  • Bill shows you how to install a Front Mount Intercooler Kit on your 2013-2016 Focus ST.
    Cooler air means more horsepower, and with a new Front Mount Intercooler from COBB, your 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 Focus ST will be running at its best! Even when stock, your factory intercooler can be overwhelmed with heatsoak that reduces horsepower. COBB designed their new Front Mount Intercooler using a 57 percent larger core with streamlined piping, resulting in charge air that is up to 100 degrees cooler.
    After removing the grille shutters and drilling 2 simple holes, the COBB Front Mount Intercooler requires no other modifications for an easy installation with the included necessary hardware and custom black silicone adapters.
    Please Note: Intended for North American 2013-2014 Focus ST (USDM) fitment only.

    I may be mistaken but seeing the dirt fall out when removing the panels tells me you guys didn't loosen everything up and/or take multiple takes. That's ... honest and made for a better video. Can't believe I'm just now getting into the FoST world (didn't know about them until I bought one a few days ago). Can't way to see what's incoming for this thing.

    I installed one half of yesterday and all of today. It’s somewhat a pain in the ass. I set a time frame to finish by and installed a snorkel,(that was a pain in the ass). Bill from CJ Pony Parts is very helpful I watched the video like 75 times. Cobb gives you no instructions and Bill can’t stand around holding our hand. Don’t use the dimple. Mock up before hand resting on and lining up with the radiator support holes then drill. I was a half inch high on the dimple. I used the grommets thinking that’s what they are for and no. The long charge pipe doesn’t hook up like the stock. That’s what the grommets are for. With the long little bolts. The radiator frame not only need to drop down but needs to move out of the way, but fairly easy to do. Bill is spot on. Watch the video multi times. So helpful. If you put a snorkel on, the rubber dell e o’s. Come of the two pipes coming out of the air box is a total pain. Just a couple things I had to deal with. It a chore

    @15:08 the rubber shroud keeps getting sucked into itself on the freeway. Is there a better way to attach it? I probably have to pull the whole bumper off again, but I don't want to do it a 3rd time. Any tips for securing it better would be great! (I've tried to shove the bottom lip down already and it just sucks itself back up)

    Can you guys tell me why it is so difficult to remove and replace my radiator fan on my ST? I don’t want to remove half the front of the darn car to do it. Pulling the fan loose of the 4 clips on the sides of the radiator is a 2 minute affair. But they won’t come fully off the clips due to the metal bumper/frame support bar that has the headlights and top cover over radiator and hood latch attached.

      The stock intercooler is like the top of the list for mods according to a majority of owners who mod their cars. The stock one affects your car pretty bad. The bottle neck is as follows.
      First the intercooler, then the turbo, then the exhaust and the intake. So in other words intercooler is first priority even on an otherwise bone stock car.

    Ok so I need a Legit answer here!! WHY would anyone wanna go through all of that work when you can buy a different brand FMIC that practically boots right in to factory position?! Can someone answer?

    • @cjponyparts
      @cjponyparts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cobb is one of the most reputable companies in the turbo industry. Because of the size of the cooler the install is a little more involved but it works really well.

    • @afout07
      @afout07 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't really gain any horsepower or torque... This is to support other mods that do increase power. The factory intercooler can only handle so much.

    Drilling into this beam shouldn't take that long with the quality bits that come in the kit. The key to drilling through hardened steel is slow and steady with a good lubricant. Don't just force the bit through at the highest speed the drill will go. As someone who has installed this kit 10+ times, I can drill through the beam easily in under 10 minutes with a basic 18V cordless. Get some Tap Magic or other quality drilling/tapping lubricant and you'll thank me later!

    • @erichficker1435
      @erichficker1435 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan, absolutely right. It amazes me how many people do not know how to use a drill. Did mine last night, first time. Took 15 min of drilling including setup and cleanup. Used some cutting oil with adequate pressure on lowest drill speed about 30% trigger pull on a dewalt 18v. Easy.

    • @george4557
      @george4557 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan Goldberg I should have read your comment before trying to drill these holes.
      Been at it for a few hours now haven't gotten either of them through. I turned the drill up all the way and pushed on it as hard as I could.
      I think I wrecked the bit that came with the kit. Will 3in 1 dry lube work? I couldn't find any tapping oil.

    • @erichficker1435
      @erichficker1435 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Use some "cutting oil," can be obtained at Home Depot / Lowe's. Get some new bits while you're there (carbide tip). Use your drill at the slowest setting with A LOT of force (pushing on the drill). Careful to not apply too much force or the drill bit will break. Speeding up the drill will not help you, and in your case as described, probably dulled your drill bit tip. Adequate force without excess drill speed is the key here. Think about a drill press, they are typically very low rpm and allow for a lot of force to be applied to the bit.

      There is a link above below the published date with a price. Dyno numbers will be coming in the future. You don't typically see huge power gains with an intercooler swap but you get consistently low inlet temps which helps keep HP constant.
