It looks ideal for NON military load out. Grunts don’t have a choice of what gear they HAVE TO carry. I do. That pack looks very durable and practical. If it isn’t loaded down with eeaponry and blammo and other heavy items then the weight of the pack itself is really not an issue. Not super comfortable but it it is practical with potential. Great presentation Soldiers. Thanks for your service.

Hey I got the original one I put money down on a shotgun when I was a kid and I took forever to get there he sold it anyway I bought this because it was cheap I took it to the range everybody shooting I had Target 35 yards out I thought I was missing and this when I first bought it didn't even know how to shoot it so I started aiming at the little metal pole that was like a 2 in wide that held up the targets I could hear bullets hitting it like five times in a row and a guy started yelling anyway it's a really accurate gun 5000 rounds never had a misfire never cleaned it still waiting for that malfunction rock and roll

“Smooth” zippers are not always great. When they are “rough” like that they don’t come undone easily. Also,it’s a good idea to wax your zippers every so often. Sounds like you need a sling bag, my guy.

Couple thoughts, with all respect meant in the world... 1. I don't believe that bed roll needs to ride on the outside of the pack. It's visibly obvious the pack isn't packed full enough to need to lash it to the outside, so that should be packed inside to fill out the pack; if moisture is a concern, dry bags are great for creating those internal separations, when needs be. Plus, it's always good to try to keep the exterior of a pack like this slick and free of extra stuff, which can snag on brush, fall off accidentally, etc... 2. Right pack for the right job. A 65L pack is overkill for an overnight camping / backpacking trip, unless you are trying to be *very* comfortable, in which case, again, you'd want to pack that thing full to fill out the pack and really utilize that 65L of space. :)

Knowing how to properly set up and pack this military rucksack is key, I considered this backpack to be among the most comfortable options. While some may find the ACU pattern unattractive, I personally appreciate its color and design. I agree very much at 17:34.

Ratnik all the way. The USGI assault pack is good, but I am completely bias at this point because I have always preferred bucket style top loading packs/rucks. The two things everyone has these days on pretty much every pack out there is zippers and velcro.. the two things that won't last for nearly as much time, if it fails good luck replacing it. All your contents fall out at the worst times exc exc. Velcro may be fast, but it's loud, and it fails in pretty much most environments if exposed to long to the elements. It fails if it gets to much snow in it, it fails if it gets to much sand in it.. hell it fails if It is just used to much... velcro is crap.. literally the only thing you get with the USGI assault pack is organization and slightly faster access.. Seriously though.. its called "pack your most important shit that you use regularly on the top or on the side pouches, and put the stuff you don't need except for certain times on the bottom.. SIMPLE. Don't be lazy, plan out how you pack things and use your brain, not if it's convenient or not. Convenience kills just about everyone in the long run.

I have both packs. The Russian pack fits a bit tighter on me (I'm a big guy.) and the buckles are pretty flimsy compared to the Armies assault pack. I removed the buckles on the Russian pack and replaced them with sturdier buckles. The Army pack fits great. It's has more storage than the Russian one. The straps on the Army pack are not great but our forefathers had a lot less to work with. They just sucked it up, and kept pushing. The ACU color stinks, but its nothing a dye bath can't fix.

I bought two of those packs. They were pricey last year, but I spend extra to get practically brand new packs. UCP doesn't bother me because I dye it, and if that doesn't satisfy me, I'll spray paint...either way, problem solved. It's very easy to setup the pack once you view the instructions. They do make it pretty easy for army folks to assemble their gear. PS: I love how you throw your gear nonchalantly on the floor.

I got one where you can just easily insert your finger in it. On that horizontal strap (~6:37), I just got rid of that. Also, that plate in the back, I also took it out. The 2 velcro bags, I also removed them - however, I wished they made a compartment bag with zipper identical to what they have at the bottom in that same compartment.

rest assured that the German soldiers use this for cooking on their Esbit solid fuel stoves since WW2. and do so still today. A bigger version of this kit has already been in use in WW1. That version could hold 1,5 liters, the modern ones are approx. 1,1l - still more than enough to heat some meals, make a stew or soup.
