Hi Marcus, I do have some more recent videos from last year but I will be making another one soon late spring/early summer to see how the garden is doing 👍🏻
Love the garden, iv had trouble picking plants to cope with the heat in Spain as my balcony is in constant sun . I now only grow succulents, got about 60 and they grow at an incredible rate. Got a few that have grown from a two inch cutting to a two foot plant in 18 months. You should give them a try
fill 101 thank you 😃 yes it can be tough in full sun here as we have experienced many times. My partner loves succulents and has been growing them for a while i think she likes them because she forgets to water them and they do ok 🤣 but you are right they grow quickly and some of the flowers are lovely!
Hi Jamie. You've done a great job. There's such a huge variety of palms. In a few years you'll be able to look back on this Vlog as a comparison and I'm sure it'll be barely recognizable with the size the palms and other plants will put on. I noticed a Cycas Revoluta. They'll do great where you are. The papayas are stunning. The way you've done the landscaping shows you're skills and experience, particularly in the sunken seating area which any Beverley Hills home would be proud to have. I enjoyed a beer whilst enjoying your tour. You deserve one yourself. Well done mate. First class 🍺👍
Thank you Vincenze! It means a lot for other people to think im doing a good job. Not everyone can see how it will look when its established, it takes imagination. Yes the cycas has the yellow flamed tips which is why i got it, i have a couple out the gate which suits them better away from the kids 😂. I’d love to do an open day in a few years when i can let other people have cuttings and propagated plants from what in growing 🤞🏻
its a catch 22 with growing palms in southern spain, greece, sicily etc. It is warm enough to grow a lot of subtropical and even cool tolerant tropical palms, but it is very dry when they are in active growth so it becomes a watering nightmare and is wetter when they are not actively growing. A lot of palms I saw looked very frail and just alive
Yes you are correct! Im trying to come up with a good solution at the moment! The good things is that when it rains it really rains hard and if you can collect a good amount of water it can really help! Also if you can get access to the riego water they use to water the fruit trees this is also very cheap and good for the palms!
Fantastic garden mate. Nice to see another with a palm fetish. Where do you order your palms from? I live north of Alicante in Altea. What did u do with soil? Did u amend our local clay? I never quite know how deep and wide to dig when planting here as a foot down I have solid clay rocks n building rubble
B Costa thank you 👍🏻 get them from all over really, you know what its like trying to find good stuff in our local garden centres 🤣 most of them come from Tenerife. I put plenty of humus mixed with other things when planted and every 2 years add to it. The stoney soil does have its benefits. What do you have in your collection? Are you on Instagram?
Tropical Garden Spain , I have a small collection at the minute, nothing special, archontophoenix alexandrae , robellini, queen palm , dypsis decaryi Washingtonias of course a few Strelitzia nicolai and bananas. Problem for now is I live on urb with small garden but I’m very interested in your project because I have a 10000m2 plot which I want to live on and hope to do same thing as you👍 I don’t have instagram but would be good to keep in touch🙂
B Costa very nice! Where is your 10,000m2 plot? Do you have a house on it? Its seems never ending but its very enjoyable to see it progress and an investment for my children too 😊 instagram is very good for other people doing similar things and great for ideas.
Tropical Garden Spain. In Altea, all rustic actually very overgrown but a big section of orange trees which is what all of it was. No house that’s the problem 🙁thinking of a shipping container home project for now just to get on there and get rid of mortgage on my house I’m in now. Would be a great life for my family n kids. Totally agree when all is done for u and I will be a massive investment for the kids
B Costa thats a great idea! Be very interesting project! If you ever need any help let me know! I love building projects! It would be interesting to see what plans you have. Being mortgage free sounds pretty nice too 👍🏻
