Nice job on the video. I think making archaeology something like a mini-game is a good shout, but I also think it's best not to overload it with too much 'bloat'; I like the idea of having to time the brush, but you wanna make sure there's not too many things the player needs to keep track of just to start excavating. For example I don't think there needs to be multiple tools that do mostly the same thing, the idea of gating progression is good, but I think that can be done without adding the same kind of item twice.
[obligatory comment showing surprise at the fact that someone with a relatively large audience can also be a part of and interact with other audiences]
If having a brush to clean away dirt gravel and sand and a chisel to clean away stone obsidian and other hard materials is the same to you then we should get rid of the shovel and ax and only use the pickaxe. Lol
In my opinion, the 'bloat' you are taking about it's the bucket of water, it doesn't really fit archeology (real archeologyst don't use water, it could ruin their findings), on a mechanical level switching item could feel too complicated for minecraft. The chisel its a pretty simple idea for progression, but could be spiced up with some sort of timing or ritmic minigame that changes a bit with every tipe of stone. Im not shure about the UI either, it doesn't feel very minecrafty, some kind of visual indication could be better, like particles, idk. Maybe add in some sort of guide like the advancements menu but you put experience into it to unlock the crafting recipe? It would add another somewhat optional complex layer to the game, what do you think?
You have pretty cool ideas but I feel like you're only considering the ideas themselves and not the consequences of them. For example, a minigame centered around the brushing mechanic that adds more layers overtime sounds really fun, and might be really good, but I can't say it would be good for Minecraft. After all, that would completely take away your mobility, leaving you open to any kind of attack, something the game never does unless suffering from a status effect. It would also be fundamentally very strange for tools necessary for certain mechanics, in this case chiseling harder blocks like obsidian, to be entirely locked behind random chance rather than being craftable. I do really like the idea of hiding items in potted plants that need shears to be accessed, though. Even if it would only be immediately useful for adventure maps.
Not gonna lie the whole complexity of the UI and mini game added to archeology seems like a bit much. I enjoy what they landed on but some these ideas are still rad and I could still see some of them in the game especially pot storage and brush oxidization.
Even without most of these ideas I'm definitely going to set up a museum on a server and make trips to excavation sites to unearth more stuff for it. Basically I'm going to be an archaeologist once the update rolls out.
But so far the excavation items are just normal stuff. Like.. Metals n gems. Hope MC in the future add some human tools n furnitures. Like.. Doll, ceramic, etc.
I like the idea of different biomes containing different kinds of loot and even different shards. Maybe in a desert you could find a palm tree shard while in a jungle you could find one in the shape of a fern.
Love te idea of clay pots as storage. This game needs more alternatives to old favorites like chests for storage and torches for lighting. Every new and interesting containers and light sources are welcomed because they make desining interiors cooler!

I don't know what's your background experience with content creation but you're definitely going places. Ever thought of making your own game? Or at least a modpack
Thank you for the nice comment! :) I really don't know much about game coding, but you and another person have mentioned the idea of my own game. I'll say I like the idea, I'd want to make something original and complex of course. It's a possibility I suppose! :)
I really hope that we can get the blocks with the archaeology items in the creative inventory so that we can make our own archaeological sites. That would be cool!
I'm just hoping that the archeology objects isn't just random sites with a few artifacts, I'm hoping that a collection of sites in a similar area could have an over arcing story with character and the places they used to live. So we could uncover there lives, and what happened to them like a puzzle. A good example of this would be the story from the game the Outer Wilds.
I love that the animation of these videos give off a "minecraft-y" feel. The animations are slightly repetitive but not annoying, and things sometimes teleport or snap around, while still looking nice.
I like Sarc's suggestion of making the clay pots function a bit like the banners, with the player being able to choose various base colours and frame patterns before slapping the shards on. Also, just like banners, I hope that you're able to make patterns from the shards so you don't have to find each variant again
I also have an idea with the removal of oxidization. Instead of an axe, you can use a shear. (Makes sense cuz an axe is too big for a brush of course). And using the shear, you'll need an anvil to remove oxidization. Oxidized brush + Shear in an anvil = Brush. And also copper can be used to repair the brush
I love the ideas you explained in the video! I do have an idea for an item that you might be able to obtain using the archeology system: *The Geode.* Like in real life, they'll be stones of varying sizes that contain minerals- commonly quartz and other calcite crystals. The item you'll get out of it is a unique block, smaller than the size of an actual block and generally used for decorative purposes. With a pickaxe, there is an alt mode (right click) that you can use to crack open the geode. A small tune plays that indicates the rarity of the geode you just broke open and you get two *Split Geode* in return. They can be placed just like before and could possibly be smelted in a furnace to get a small amount of the type of mineral inside. Also, it would be very unique if we had archeology opportunities in the Nether as well, being able to produce rare items such as Ancient Debris.
This is amazing! I really want Minecraft to have more variety in jobs, not just for villagers, but for the player. An Entomologist would be interesting if they added more bugs to the vanilla game. I can't wait for all the updates!
With archaeology mojang should implement the feature that written books could be found at dig sites or libraries which would contain much needed information for new players. And as the game updates more and more books could be added.
With the new brush tool, we should be able to dip it in colored cauldrons. We get a little paint texture on the brush and we can change colors of blocks like planks and cobble.
@@mil3ston3s I'm sure they smell like dirt and Earth which doesn't always smell nice but if the Warden likes it I guess it's fine. But many other ores could smell the same so maybe it wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I'm really glad that archeology is coming to Minecraft because it's bringing not only new creative opportunities but also show's the player a more direct way to find historical significance in the game other than the temples and other things already there that we have seen a lot of information for already.
I really hope the jars can store stuff because I want to do builds inspired by Pompei's ancient fast food stalls. Currently using chests, but really want to use pots instead.
I wished they could implement burials too, especially because the part I'm most excited about is the storytelling you can build out of archaeological findings
This is so well done and thought out I love it. I have a few ideas of my own though. The pots could spawn in structures, thinking maybe mason houses, desert temples etc. The excavation sites could be ruined variants of old structures like desert wells and temples, they could have new chisel blocks and old pots that spawn in the build to explore. I think that the old fossils have been updated to have a rare chance of generating with coal and very rarely diamonds in them, possibly this could be another way to have new excavation sites and they could also have pot fragments in the bone. The mine shafts could also be used as a way to have underground dig sites and maybe a mine entrance above ground signalling that a dig site is there, this would give more life to the mine shafts.
'Now we all know what's being added to the game that consists of both these colors' *Bee flies in and drops off a block of copper* 'Yup.' 'I mean, even a warden can appreciate a shiny diamond' *How*
I actually made a post on the feedback site about adding some kind of Display Block not long ago. Awesome to see someone else who thinks it'd make a good addition!
I feel like this is very cool, just can’t get over the fact it feels more Java edition friendly then bedrock, at-least the hole mini-game type action of actually brushing or chiseling. Me being a bedrock player using an Xbox, I’m just not sure how the controls would work. And I like the idea of and axe and brush crafted together being able to unwax the brush, but I feel like the grindstone can also do this. Simply put a chisel in and it gets unwaxed, no need to possibly have to craft an axe along with it.
with the addition of suspicious sand and suspicious gravel, the old challenge of the artifact being destroyed if you brush away too much is replaced by a new challenge of the sand/gravel falling and being destroyed if there aren't any supporting blocks under it. maybe suspicious stones could be added, where they wouldn't fall and be destroyed, but would instead use the thing about brushing away too much causing it to be destroyed. they could also use the amethyst chisel to be chipped away at instead, cause of course you aren't going to use a brush on a rock. i think the choice of tools and their mechanics for retrieving the artifacts makes sense, because in real life, using a brush to dig away dirt from an artifact is relatively safe, while using a chisel poses the potential threat of hitting the artifact and breaking it.
I really like this style of video. It gives me a weird sort of nostalgia like I'm back in school watchin Crash Course or BrainPOP. That might just be me tho, idk.
Honestly the most disappointing announcement in the split of 1.17 was archeology being put off since I was so excited for it but hearing it might be even more complex than we thought gives me hope its really good. I like the ideas I really can't wait until this feature gets added.
When I first heard about archeology coming to Minecraft, I was immediately filled with excitement. I knew that this would become my favourite feature in the game, and you absolutely just brought it to life, hopefully Mojang considers putting these fantastic ideas into their work at some point of time in the future. *The Geode.*
Like in real life, they'll be stones of varying sizes that contain minerals- commonly quartz and other calcite crystals.
This is "Write that down, write that down!" incarnate, well done!
This part of the update is so underrated and overlooked, I thought I was the only one remembered and cared about it.
Another amazing video i was expecting... i hope that minecraft give us more "unique" rewards
Another use for the brush could be to brush a sheep to get string.
It would be really cool if you could use the brush and dyes on the pots to essentially paint each pixel of them.
With the new brush tool, we should be able to dip it in colored cauldrons. We get a little paint texture on the brush and we can change colors of blocks like planks and cobble.
genius

"Even the Warden can appreciate a good diamond"
Warden not being able to see: I'm a joke to you?
You know that noise in cartoons that shiny things make?
@@videojamiemostlikely9282 I guess but it's supposed to appreciate a shiny sound? Anything can make that noise if it's shiny enough.
diamonds smell nice
@@mil3ston3s I'm sure they smell like dirt and Earth which doesn't always smell nice but if the Warden likes it I guess it's fine. But many other ores could smell the same so maybe it wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
You are saying blind people cant like jewels?
I like the ideas although I'm not all for the bar thing the chisel and water bucket idea is neat.
2:08 the warden with the creeper and the bee are the cutest shit i've seen in a long while
Your paraphrasing gets a 4/10
I know right!
this is insanely impressive
I was about to go to sleep but that legend just uploaded. YEEEEEEY
You have no idea how excited i am for this
I love finding things in random places like when you're mining gravel and some flint pops out
Again, really good ideas! :D
Also... THAT ANIMATION!! (incredible)
I'm really glad that archeology is coming to Minecraft because it's bringing not only new creative opportunities but also show's the player a more direct way to find historical significance in the game other than the temples and other things already there that we have seen a lot of information for already.
Why is this so satisfying and pretty to look at
I really hope the jars can store stuff because I want to do builds inspired by Pompei's ancient fast food stalls. Currently using chests, but really want to use pots instead.
This is the most underrated channel on TH-cam

It is bigger then you would expect for 2 videos
I mean you're not wrong, but this channel just started out
It is not underrated, 6k with only one video? That is pretty good.

I wished they could implement burials too, especially because the part I'm most excited about is the storytelling you can build out of archaeological findings
When your channel is so good a dev shouts you out on twitter
Which Dev?
Wow, this Video really combines good theories and excellent animations
How are you not more popular on youtube? I just got reccommended this, and wow, it's such a great format!

Your channel is absolutely amazing, huge inspiration
I love your style. So unique and peaceful.
This just makes me want the fossil cleaning system from Fossil Fighters and Fossil Fighters Champions in Minecraft
I like your explanation.
It's easier to understand with the little animations.
These ideas feel like they really could become actual features in the game. I'm actually quite impressed
The idea of more colorful items like the pots are very nice and adding more vibrant colors to minecraft is a needed thing :)
2:07 Warden and Bee taking on the world!
the way your models and concepts look, it's amazing.
This is awesome! Great job!
its the 3rd video I watch from this chanel and its realy good. good job !
amazing as always, only your second video and insanely high quality I love your content ^-^
The mine shafts could also be used as a way to have underground dig sites and maybe a mine entrance above ground signalling that a dig site is there, this would give more life to the mine shafts.
already fully forgot this was gonna be part of the next update
man, you have INCREDIBLE ideas, INCREDIBLE editing and INCREDIBLE script, easy to understand and gorgeous to look

Ah, the most terrifying creature that has seen this earth. The Bee.
If you guys keep making quality videos animated like this, y'all will be one of the best minecraft channel on this site
I can only imagine the future Minecraft to be this detailed
Incredible art style. 10/10 video bye!
"I need to breathe" that was so cute
I just realized the XP bar is the perfect place to put that timing bar in. I mean, we use it for timing horse jumps, why not this as well
Step 1: Be calm
Step 2: Don't interrupting while archeology
Step 3: Reward
I actually made a post on the feedback site about adding some kind of Display Block not long ago. Awesome to see someone else who thinks it'd make a good addition!
I don't usually say this but dang you're severely underrated! This is a really well made and researched video, not to mention-- the very nice art!
I wish the update was at least half this good
Im glad you enjoy the archeology system as much as I do! Cant wait for it to come out!
This man needs to be hired at mojang
I really like this style of video. It gives me a weird sort of nostalgia like I'm back in school watchin Crash Course or BrainPOP. That might just be me tho, idk.
Honestly the most disappointing announcement in the split of 1.17 was archeology being put off since I was so excited for it but hearing it might be even more complex than we thought gives me hope its really good. I like the ideas I really can't wait until this feature gets added.
I was looking forward to bundles..
When I first heard about archeology coming to Minecraft, I was immediately filled with excitement. I knew that this would become my favourite feature in the game, and you absolutely just brought it to life, hopefully Mojang considers putting these fantastic ideas into their work at some point of time in the future.
Yet again another amazing video!
