    "gorčica" (mustard) is very similar to the slovak term "horčica"
    the only difference is that some slavic nations don't have the "h" letter (russia for example)

    • @Kitulous
      @Kitulous 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      "g" and "h" (voiced h, not ch) are interchangeable between slavic languages (i mean that there are languages with "g" and with "h", russian/bulgarian and czech/slovak as examples)
      that's the beauty of slavic languages that i love -- these languages are pretty different and diverse, but all are mutually intelligible, especially if you know sound changes (like in old slavic we had some sort of "r" that later turned into "rz" (zh) in polish, "ř" (rzh) in czech and "r" in other slavic languages, if you know that change, you would understand that polish "zwierze" is actually russian "zverь" (ь is a soft sign))

Например в украинският език ,,Г" е меко ,,Х," като гръцкото/испанското ,,Х," макар че го имат обикновеното ,,Х" също. Много рядко в украинския го има звукът ,,Г" и той се изписва като ,,Ґ." А пък в беларуският език те изобщо нямат ,,Г" като звук и само ,,Х."

    • @HeroManNick132
      @HeroManNick132 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kitulous It is funny how it reminds how in Macedonian hero is "хероj" while in Bulgarian is "герой." But in Macedonian they mostly avoid this sound though and mostly replace it with "В" like for example: succeeded in Bulgarian "успях," while in Macedonian is "успеав."
      But you didn't say about the "Ъ" sound how almost every Slavic language has it but mostly in Bulgarian. Usually most people Slavic people don't pronounce this sound good, even if they have it like in Russian in the words "тигр, театр" which is pronounced like the word "rubber."
      Also Belarusian doesn't have the "G" sound at all they have only "H" and "KH" sound. Ukrainian is the same but at least they have the "G" sound that is written as "Ґ" but it is rarely used compared to the regular "Г" letter.

      @Prototype Eye The point is that since it’s a made up country, you can suspend your disbelief a little bit.
      Most people can’t speak Bulgarian so we don’t even notice that it’s broken. But if you can speak Bulgarian and you can hear Tom Hank’s broken version of it, you can remind yourself that he’s not actually Bulgarian. He’s “Krakosian”.
      It’s similar to if I as an American see a Japanese Anime in its original language and an “American/Aussie/Brit” character shows up speaking super bad English. I get it. They couldn’t find a fluent speaker to do the lines. (I actually think it’s quite funny)
      But if I were Japanese and couldn’t speak English then I wouldn’t care or notice. I just hear a foreign language from the foreign guy.

      Well, he does not play a Bulgarian character so why would they hire a Bulgarian? The character's country is made up. The premise is that his country ceases to exist while he is travelling and his passport is no longer valid. I think he speaks Bulgarian in the movie because his father-in-law is Bulgarian. So basically any language from Eastern Europe would do. If it was his wife and her father who coached him in Bulgarian, they did a great job.
