    When I saw it was Carthic that was going to help, I did not know how he would do since he is used to manicuring lawns and that is not even close tp an option with the awns you do on here, but he was a champ. I would hate to see the inside of the house after seeing the outside (glimpses thru doors seems to indicate that it is just as bad - if not worse - inside). You are brave men to take that on.

Can’t help but think, aren’t there any free waste removal businesses who want some publicity and who could remove waste such as in the yard of this house? If you can do it once a week there must be someone who can remove waste! Things can get out of hand for the elderly, disabled or ill people. Shout out to local waste removal business to help! 🤗🇦🇺

    I'm glad your detail-minded friend was willing to come help. Already you are refinding landscaping features. ( Have been watching the "runner" problem for a while. So far, what might help would possibly be "dethatching machines", which seem to work by using a bunch of small blades/knives to cut things up. Maybe some are available for rental, once basic mowing height is re-established.) With the front bed dimensions re-appearing, along the house, I was comparing the shrub diameter...they sure are past bounds at this point. At 12:30, between the two of you you restored order in that one small side overgrown section. Quite an accomplishment. When that grass gets out-of-hand it is something. With all the rain you had for months, I'll bet some people never got a real change to mow. I remember Sean cutting something like five levels of mowing, criss-crossing on bad lawns. As many tough places you've included us on, that one is a workout. (One good thing, you have a patch cleared for the small dog to be able to get around in...) And we now have a "new standard" we can agree on, a "brown lawn is a good lawn" after disaster mowing.

    They need to invent a regular push mower with an upturned rake welded onto the front, to lift that grass before it cuts. That's alot of work. Bad grass. Nice job!

    • @allanmck
      @allanmck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually a mower is supposed to raise the grass by air force as the blades swirl over the top of it lifting it to be cut evenly. Kikuyu of course is having none of that and will stubornly lay there in defiance (it's heavier than other grasses).
      But I like your thinking on a practical solution. It'd have to be some sort of cutter as a rake would jam in seconds. You'd just lock the front of the mower into a bind even if it was self propelled. I regularly crash my mower to a dead stop by hitting a small bump and launching into a thick patch of kikuyu just on 3 weekly cuts. The engine stops spinning instantly it's that strong! (Tip: don't do that. It's really bad for the crank shaft.)

      I used to run a garden business and I couldn't make money at the prices I used to charge for low income folks.
      Professional rates as at 2022 should be $75-$100 per hour for basic level services. I used to charge $15-20, only 15 years ago.
      A plumber currently is a $100 call out fee just for $30 minutes only.
      Prices and money are relative to your budget and cash flow. 💸 💰

    You guys do good for whatever that vegetation is. It doesn't actually look like grass, but I guess it is in that area. Thumbs Up!

    Poison the lot. Wait 3-4 weeks till its dead and dry then smash it out. That looked brutal. Good effort fellas!

      @allanmck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They'd still have the same problem. The runners are sitting under where the mower can get to them even if it was dead. Besides, the grass itself is fine it's just too tall.

    Love the funny intro! Y’all have some crazy grass there in Australia. If it’s kept mowed it will be thick and green? Y’all do good work. - watching from Lake Wales, Florida

      Small time Kiwi mower here. Thing is you need the right gear to tackle something like this lawn and it isn't cheap. Plus disposal costs. Plus the actual physical effort required. I've considered trying it but I really think it'd kill my old mower - which funnily enough is Australian (love the old Rovers).

    That utility mower is a beast! Does Carthic find the overgrown yards overwhelming? I imagine he would need to change from his usual techniques.

    How about after the first pass with the mower if you use the edger on the back yard making a criss cross pattern to cut the long strands of kikuyu grass and then mow?

    Are there any old unkept cemeteries you could mow there? I like to see them taken care of.
