I know, with bacon between $5 and $7/pound even if I didn't put it on the sandwich (and bacon can be good on a cheesesteak) I'd certainly use it in some recipe or eat it for breakfast or put it on a burger or something.

Okay, so all the comments about him feeding the bacon to his dog. Why y'all hatin' on the dog? That just tells me that this guy really loves his dog. Besides, (And no offense) I would want that bacon cooked a little more crispy if I was going to eat it.
Now, I'll say, interesting choice with the cheese. I typically just use white American cheese sliced from the deli. I have used mozzarella when I didn't have anything else. Never used provolone on a cheese steak, even thought it's one of my favorite cheeses. Probably would say it IS my favorite. Good idea with adding the butter before toasting the rolls. Interesting video!

You nailed the thin cut and chopping the meat. Okay, to kick this up to another level, do the following. Oil/vinegar, Mayo, oregano then wrap the full sub in plastic wrap. Then peel and eat in a minute after the roll steams a little in the wrap.

Pretty good technique. Most of the pros seem to hold the bread open in their hand and put the meat in it with the spatula or lay the open roll on top of the meat on the flat top and then grip the meat with the roll and use the spatula to flip it over. Your way seems pretty easy and a little less risky for losing the meat.

    • @lavabeard5939
      @lavabeard5939 3 ปีที่แล้ว

they do it like that because they're making tons of them. you shouldnt copy fast food techniques completely because they do things that you would only do if you made the stuff constantly, like holding bread with one hand and throwing meat in there. it takes a lot of practice to do it smoothly, and it only saves a few seconds. over the course of a day that adds up, but what is a few seconds to a home cook? better to keep your meat safe!

@@deanspring1350 bruh.. Nobody is makin a better cheesesteak than anybody from Philly.. We watch ours get made so we know what goes on it and how it's made so we can kinda judge, but not gon lie tho he is close tho.. What he said was key.. It's about how you like it, but you kinda can't call it a PHILLY cheesesteak if it's not done like it's done in Philly that made and gave it it's name.. It's iconic and other places borrow our name, but when Philly people travel, stop and order a "philly cheesesteak", we leave disappointed.. Just call it a cheesesteak if its not original, and yes you are definitely correct he do got the game chopped.. I ain't see no salt or pepper drop on that joint😒 in the way

You put the bread on top of the steak , then you scoop and flip. All one motion. Cheese never gets mixed in . Cheese melts on the steak before you put the bread on top to flip.

Philadelphia has really made its local delicacy famous around the world. I definitely have to try one some time, but when I do, I'd prefer to have it in proper style at its birthplace in the great city of Philadelphia. Greetings from germany. (this whole clip is very American to me btw. a relaxed cool guy having an oversized grille with a cooking plate on top in his garage making a bbq in what a appears to be a nice house in a clean and nice neighborhood with a Muscle car and an SUV in the driveway) :)

After several attempts, I make my own "special oil," by rendering pork fat, then I add Better than Bouillon brand, roasted beef base and whisk all together in a small sauce pan over low heat and set aside. The pork fat is straight up Chicharrons' I buy at the Mexican market. It gives it that punch you'd expect. Here in Colorado, we have "A Taste of Philly," they have the Amoroso buns and topping it off with Boylans cream soda. Man O Man. I will always try new ways and your recipe will be my next dish for the fam.

I'm a philly fanatic. I make several times a month for the family and will eat everywhere that offers one, just to see all the differences. Good job on this one. Only feedback if not offended would be to slow down the cooking of the meat. I find low and slow for the thin meat creates the juiciest philly (not greasy), plus this let's the peppers and onions marinade more with the meat and gets the flavors packed throughout. Love the blue rhino. I have a StealMade plate that covers my whole kitchen stove. It awesome. Thank you for sharing!!!!

A sub would require lettuce and tomato so not a cheese steak sub. Too many peppers will dominate the flavor profile. I would say it's only better than what you can buy ONLY IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE PHILLY AREA.

  • @TheEastCoastSensation

Born and raised in South Philly cuzzzz. He used the rite meat. The bread looks on point but not an authentic cheese steak by far.
The authentic is ordered with or without onions. When ordering you would say “wit” or “wit out”. Then you would tell them what type of cheese. American, provolone or cheese wiz.
Peppers are never cooked into the steak always put on after. If you go to Pat’s, Gino’s or Phil’s steaks in Philly you would see that stuff outside on the side. Not sure about the bacon grease or the buttered roll but you like what you like. It looked very good I must say regardless. I like American no onions extra cheese and the wife likes no onions extra cheese wizzzz! We are in vegas now and still on the hunt for the perfect cheese steak with no luck.

That was a joke. The bread they get from Amaroso’s in philly but it’s frozen then defrosted. Its flaky and tasted like nothing. We took two bits and left it there. We are still on the hunt.

"How not to make a Philly cheesesteak". 1. There are no green peppers in a cheese steak. 2. There is no bacon in a cheese steak. 3. You need to chop your steak more. The finer you chop it the softer and better the sandwich is. 4. Your meat looks all gnarled up, this is because your butcher didn't freeze the meat and then slice it thin. It's easier to slice the meat thin when it's frozen. Your meat is going to be chewy this way. 5. You don't toast your bread. 6. You're supposed to place your bread upside down on top of your meat piles and then take your spatula underneath the meat pile and flip it up and over. 7. Put mayo on the bun before you put the meat on. 8. No mozzarella on a cheesesteak - only American, provolone, or cheese wiz. 9. The only thing you really got right was how you put the provolone on top of the meat pile. I think millions of people from Philly are in agony right now. Google a video of Philly cheesesteak places.

I'm from philly and no one puts green peppers on a cheesesteak! It's good meat, Good provolone or American cheese, onions and must be on a great Sarcone's seeded roll. Whizz is used for the stadiums and tourist trap steak joints.
