  • In this tutorial, I'll show one way that I make ambient generative loops on the Ableton Push 3 Standalone, specifically for recording to 4-track cassette tapes, which I use to play and perform with.
Hopefully this tutorial is interesting for producers and musicians who want to create ambient music using the Push 3's MPE sounds, as well as generative midi sequencing capabilities.
You'll see how to create long, gradually changing loops using the Push 3's sounds and sample packs, and I'll be showing a few ideas, tips and tricks along the way.
    Have a good one!

What other ways to make ambient music on the Push 3 would you like to watch in future videos? Looping with guitar/microphone input or playing with fx/pads on the Push? Throw me a comment 👍

very cool thanks, going to watch your looper video now I was early adopted on the push 3 and then sold it, as i found it was not really working the way I expected but am hoping it has improved as i repurchased ! :)

Cool stuff - loved the textual descriptions when you pressed something that wasn't immediately obvious. I'd love more videos on basic Push 3 strategies...

Yup... will definitely do some of those 👍 like the basic workflows, such as recording, chopping samples, sound designing on the built in ableton synths?

Thank you so much for sharing your process. I’ve been playing with probabilities and having so much fun. I would love to see more of your ambient techniques with PUSH 3 especially granular ideas. I also very much am interested in what devices and stock sounds you use. I always struggle there. Thank you so much

My pleasure …. Yeah the push 3 is pretty awesome. My fave is also the probability of midi notes. I’ll probably do a video exploring the various granular sounds👍

Wow, this probably sold me for the P3, this is one approach I like to make music; ambient with generative Midi, but it‘s a big effort doing it with hardware synths - would love to see your subsequent actions with the tape deck and (external?) effects

It's a fun, hands on, playable way to make generative ambient which often is a very cerebral process

Hi Martin, thanks for the great video. Can you explain 'probability' a bit more? I followed every step in the vid and when I got to the probability bit it didn't seem to work. I'm assuming I made some kind of common mistake. What's the difference between probability and say, one of the random 'styles' on the arpeggiator? Much appreciated!

Probability is the percentage chance that the midi note makes a sound at all. Whereas the random setting on an arpeggiator randomly plays one of the notes that you have pressed down on the keyboard.
In other words, it always plays something on the next quarter or eight or sixteenth note, but whatever note that is played is random. Make sense?

@@MartinYamMoller Thanks Martin. I have figured it out. Very cool option for making thing 'generative.'

Great video. Can you do all that (particularly the pitch bend thing on strings) with Push 2 integrated with Live (non standalone)?

    • @MartinYamMoller
      @MartinYamMoller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nope... The Push 2 doesn't have MPE.... But you could just play one note at a time and use the pitch bender.... Then again, it's also possible to do it with automation in any DAW really.

Thanks for the reply@@MartinYamMoller . Im thinking of getting a Push 2 to facilitate my recording and songwriting workflow (rock, indie, experimental stuff).

Are you serious about the cassette tape thing or is it part of this character? Been watching the videos and appreciate them.

I don’t understand what you mean by ‘this character’… but I’ve recorded over 200 cassette tapes of music and done over 20 hours of live-streaming with 4-tracks, as well as played many concerts with them. It's pretty serious...but i try not to take it too seriously😉, if you know what I mean?
