Totally! But I don't think they were even trying to be funny in this. It just seemed like they were showing off how progressive they are but the problem is most of us have the same progressive views so the video had no impact in terms of comedy. I think they could have tried much harder. But I think they just wanted people to praise their views and bravery in the comments. Because they know their audience and how safe this video would be because most of us don't have a different opinion on the subject.

I completely agree with the fact that considering diversity a trend is dumb and dangerous. That said, please keep in mind that there's a difference between diversity and "sticking a token black/[insert other minority] character in a movie or show", which is something show business does way too often. Personally, I would feel insulted if a movie or a show claimed to be "inclusive" when it's obvious they just shoved a minority in there just so they would be able to say: "SEE?! WE'RE INCLUSIVE!". If it's not genuine inclusion that happened spountaineously, if it's forced and it happened just to get people talking or, worse, in order to get people mad (which is what they aim for whenever they gender swap a character or change its ethnicity) then it's simply insulting. That's what people should really get mad about.
Sadly I think we're still at the early stages of total equality, and all visibility of minorities is good. We'll just have to take what we're given. However, as time goes on, media will hopefully understand that dark skinned, shallow friends to the lead role can actually be persons and have their own stories and depth. But right now, simple visibility is better than nothing.
If you're pointing out that you're diverse and trying to use that to sell your product, then you obviously don't have the best of intentions. But people complaining about "forced-inclusion" is just as infuriating too since businesses makes marketable decisions, so it doesn't matter whether it's an all-white cast or not. As long as they're actually characters, then I couldn't care less about the "diversity".
all this is saying is that diversity shouldn't be just a trend or gimmick. but that doesn't change the fact that there are businesses and people making it a trend and gimmick. instead of being representation of how real life is, it's instead being made about fashion, and cheapened. this is really happening.
That logic, or at least your wording, is flawed. If they focus on mimicking real life then in the US every business would have 13% black and 72% white with a pinch of some other races thrown in. Then you wind up with the same issue, discrimination, the bad kind.
That's...the point? Like, was that not obvious? There's a great Onion article that satirised the same thing - "Women Now Empowered By Everything A Woman Does" - about how many businesses were like "Buy our crap, we love women too!"
Chobrenga not really, you are assuming that every business has the same amount of people who qualify to work there. Some fields like technology in general you will find that they consist of many chinese, indian and other asian males with women being a minority and whites are not a vast majority. Communism is a philosophical idea and then became a political party. The video is talking about societal issues in a satirical way I don't see how it's even related. And if anything politic it would probably be socialism and not communism anyway. Wtf are you on about dude. Are you like anti-diversity, because it's technically not a thing since diversity exists it's just a fact of life. I mean there's exclusion of this diversity or inclusion but either societal and political way you chose, diversity is there. What possibly could have honestly bothered you with this video ? I seriously don't get it ?
+Laureen Berger there is diversity and there is diversity. It might sound the same but it isn't. One is the fact that people of different living around you, and the other is an ideology of pushing different people into specific places to combat an imaginary non-diversity (as in hiring a black guy instead of a white guy even when the white guy has better qualifications or vice versa, doesn't really make a difference).
Pilotwhale Productions The message was super easy, barely an inconvenience... it's just saying that Diversity shouldn't be a selling point since people of different culter and way of life existed long before 2018. So all the people talking about diversity in Hollywood and online like it's some new trend should stop, and appreciate the forward progression of today's society compared to the 60's where the only way to experience other's culter is to be in the culture.
Being black isn't a trend you weirdos they're just being exploited due to entertainment purposes. Black people are seen as mainly just entertainment and nothing more but I wouldn't expect you fools to understand, can't be on the outside looking in.
Really confused by this one, thought it was gunna be a woke piece about how businesses are using diversity as a shallow marketing ploy and 'activists' actually get sucked in to believing they made a positive difference to the world whilst communities fracture all around them.
Expecting companies with almost 0 incentive to care to do anything that isn't just marketing is absurd. A better question is, why WOULD companies do anything that isn't purely to improve stock performance, like preying on our culture of "wokeness"? Because that's what they have, tactics not feelings.
I actually kind of got that message from Raika. I realized that companies are only having movies largely made up of minorities as a way to appeal to the market, and once people stop actively caring, that will go away, which is what she is saying. The counter point is that movies will never go back to being super white, because we’re more conscious about being diverse. That’s what the sociologists are saying.
Reading the comments makes me wonder if any of these people have spent a single day on the internet this year. This video speaks to me so much, because everyday I'm confronted with dozens of people saying "Oh, a PoC/non-straight person/etc. was obviously only included because diversity is so trendy now and you sell well with diversity!" and it drives me SO mad. NO. Diversity isn't and never has been a "trend". It's a real thing, in the real world, every single day, since the dawn of times. Pop culture, companies and the like are sadly only recently starting to acknowledge that fact, but it's always been that way. Calling it a trend implies that it's just something cool to do for a year or two before it becomes uncool again. Treating the representation of minorities that way, who have ALWAYS been around and are FINALLY actually becoming visible, is infuriating.
And you drive me mad! Because the two perspectives you're giving here are not mutually exclusive, and you don't seem to have noticed that. Diversity is not a trend; it's a fact of life on Earth. That's absolutely true. So all of a sudden you trust the motivations of giant corporations run by psychopathic billionaires because they fed you something that appeared to represent your politics? Crazy. I'm sorry, but that's crazy. The fact that all kinds of people _should_ be represented in pop culture doesn't mean that when it happens, it happens for the right reasons. Hollywood is a money machine; they will sell you whatever they figure you're buying. So, yeah. A capitalist just had to lecture a progressive on why they shouldn't trust corporations. :|
Kendawg K Yeah, but the main stream media makes it sound otherwise. For them we are all just different "races, genders, cultures, sexual orientations, etc. They don't care about their audiences, they just want to trick them on representing them to make more money (trending it) or to push an annoyin agenda.
I'm kind of glad they get it. Everyone's talking about how "diverse" Black Panther was. Srsly? BP didn't _invent_ what's been a global trait for millennia, and, while we're on the subject, the film itself didn't really exhibit a lot of diversity. It was still a film whose cast was predominantly one ethnicity. Said ethnicity just happened to be a different one than usual. Great movie? Yes. Predominantly-black-cast film that crushed it at the box office? Yes. Lackluster CGI? Yes. Diverse? Not really.
I mean i guess it diverse and good in that it attempts to be accurate? Tbh when i use that i mean that its not just white people in the movie. Like black panther is diverse because it has a diverse cast rather than just white people.
What I'm getting from this comment section is: no one really agrees on what the point of this video was, but a lot of good ideas are being pulled from it. I see a lot of people saying this video is directed at the right or the left, but really this video is for all people who make a point of "being so diverse" when really we should live lives where we celebrate diversity. We don't want make a point about self worth based on how "diverse we are," we should execute it without expecting praise for our actions.
How many non black actors/actress were in the Black Panther? You can't say a movie is more divers than the other when it's doing essentially the something lol
Damn, this is sobering, nice one CH. So personal anecdote, I actually grew up in a small, mainly white, suburban town. We had some diversity, but not a whole lot. That being said, we weren't really racist or anything like that. At least, my family wasn't. My parents taught me to respect others regardless of race. Still, when you grow up in a mainly white community and see the unfortunately still prevailing depictions of black people as criminals, gangsters, and other unsavory types on television and in other media, it's hard not to develop a few biases and misconceptions. I thought I was fairly colorblind, but I must shamefully admit that when I first entered college it was a bit of a culture shock for me. Suddenly I was surrounded by a LOT more African Americans, and people of other races and nationalities as well. We were also required as part of our UCC to take courses teaching about racial issues, gender issues, etc. So I like to think I have grown and developed a lot since then, since my freshman year of college. I hope that I can truly say that I have become less biased and that attending that college and taking those courses has helped me to grow as a person and break down some of those ingrained messages in my brain. I'm still learning to overcome some biases and become more colorblind, tbh, but at least I'm trying. I feel ashamed to admit that I even possess such things in the first place but what can I do? I can't help having grown up where I did and I can't help the way our society and media was when I was growing up. But, things are getting better, and I CAN try to be more open-minded and to change our society and the media now. :)
Yeah, After that election, we definitely knew we were probably going to have to keep diversity in the cupboard until it cycles back around again, it's a shame too, I was really enjoying it, now I have to keep that enjoyment to myself like a secret sin.
David Bobowski And hiring them more often, and giving them scholarships, and demonizing the majority, and giving double standards. I prefer equal rights and opportunity, not equal outcome by destroying any who's not a minority.
What group are you calling 'people' as a blanket term. Do you mean non-LGBT? If so, I don't know a single person that thinks diversity is a trend. Personally, I don't even think it matters. After all, diversity of thought is the true gem. The same difference in mindset that led to the best country on Earth and one that's still improving.
Trevan Cahmoulee Giving them scholarships and hiring them more often is equal rights and opportunity. It’s giving them a chance to succeed that they didn’t previously have.
Diversity in Television and Film right now is unfortunately only about the $$$. The people making these things couldn’t care less, but know it’ll bring in the cash because diversity is a “trend” or “hotopic” right now
I mean,,,, probably, yeah. Though any representation at all in the media is probably a good thing given how much impact it has. So I'm not complaining.
Well it's not so much scripted but they probably know it's a sketch but it's not hard for them to act since they probably deal with people like that all day long like they know reika is just it's all a part of a skit but they're just used to people who act like Ray could do but they're not doing it as part of some joke or skit
Cosmo Joe Really? Japan is mostly populated with Japanese people (Making it homogeneous), and so far it's done pretty well to keep its culture and its economy up and growing compared to Europe which is being swarmed by north African and middle eastern immigrants, which is doing terribly (e.g. greek + Italian economies, which are where most of the migrants are and other European countries where crime has massively increased as well as a massive strain on the state to provide for them - free healthcare and benefits in the uk for example
Nick You do know the indigenous people of Japan are the Ainu right? Sorry but people who you think are Japanese are the ancestors of Invaders from mainland Asia.
Michael Lewis okay, but it's not that revelant as it happened 100s of years ago. Also a similar thing happened to the natives of North America, but u still call people from the USA americans, even if they were originally from Europe. However, a foreign people invading and taking over a natives people's land is very bad, and this is what is basically happening in Europe from immigration (especially from those of a different culture to western one so are not compatible leading to conflict and them trying to change laws to what they want - for example with Islam and radicals wanting shariah law in the West and these migrants raping children in Asian grooming gangs - e.g. in UK)
I mean... but having a "diverse" cast in media is kind of trendy now lol. And i'm not saying that divesity is a fad or that is going out. But forced diversity i think will eventually go away, you know, kind of like how they make sure the new star wars has every possible ethnicity for marketing purposes, they look like the power rangers lol. Forced diveristy shouldn't be needed in the future when the cast of movies will be diverse naturally, just by every people getting the same opportunities, and people wanting to explore different types of stories.
Ironically, Power Rangers was actually more diverse, when you factor in Tommy. Which... it's a bit sad that we haven't improved much over a kids TV show from nearly thirty years ago. I hope to goodness you're right about everything becoming more naturally equal.
Mewtata i say we have improved at least a little. Consider this, power rangers may be diverse, but the lead was still the white dude, and that was the norm for that particular decade. Diversity meant a white dude with a bunch of "diverse" sidekicks lol, usually only a black guy as comic relief. Worst offenders were movies like the last samurai, where the plot is literally a white dude coming to save people of other ethnicity, become better at what they do, and teach them their own culture lol. And the white washing was all the charts, now i think its not that big of a problem, but men... 20 years ago was just the norm So I think we are not that bad, its just kind of slow, but companies like disney are making a fool of themselves by applying 90's power ranger logic. I do hope that sort of stuff eventually fades
Why is it bizarre? If some studio executive say that a movie or show needs to have certain number of different ethnic background from the actors. Or that they need at least one of this group or this group or that group. Thats what i call forced, it is something far from a natural ocurrence. Its not a consequence of the natural diversity of humanity but from a specific choice of some executives. Thats what i hope is a fad and that in the future is mostly natural, arbitrary
Am I the only person who gets really freaked out when people try too hard to diversify their friend group? Because at a certain point it seems like they're just befriending someone for woke points as opposed to, y'know, wanting to be friends.
Thank you for this video. I’m getting so tired of people screaming about “forced diversity” and “leftist agendas.” Like, buddy, diversity is just the world around you...
Yeah bro! Every group of 5 friends sitting in a coffeeshop has 1 of every race/color/religion and each person has completely different sexualities (all 62 of them!). People totally don't stick together because they have similar traits and interests! Gotta make sure every TV shows main cast looks like a college campus advertisement! I'm perfectly aware the above is a shitty straw man argument of your statement. But your argument has exactly the same level of nuance if you truly think that's why people are "against diversity" today.
@@nbkw48 There arent 62 sexualities. Here is a comprehensive list of the most common ones: Straight Gay Bi Pan Ace Fluid There are a few others with more complicated meanings, but overall, there really arent that much more than 15
NB KW So please do enlighten me, why are people “against diversity?” Can you please name examples of these copious tv shows with cursed racially diverse casts that put their focus on superficial qualities rather than actual plot?
I am intimidated by the expressiveness of Rekha's facial features. Like, each feature individually.
The little cool-new-vocab-term-kids! headbop she does at 0:48 is the most on-brand 90s thing I've ever seen 😂
This is a valid fear
They should have replaced Rehka with Katie at the end and act like Rehka was never there;
That would confirm the "Trend" she was talking about.
Katie definitely should have been a part of this sketch.
But Katie doesnt see race...
That actually woulda been hillarious

"What you're saying is extremely dangerous", why is it dangerous?
Mechanical Ninjineer Why are you High! 😆 doesn’t it mean being Racist?
Most places are out of stock, I got some limited edition diversity though. It almost tripled in price since I bought it.
I've got a bunch of diversity stashed in my basment, _....you never know_

So all the people talking about diversity in Hollywood and online like it's some new trend should stop, and appreciate the forward progression of today's society compared to the 60's where the only way to experience other's culter is to be in the culture.
MattOmniHeart
Now that makes a lot more sense.
This 90's theme is so accurate. Down to the camera angles
I thought being black was the new trend? Here I was thinking about getting a reverse Michael Jackson.
But then you'll get called out for blackface
Being black isn't a trend you weirdos they're just being exploited due to entertainment purposes. Black people are seen as mainly just entertainment and nothing more but I wouldn't expect you fools to understand, can't be on the outside looking in.
@@IllMatic97 Is it exploitation is the actors we're using are getting paid millions to entertain us?
Touche
And they signed up for it, I don't think anyone held a gun to Kevin Hearts like "MAKE A SUCCESSFUL LIVING MAKING PEOPLE FUCK8NG LAUGH"
Katie doesn’t see diversity she only sees globs so she wouldn’t get it maybe try a different fad?
Hah! Nice callback.
Uh, viewing the world through cocaine lenses isn’t a way of life, or a choice she was born like that have some respect
Really confused by this one, thought it was gunna be a woke piece about how businesses are using diversity as a shallow marketing ploy and 'activists' actually get sucked in to believing they made a positive difference to the world whilst communities fracture all around them.
yes companies are totally cashing in on using these activists to make money they don't care it is all about money
That would've been a better sketch. I understood this one, it was kind of saying what you said but missed the mark a bit.
Expecting companies with almost 0 incentive to care to do anything that isn't just marketing is absurd.
A better question is, why WOULD companies do anything that isn't purely to improve stock performance, like preying on our culture of "wokeness"? Because that's what they have, tactics not feelings.
That makes sense
Damn, it’s so out now! Get with the times
Black panther is not a black movement it's just a marvel movie that takes place in an African country
Like black panther is diverse because it has a diverse cast rather than just white people.
it is diverse compared to all the other Marvel movies, tho.
@@anotheronechompsthedust9618
Oh, absolutely. But to call it diverse in general is inaccurate.
The experts on this video make some really good points
... but black panther came out recently soo
Honestly this CH team is super smart and good. They keep on delivering really good content.
I love the 80s feel of the video - the graphics, her clothes, the subtle soft filter
90's not 80's. I grew up in the 80's and it wasn't very diverse honestly
this is early 90s

What I'm getting from this comment section is: no one really agrees on what the point of this video was, but a lot of good ideas are being pulled from it. I see a lot of people saying this video is directed at the right or the left, but really this video is for all people who make a point of "being so diverse" when really we should live lives where we celebrate diversity. We don't want make a point about self worth based on how "diverse we are," we should execute it without expecting praise for our actions.
LMFAO!!! I love this 1997 show vibe here!

I can endlessly replay 3:26 if I can. Omg. I love this.
It's 2020 now, I think it's safe to say diversity is IN
Yes🙌
All of Rekha's sketches are so strange and eclectic, its fascinating.
Blade came out before black panther... just saying...
How many black actors in Blade? How many in Black Panther? Nuff said.
Sir Stratigiz Black Panther was better
bruh your missing the point
How many non black actors/actress were in the Black Panther?
You can't say a movie is more divers than the other when it's doing essentially the something lol
I think she was referring to the black activist group the Black Panthers, not the comic book movie.
If i had a dollar for every girl that finds me unattractive, they'll eventually find me attractive

Holy crap I love the experts. They were so funny and good sports about the sketch.
Rekha's on a roll lately, her recent sketches are so good!
Is it weird that i expected Rehka to morph into Katie or Jess when she said diversity was out?
Black Panther was sooo last season- everybody’s all about Latino Tiger now 😂😂😂
Seriously Loud Danny I thought it was Asian lynx
Ziggygunner lmaooo ooooo you think they’ll do a team up movie??

SO many superheroes in the "Diversity Cinematic Universe"! 😂
Was sad to see that trend end.
Yeah, After that election, we definitely knew we were probably going to have to keep diversity in the cupboard until it cycles back around again, it's a shame too, I was really enjoying it, now I have to keep that enjoyment to myself like a secret sin.

So true! People think women, LGBT+, colored people are "in," but really we're just more noticing them in our everyday lives!
The same difference in mindset that led to the best country on Earth and one that's still improving.
sorry did you say that people think women are "in"? what?
Olesya Gorbunova I meant women's rights
Trevan Cahmoulee Giving them scholarships and hiring them more often is equal rights and opportunity. It’s giving them a chance to succeed that they didn’t previously have.

Diversity in Television and Film right now is unfortunately only about the $$$. The people making these things couldn’t care less, but know it’ll bring in the cash because diversity is a “trend” or “hotopic” right now
I mean,,,, probably, yeah. Though any representation at all in the media is probably a good thing given how much impact it has. So I'm not complaining.

They haven't been ok since like 2008
Should... Should someone go check on them?
A person can't be diverse... groups can.
I want to know if the experts are on a script or genuinely reacting
Well it's not so much scripted but they probably know it's a sketch but it's not hard for them to act since they probably deal with people like that all day long like they know reika is just it's all a part of a skit but they're just used to people who act like Ray could do but they're not doing it as part of some joke or skit
That ending tho....

COco510 I hate diversity, Too much destroys a native culture and europe is seeminy under an invasion from their immigration policies
Yes. Just like what the English did to the Americas? Do you spare a thought for the Native Americans, or is it only white people you're worried about.
However, a foreign people invading and taking over a natives people's land is very bad, and this is what is basically happening in Europe from immigration (especially from those of a different culture to western one so are not compatible leading to conflict and them trying to change laws to what they want - for example with Islam and radicals wanting shariah law in the West and these migrants raping children in Asian grooming gangs - e.g. in UK)
Ending kind of had some "Black Mirror" vibes
Hahaha the horrific fear of wrongthink is real among these people.
I mean... but having a "diverse" cast in media is kind of trendy now lol.
20 years ago was just the norm
So I think we are not that bad, its just kind of slow, but companies like disney are making a fool of themselves by applying 90's power ranger logic.
I do hope that sort of stuff eventually fades
I agree, maybe one day they will phase out any actors who arent people of color
Assuming diversity is forced is bizarre. It assumes the natural state of things is primarily, if not exclusively, whites on screen.
This girl is so good at acting. Love her.

MartialArtsCat101 not really. Diversity is a new thing because America is built on money and more than just white people have money now
@@nbkw48
There arent 62 sexualities. Here is a comprehensive list of the most common ones:
Straight
Gay
Bi
Pan
Ace
Fluid
There are a few others with more complicated meanings, but overall, there really arent that much more than 15
