If there is a 0dB or Unity mark somewhere, then you set it to that, if not then you put the desk to unity (or 0dB) and turn up the volume on the speaker until you reach the level you believe is the most optimum (sometimes this is easier with a pink noise oscillator)
Hey I have DBR15s they are on line level. Mixer is at unity but the speakers are toooo loud. The knob is from -Infinity to + 10 db. I have it at 0 (unity) Do I turn down the speakers or the main level faders?
If its a volume knob, set it to however you like. Excess volume can't harm or alter the signal. Gain is what you have to get right because too much will overdrive the input. If the system is just loud but not distorted, see if you have a useable range for your volume knob. If not, lower the gain until the volume is usable.

Yeah, you can turn down the knob
