  • how to make a mobile signal booster at home? This video is about building and testing a home made Mobile Signal booster. Overall cost of used material should not be more than 350 to 500 Rs. (5 to 7 USD).
    #Read the Warning at end#
    Video has following sections:
    1. Problem and the solution description: Talks about lack of mobile signal and how it can be solved using a Yagi-Uda Antena.
    Design Sheet as used in the video: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
    drive.google.com/file/d/1DXqc...
    www.tutorialspoint.com/antenn...
    2 Build and mount : This a demo of how I constructed my antenna for home use
    3 Test and results: The the mobile signal booster antena and cable are put to test in a basement where there is very poor signal usually. With this setup there is a gain of around 28dbm. Which is pretty amazing for such a low cost home made antena. This helps in acheving very good and reliable signal.
    4 Conclusion: Summary of the use cases where this may be useful.
    #### BYOD may also mean :- Build your own device :) #####
    ::Warning::
    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
    Conductive material and antena on rooftop could act as a path for lightenning to reach your devices and damage it permanently. Avoid using during rain/thunder.

    Sie, you are one of the few youtubers in India who is legit and work hard for your projects. You have all my respect and admiration. I was looking for a signal booster for my engineering project. Not only you made it really a fun task to perform, but also explained the things really nicely. Plus, the music was soothing, unlike that of the others who add EDM which makes it quite annoying. Hi, I see that the boom is not metal, thus there is not an electrical connecrion between the different parts of the antenna. I have seen otger videos of aimilar antennas and they use a metal rod as a boom,to where the other partsare welded. Couldyou please explain why this is nornecessary in your antenna?
    Thanks a lot for the video!

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally the boom should not have connections to the Elements otherwise the response of the Antenna will deviate from the intended frequency. Usually there are corrections needed if the boom is conductive and touches the elements.
      See more details Here: Yagi Antenna Insulated Elements Boom Correction: www.qsl.net/yu1aw/Misc/Yagi_boom_insul_corr.pdf#:~:text=Theoretically%20and%20practically%2C%20a%20Yagi%20antenna%20can%20work,antenna%20can%20be%20built%20in%20a%20few%20ways.

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Z Rose's
      With Modem, I believe, you mean to say an LTE Hotspot device. If yes, the the answer is yes. It should work fine with that. On other end just try to put your device with different orientations to find location of your device antenna.
      Two antenna, with a physical separation in mounting location should give better results. (This is called receiver diversity gain)
      If it is not possible to mount far apart, you can also put the two antennas on same location with polarization diversity. Mount one parallel to ground and the other one perpendicular on side.
      Hope that helps!

    I tried it several times, every time its getting fail to catch any signal.. mobile not responding with antenna or without antenna there is no change in netwrok strength.
    There are trees surroundings to my house. But at the terrace of my house there is BSNL 3G network of 2 to 3 bars.whether the singal tower must visible or simply 2 to 3 bar is enough. Every time I was pointing the antenna towards singal tower. But there are trees surroundings... Plz guide...

    THANK YOU Sir. The video was very helpful for me . The best part is that i made the antenna free of cost . I had a old power cable at my house from which i extracted the aluminium wire from it ...... Previously downloading speed was less than 2 Mbps and now i am getting average speed of 7-9 Mbps .
    So thanks again .

    Hello, outstanding video, very informative, well executed. Worth subscribing to. Please, some questions, if I may: As per your recommendation to dial on a Samsung phone *#0011#, in my case, 850, 1900 Mhz. Do operators change frequency when the signal downgrades to 3G, 2G? Would the Yagi required still be 1900? Can you recommend a booster (plug in type) and in house antenna? If the wire calculated by f/C/lambda x 0.0085 is 1.3mm, why do commercial yagis have elements (aluminum) that have 5 to 10 mm? Is it less optimum? I look forward to your videos. Thank you. Gustavo in Caracas

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Gustavo,
      First of all, thanks for your encouraging words!
      Operators do exercise load balancing strategies based on both signal quality and load (number of users in a particular cell/technology). So chances are, that a mobile phone may switch to another frequency band/technology while in use/connected.
      When connected in a particular frequency band, antenna will perform better if designed to that particular (currently connected) band's dimensions.
      Regarding those 10 mm sized elements: Usually, those sizes are for hollow pipes. Thickness of the metal will be typically between 1 to 3 mm range. What do you think?
      regards

    hello sir, really great to watch your video but i have one doubt i have three different sims airtel , jio, vodafone. i was checking the frequency of all three different sims. jio was 850 inside home and outside home 1800 and 2300. airtel was 1800 and 2300. idea was 1800, 2300 , 2500. so im bit confused which frequency i should use.

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      Usually lower frequencies have better penetration. So 850MHz will give you better coverage without the antenna also. I'd recommend you go with 1800Mhz as that's a common frequency for all your SIMs

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  ปีที่แล้ว

      No unfortunately!
      For that we need to amplify the signal before it can be radiated again. Which is complicated, costly and illegal (Unless we have an approved RF Device).

    Great Video and excellent Design Spreadsheets!!! Thank you. Can you let me know how to have more or fewer Directors and their spacing and width? I was thinking 7 or 8 directors. Also, If you put another antenna at the Cell phone end of the coax could you have a little more mobility to walk around your office?

    • @GeekyAndTweaky
      @GeekyAndTweaky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rudi,
      Thanks!
      You can find a table on this page which lists gains expected from yagi antennas with different number of directors (up to 15). You'll see that the increase in gain with every additional director is a diminishing value.
      www.antenna-theory.com/antennas/travelling/yagi3.php
      In last row of the table you'll find how to calculate the separation between the directors for different designs as a function of the Wavelength.
      Putting another antenna on the other end didn't work for me. Despite the gain, the signal is still too weak to be radiated again effectively towards the mobile.
      I think mobility won't be possible with this kind of passive antenna. We need an active booster fir that.
      Hope this helps!
      Regards
      G&T

      @@GeekyAndTweaky Thank you so much. The second spreadsheet is great too. I will be putting the receiving Antenna about 25M up on top of a tree. Coax is RG11 75 Ohm, runs down tree about 15M...Then per your recommendation, I will put the "S" contact antenna next to my signal booster that spends signal to house. I'm out in the country. Up in the tree my phone gets 2 to 3 bars. But no bars at the bottom of tree. I get LTE band 66. (1710-1780Mhz up and 2110-2200 down). So I'm going to design a yagi centered between at 1950Mhz or try a dual-band antenna with directors on top of a non-conducting boom centered at 1725Mhz and Directors under centered at 2150Mhz.. Any suggestions or thoughts?
