'll be at the gym soon cuz I miss working out!! I was only drinking it to go to the bathroom. I'll increase fats and see if that does it.

I quit coffee because it gave me a significant raise in high blood pressure also it's a plant. While I support a high-fat meat diet that doesn't mean you should ignore other health risks. To me balancing high LDL and blood pressure was obvious; combining high LDL, high blood pressure, and inflammation without management is courting cardiovascular issues if you ask me. I stopped primary caffeinated coffee last year. Only on the weekends when I'm off and decaf during the week. Of course for Christmas I got the Nespresso machine I wanted so badly. Then I started deep diving into Carnivore elimination diet and your take on coffee. I know it's a drug and have come off of it before and I can tell I'm an addict because in my mind I'm saying, "I'm not ready." So I am going to start the elimination diet and slowly wean off the coffee. I have a feeling you have the same take for herbal teas as well. Isn't it funny the things you cling to that hurt you? Thank you for being a part of doctors in the forefront bringing the truth to people. I heard about this from a GI doc that I work for that does this.
