Remember you can ask Oatchi to sniff out treasure you're missing. This would have helped you find the potato and that missing treasure in the maze cave in Blosoming Arcadia.
Its funny, that was the first time I missed a treasure in a cave. After that I always have oatchi sniff. That and the potato in area1 each cost me another day.
26:35 I almost didn’t notice but I can’t believe Scruffy cut up the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme to be in tune with the bgm here, I’m in awe of the sheer dedication
Not to undersell how cool it is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was trivial for Scruffy to do. I’m always in awe of his musical knowledge. I only play one instrument, and sometimes I get a big head about my musical knowledge, but Scruffy humbles me every time.
Oh wow, something even I hadn't noticed until now, when it's near sunset, pikmin in danger will actually call out to you, which can be heard while Scruffy is admiring water at the end of the first day.
it hurt so much watching that last treasure in sst remain unfound while knowing oatchi literally had the ability to create a highlighted path right to it especially when he said "it's too late in the day to head over there" with "there" being it's location
It was really funny watching Scruffy hanging out near the creeping chrysanthemum, not knowing it was there. And I as a viewer don't have to be in charge of everything, so I can just watch it blinking and preparing for them to come into range.
Here's a tip for the idler's alert! If you activate it, and then leave the immediate area, any Pikmin that get there will immediately start doing any tasks near there. This huge boost to my dandori is the reason why I have a dedicated shortcut button for it.
I just adore that people are still enjoying pikmin 4, and that it wasnt a there then gone again popularity wave. I also love your perspective on the music, I remember your years old video on adaptive music in Pikmin games, that video had reignited my pikmin passion back then.
Hi scruffy, a quick tip here, the survey drone costs 10 raw material and while you're using it, it pauses the day, so the time doesn't pass also the treasure gauge is still active when being used, so with it you could prevent a "potato situation" from happening ever again! also great video!! im a huge fan of the work you do, and this pikmin series is a joy to watch!!!
Scruffy I want you to know how much I appreciate these videos. I look forward to them every other day. Your commentary is so chill and I love how you take it slow and savor the details. All of these have been a pleasure to watch and this 100-minute special is too good to be true! Thanks again
Scruffy, you may have already noticed by the time this released but each Pikmin type seems to have a different voice. Even red and blues have slightly different pitches or effects. It can be difficult to notice with other sounds going on, but in a controlled environment or in the sound files it seems like two different voices.
From what I've heard, reds and blues are the only ones that share a voice. Odds are all three of the original pikmin would have the same voice, but yellows have a higher one I think to fit their higher throw arc
I love that materials respawn so that even if you return for one or two things, you can leave with just a bit extra to make up for the sour feeling of poor dandori. As those materials will only help you unlock stuff faster, therefor IMPROVING your dandori. Stonks.
Fun fact: One thing I discovered is that the mitites not only are guaranteed to drop ultra spicy spray (and can easily be dispatched with a single purple) but the flint beetle always drops 19 raw material each time as well as the emperor bulblaxes dropping another 15-ish materials if they're defeated after they respawn, making this cave an excellent grinding spot for spray, raw material, and sparklium. If you just want to grind raw material however, just jump to floor, rush to the beetle, and by the time you're able to go over and pluck the rock pikmin beneath the shrub, everything will be transported back, making it incredibly fast for raw material and rock pikmin
Ok so, I've been following this playthrough and apart from Scruffy pointing out the musical quirks this game has, It surprises me how much Voices scruffy has for every single character here, And how he remembers to do them when talking to them, Makes this even more immersive, Props to scruffy!
quick tip: even if they are still in your party, pikmin that are not ice or blue will stay on the water's shoreline. sometimes they are stupid though and end up falling in anyway. you can also just ride oatchi with the pikmin on his back and just throw the blues.
Don't stress too much about the buried treasures, the game doesn't really tell you about them so I think a lot of people (myself included) ended up missing them. You're still a dandori master to me :)
requirement at the end of this series: a line graph showing episode run time by progress also 26:33 bruh the fact you edited the song to match the bgm was so extra but i love you for it editing my comment instead of double posting: the rock pikmin have this texture that looks like fingerprints on clay or a firm putty and its very nostalgic; reminds me of middle and high school art class
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that missed the pota- I mean the child of the earth on the first area for a bit, though instead of using the treasure guage I used Oachi's smell to find it. Keep up the good work! And give Oachi some belly rubs if Shepherd won't
Scruffy, you should change the Disband All shortcut to just Disband, which disbands all types except for the one you’re selecting. If you still want to disband all you can press it twice which takes less time then disbanding all and whistling a type
You can also walk directly into a body of water with a mixed squad of pikmin and the ones that can’t cross water will stop at the shore instead of following you.
Love these longer videos a lot! I look forward to every single one. It’s delightful to hear the commentary on the music and have a more slow paced play-through. The voices on the characters are all so good and have so much charm.
Hello! I don’t know if all of these are pre-recorded, but I would recommend upgrading oatchi’s carrying capacity as fast as possible! It becomes very useful and is a major boost in dandori challenges.
One edit is all it took to change an instance of dramatic irony from painful to funny. I'm impressed. 1:04:51 Spicy Sprays are just that easy to come by, so there is really no reason to be conservative with them (though I don't remember getting this many all at once like this)
I think by part 8 i've finally realized why this is like my favorite thing to watch right now despite not really watching lets plays anymore. it's probably because you're a very enjoyable person to listen to, there's no negative vibes or focus on anything other than enjoying a game and it's design (specifically music). i've tried to watch other people play this and they just all seem so much less enjoyable by comparison, complaining about everything and bringing up random uninteresting topics from current news or pop culture. not that it's something you can't do, but with the way others do it is with just too much cynicism.
I just thought of a mod in which the Pikmin were Pinkman, and the captain was Mr. White, and his whistle made the sound "JESSIEEEE" when he calls the Pinkman.

I literally get SO excited seeing these new episodes! Your enthusiasm and love of this series makes me appreciate so much more of this game than I did playing through it myself. Can't want for you to get through more of it! (also ngl until now watching your playthrough I had somehow made it through my own game thinking Yonny was a girl..... somehow 😂)
I was one of the people that decided to 100% sunspeckled terrace in the demo before the game released, because it is possible, just a little finicky, though honestly i don't think it was all that worth it, like it was a fun challenge, but the bonus you get for transferring your save from the demo to the final game is just 2 or 3 bomb rocks or something, had i known that i would've just started a new save in the final game, the demo made it seem like the reward for transferring your save was much greater, aside from being able to continue from where you left off.
The rock pikmin intro is my favorite. Look at em roll! I found that they are the absolute best to use with Oatchi Rush. A group of twenty can deal so much damage alone. I've also noticed that the boss theme for certain creatures, like ol' Emperor Bulblax, is actually the same theme with a different, I guess instrument at the front? I guess after this you can find the themes of the bosses and compare them to notice
In this episode, Scruffy once again DOES NOT forget that Oatchi can sniff out treasures and certainly DOES NOT lose any pikmin. As much as Scruffy's playthrough is focused on enjoying the beautiful scenery and all the subtle details, Scruffy simply has too much dandori and couldn't manage to make any mistakes.
I love how well the game balances your captain and Oatchi. Obviously you can make Oatchi better via the tree, but there are some things that Oatchi will never be able to do- for example, the Rush Horn is off the table! And of course, that means there are some things that you can only do together.
The end of day theme playing in the style of curb your enthusiasm (done from scratch no less) is something that I garuntee only a Scruffy lets play would have
Oatchi can do more than just Sniff out treasures! He can also sniff out Raw Materials, find Dandori Battles, Dandori Challenges, even find a specific type of WILD pikmin inside caves. Also get the Survey Drone it's 10 Raw material and pauses time while you look around anywhere. Hint: the crosshair in drone mode is linked to the Treasure Tracker!
Also found out that when you pick "Auto" when choosing pikmin only ever gives an even split between the recommended type of Pikmin, if you need 30 Ice pikmin to freeze a pond but can only take out 60 max then it will only take out 20 Ice Pikmin.
Scruffy forgetting about oatchi's smell ability once again lol. Just the type of content I love. Seriously I'm LOVING these pikmin series and almost 2 hours!!1 LOVE IT. keep it coming.
Ngl, the “hello” at the beginning of each episode always warms my heart
Yess it's somehow the most wholesome "hello" I have ever heard in my life
My gf overheard the video and she said his voice gave her the same heartwarming feeling as old stampylonghead intros and that hit me so hard
@@p_daddy8764omg,,♡
Even when reacting to stressful or dangerous situations in this game, there's a real steadiness to his voice. It's very soothing.
I was thinking the same thing!
“My dandori levels are plummeting.” -Scruffy

Remember you can ask Oatchi to sniff out treasure you're missing. This would have helped you find the potato and that missing treasure in the maze cave in Blosoming Arcadia.
Too easy, you need to scout every inch of the map with only the treasure gauge

the best series playing through pikmin 4 i've seen since launch, i hope this goes on for one thousand episodes
