      That's true professionalism. When Asus does great you say great thing about their product and when they suck you say that too. I expect nothing less from you. Great review! I didn't expect somewhat "conventional " cooler to work out so well. Only concern I have is long term price after initial month coz I heard rumors that Nvidia is giving some extra money to partners for sells of first month. But that could be completely false. Hey if availability gets good and price stay 700 that is not bad buy actually.
      Although personally I'd still wait to see what AMD has to offer if I were to buy GPU this generation ( which I won't ).

    • @ceb1970

      I live along the Pacific ocean and corrosion is a real factor. However, I have noticed that it is far less of a problem if I leave my electronics on at all times. I guess the heat prevents any moisture from gathering.
      All this said, I've never noticed any rust on any IO brackets.

      They were always bottom of the barrel, the old P67 and Z77 Sabertooth used less than optimal parts which they then hid under the plastic shield(Which btw didn't work). What's more the Z77 Sabertooth had a nasty tendency to fry your ram, or just die randomly.

    15C lower temps compared Nvidia's cooler??? What the .... and it's only the TUF, so it's not even a high end aftermarket model. Now I wonder - did Nvidia overhype their "new" FE cooler design?

    • @haukionkannel

      Online Gamer the FE edition push part of the hot air out of the case. This put all the hot air to the case. So smaller case benefit from FE... big or open case can manage this!

    • @quintoblanco8746
      @quintoblanco8746 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a bigger card and it has an extra fan. Plus the lower temperature doesn't achieve anything in terms of performance. It's good to see a lower temperature though and the TUF looks good, so it's certainly a good alternative to to the FE.

    • @resColts
      @resColts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@quintoblanco8746 yes it does....he even says in video up to 6% faster. What happens with nvidia cards is at a certain temperature like 48 or 50C they start dropping core clock by 15mhz every 5C. See here www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-founders-edition/39.html setting fixed GPU clock/volt on my 2080 if it doesn't stay below 45C-48C temp it starts to drop seems to depend on amount of voltage(max voltage will see it dropping the earliest) its going to keep the Core Clock it is fixed at. Lets say its 2040mhz while at 70C its going to be 1965mhz or 1980mhz. Obviously 2040mhz leads to more performance over 1965/1980mhz...Also thermal throttle clock 76C or getting pretty close to that 83 where it will forced GPU down to baseclock speed 63C ain't coming close to that.

    • @quintoblanco8746

      @@resColts This is the factory overclocked version (which is slightly more expensive). A 4% to 6% difference in framerate is in line with a small overclock plus slightly better cooling. How much power does ur card pull?
      Ive noticed on my 10gb 3080 TUF Gaming OC, the stock power limit at 100% will draw 340w under load, upon increasing this to 110%, the max wattage should be 370w, just like the FE when the FE is raised to 115% power limit. Although my 3080 tuf, when raised, caps at 350w, and GPU Z tells me there is a power limit, the power limit % maxes out at around 103% by GPU Z and it doesnt consume the full 370w like the FE does, even though they are both 2 8 pin cards. This is really annoying and I expected a AIB card to draw the same or more than the FE. This is stopping me from achieving 2000mhz stable under load, its usually low 1900s because of this. I am on the latest V5 bios.

      You don't really need that as it is not too difficult to extrapolate. 3440x1440 has roughly 5 million pixels whereas 2560x1440 has about 3.5 million and 4k resolution has about 8 million. So you can expect performance gains in UWQHD to be better than those in QHD on average but not as good as the 4k gains. It will be closer to QHD.

    the part that you may not be aware of with this card is that when you look at the backing plate view there is the 6 exposed gold chips sets exposed that control the power requirement. On the card are using all of the higher quality type.
    The foundation model only has 2 sets of high quality and 4 of the cheaper type sets. I say this due to just finished watching on another tech website on youtube that stated that some of the manufacturers are using all of the cheaper sets to control the power requirement of their cards which is apparently leading to issues while overclocking

    • @4450krank
      @4450krank 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      not just overclocking, legit if the card boost clocks it crashes, and it will boost by it self if it has the power and low enough heat, so this and the FE are pretty much the only working cards atm.

    This seems like the best 3080 (so far) due to 2:29. TUF card being the only card (that i know of) that didn't cheap out on the capacitors. There has been many GPUs crashing and the reason is possibly due to AIB partners cheaping out on the capacitors and using SP-CAP instead of MLCC (which the TUF has every single transistor as MLCC)

    The biggest give away that *this is actually just a commercial for an Asus product* .....not a single mention of minimum/maximum power consumption numbers, OR comparisons of power draw with FE(!).
    Also, about a month ago, Hardware Unboxed did a comparison between B550 motherboards, where the MSI boards were all noticeably ahead with better temperatures. Remember, we all don't get to see the actual results being gathered in real-time. Hardware Unboxed can literally change the numbers in the slides to whatever they like to necessitate making one brand look better than another ....viewers aren't going to know. We really are meant to trust them? Everyone is human!
    Surprise surprise, now we see MSI sponsoring videos here like this one. As Gamers Nexus said, this is how the industry works.
    But seriously.....look at this painfully obvious advertisement for Asus' card. This whole review had not a single negative thing to say about this Asus card, showing it in nothing but positive light. This is how commercials work. Positives positives positives, only talk about the positives!
    geezus. ...didn't even talk about min/max power consumption! xD Hardware Unboxed ...keep this up, soon you will become unbox therapy ..... (who is biggest $hill of them all)!

    I like that it uses 6 MLCCs instead of all POSCAPs. Good review. Sad that there isn't more headroom but that's been the case with a lot of the 3080s. I think driver optimization will probably open it up a little though.

    Did you just adjust the switch on the card from quiet to performance or did you increase power target here?

      He doesn't say but it was most likely a manual overclock. The quiet modes are basically not considered in most review testing.

    Pease chime in if you got a 3080 on launch day! I missed out for some reason. Was up at the release time and stock went from coming soon to sold out. Nothing in between. My guess it’ll be months before anyone gets one at retail. It’s sick

      I've yet to hear anyone who has managed to get a FE in the UK apart from bot scalpers. Don't feel bad if you couldn't get one because there's literally nothing you could have done. Just settle for an AIB as they will continue to release stock throughout the coming weeks.

    I got a Asus RTX 3080 TuF for X-mas... Finally got around to getting it running. All I can say is WoW! I read the reviews and watched the vids on it. It is a very capable without any Super or Ti attachted to the name. It absolutely crushes my RTX 2070, which is a awesome card to begin with. MSFS 2020 @ Ultra, 2K res and flying over London and New York I'm getting 45-60FPS. Most others like the RTX 2070 will put out 8-15FPS. Sure I'm getting 30-45FPS now BUT on medium-high settings and 1080p. Also, the 3080 can certainly handle VR and pretty much anything else one can throw @ it. IMHO it's a great card even the FE version and I'm sure so is the MSI, Gigabit, EVGA versions as well. If one can afford it and is a Simmer/Gamer, then don't hesitate and grab one... or 2💖
