  • This is a two part review of the Swiss Alphenflage backpack and half-shelter.
these are old school designs made from cotton canvas. They're not very popular with most surplus enthusiasts, however they are cheap and make a decent beginner's adventure kit.

The pack goes with the M-70 Swiss Alpenflauge Jacket & coverall style BDU's , both of which has a multitude of pockets & built in ammo/Mag pockets. They were designed to use a components to a set. I have the Jkt. & the pants, & the poncho of the same camo. They are great, & very serviceable. The shelter that is shown doesn't go with component system.

Thats also what the metal clips he didnt know what were for get used on...they clip to the same ones on front of TAZ57 coat so straps aren't blocking the many pockets etc~

Made to go with a m70 jacket which has a butt load pockets .Main part of the pack is for the Swiss poncho.Side compartments are for the Swiss volcano stove ,the other side is for "maybe"tent stakes to make a shelter from the poncho. And I think the attachment points are for a shovel.

The two sidecompartments were for storing the Gewehrgranate 58, which was launched with the Sturmgewehr 57.

      Yup.
They handily fit most cooking kits etc for those days there are no wars tho, lols.
Ditto the metal clips are buckles to attach to the TAZ57 coat's matching ones.

The attachment points are for attaching the bag to the alpenflage field jacket. Eliminating the need for shoulder straps and I’m pretty sure you had your head through the arm hole. I believe it’s a strange design similar to the old Soviet poncho.

    The olive webbing is German.

your Alpenflage rucksack is an aftermarket cut and shunt job, originally it connected to a matching load bearing jacket, the straps are an after market add-on. This results in it now hanging way too low on your back and would be very uncomfortable after a short period of time. Your 2 for $10 would be better spent getting the jacket AND ruck for about the same price.
The gear in itself is fantastic both my wife and myself use them as shooting jackets, I suggest you check out several reviews on the combined items here on youtube - this probably is the best - th-cam.com/video/Qe1rhAaJ7H4/w-d-xo.html

If you're willing to do a bit of work and get it, the pack is supposed to button onto the blouse. I ordered mine from sportsman's guide (www.sportsmansguide.com) for i think 20-30. I got the blouse pants and this bag. It's a neat concept. I use it hunting and can carry almost all of my gear in the blouse and pants alone.

this hurts. the nice backpack is ruined with the strangely attached olive webbing. that's not genuine, looks like homemade. And whoever told you the Swedish Zeltbahn is Swiss - find him and spank him xD

I've heard that more than once after making the video. It might be true, but it seems the "popular" version sold on line.

@@viktorgames2737 no, it isnt. The olive webbing is German in origin. Originally these packs would attach directly to the associated parka in the same pattern.
