Thanks. Learned something : soloing and accompanying are distinct concepts. Simple, but I never really thought about the implications. You opened up my understanding. Keep up the great work!

Good stuff, Sean. I'm trying to ween myself off rooting everything off the low E. Seeing you arpeggiate from the A string is very helpful.

I always learn something new in your videos Sean but this one helped me in particular. I’ve been obsessed with how to follow a chord progression effectively whilst improvising and how to outline chord tones - I guess an arpeggio is literally doing just that. I’m guessing the same principles apply to any chord progression provided it stays within the key?

Keys are just pitch of the MAJOR scale....It's only for REFERENCE
It's easier if i explain it in C MAJOR/A min....so the accidental note wont
      confuse you..
BASIC chords/triads are just EVERY OTHER NOTE...No matter the scale
      C, E, G, B, D, F, A,...They are what they are...You get what you get
      It just happens to be
      1, 4, 5 are MAJOR
      2 3, 6 are min
      7 is half diminished.
There's OTHER scales..aside natural min..Harmonic min or melodic min
But lets go to the BASIC.
      A min D min E min ( vi , ii, iii).
      A min D min E7 A Harmonic min ( aeo maj7)
      A, C, E, G#, B, D, F
........E, G#, B, D = E7......they are what they are,.. You get what you get.
      A min D7 E7 ( vi II III) Melodic min ( dorian ,maj7)
      A, C, E, G#, B, D, F# A C
      ........E, G#, B, D..................= E7
      ......................D, F#, A, C...= D7
      ..................B, D, F#, A = B min7
C Harmonic MAJOR ( ion b6 or the Ab)
      C, E, G, B, D, F, Ab, C...
      C Maj.....F min G7 into C Maj
.............F, Ab, C............................The are what they are
      A Harmonic min b2 ( phrygian Maj7)
      .............................= Bb lyd #6
      you could stack that chord
      1, 3, 5, 7
      1, 3, 5, #6
If you use A melodic min
      you simply get.....Bb, D, F# = Bb AUGMENTED
You could use Bb Lyd #2, #6
Thise way you could stack it
Bb min #6 ( which is the same as Bb min7.
      Bb7
      Bb dim
      A min Bb/D maj or aug......B min E7 into A min
A min Bb min Eb Min Ab min G7 into C MAJOR
A min Bb7 Eb min Gb Maj G7 into C Major
      A min Bb7 Eb Maj7 Ab min G7 into C Maj
      A min C Maj7 F min Db Maj7 G7 into C MAJOR
      A min C Maj F min Bb dim B min D maj7 G maj into C MAJOR..
      ......................F min Bbdim/F# B min E7 into A min
      A min Bb7 C7 into F min ( just pretend you shifted to F min/Ab Major
      Then.....F harmonic min...melodic min ..ect
      C Maj7 F min Dmaj7
C Maj7 F min Bb min or dim....C7 or Major
C Maj F min Bb dim into B min E7 into A min
      If you leave out chords...
      using F Harmonic min..as a guide
You could play..the Bb and Db as min or diminshed
      hence...tritone sub ( terms) from G7
      You could
      C Maj Db dim G7 into C Major...if you want ( that;s all)
Most people....knows it as the N6 chord to C MAJOR...
      Notice the Gb Major ????
      it could be F# min
Notice how I said you can alter N6 to dominant or aug.
      C Maj Db/C#7 into F# min G7 into C Major
it's the same as.........A min Bb7 into Eb maj7 or Eb min
alot of things over lap....the more scales you know or use.
it actaully EASIER to play music.
      example....you could
      A min Bb Maj7 C7 into F Maj/D min
...just pretend you did the sort of the same with B min E7 into A min
      A min Bbmaj7 F Maj7 D min G7 into C MAJOR
      or
      A min B7 into E Maj7 ( E Harmonic min or A lyd b3....G# phry b4
      A min G#7 into C# min D Maj7 B min E7 into A min
      A min Bb dim...C dim C# min D7 E7 into A min
      A min G#7 C# min D dim E7 into A min
      A min D dim E dim F min Bb dim D maj7 G7 into C MAJOR
      A min Bb7 C7 F Maj7 D min G7 into C Major
A min Bb maj7 G min C dim Db Maj7 Bb min Gb min G7 into C MAJOR.
USE the FRETBOARD to your ADVANTAGE...
Dont worry what keyboard players or SITE READERs can or CAN'T do.
It's EASIER to modulate to multiple KEYS and BACK on the fretboard..
especailly if you use MULTIPLE SCALES
IF you COMPREHEND it In C MAJOR/Amin....at first
You can play in ANY KEYS ( keys are just PITCH)
It's PHYSICALLY EASIER to DO on the FRETBOARD than the keyboard
player can play or site read..that is all..
example...a site reader would go apeshiet
while in C# min...as reference to play a simple C note
is it flatten.. C# note or sharpen B note..lmao

Stairway is a perfect example. Am G F. His phrasing bounces back and forth highlighting a and f. Targeting the chord notes of both. Sometimes hangin longer on one or the other. Sort of avoiding the 3rd of g mostly so it's kind of neutral letting the key possibly lean into C/Am or F/Dm creating a layer of tension..Some clever overlapping phrases that could be either f or a..like 5th position a minor hits the a then c then bends the g to an a. By skipping the f The two notes c And a are in both chords..triumphant..Brilliant. If you break it down he's really going back And forth between arpeggios pretty quick. Resolutions to a c e and f. D and G get bent up or used in passing.
