    Hi everyone! Thank you for all the wonderful feedback & comments! Incase anyone was curious about what my next concept will be about, it'll be about how the badlands biome update could look & function! I post updates very often about my projects and how they're going on my twitter twitter.com/blockixel If you'd like to see a preview of how some of the badlands content is going, take a look at my channel community tab!
    I've also been seeing some comments about how some of my concept features displayed in this video, might not be very compatible with other Minecraft platforms like mobile for example. I suppose it's not something I thought of, me personally being a java user but I will keep other platforms in mind for future concepts! Thank you for watching & reading! Have a wonderful day! :)

      So these mechanics would stall for time and make people watch an essentially a loading bar? I mean what good can the items possibly be to be worth it? I mean sure the "real" patented uber duber gamer will give you a lesson on how much skill he has, but rely its jst a time game. And if they make it just another minigame mechanic, then it won't add much. I imaigine already people will use cheats like auto bots to do this for them and who will prove them guilty? I mean every person brushin is one less person keeping the multiplayer server active, by building to make it look good I ques and interacting with people. Remeber shops can fully operate without player in this game, with plugin or not, and selling of items individualy is a far strech in such a hard line casual and low desety server game. The items textures would probably server best to be reached in other projects for ivent items and such. I rely think there are more pressing mater Mojang should have adressed eons ago, but instead it is lusing time on essentialy empty and small game rutines that sidetrack instead of truly inovating and adding to the game. A good exaple for this consistand behavior Mojang has are the new mobs, what do polarbears do for example? Nothing, they can be defeated on the hardes difficulty right after spawning without any difficulty and drop basicly nothing, they don'teven swim or hunt or look let alone behave anyway near the real deal or in any other interesting way. They are a staple for this new and "cute" game that wants to earn hard cash money on stuff they can show onto store shelves. And don't paint me roses on this picture. They wanted to add a mod api, nope. They never went back on this promise and thats a thing going on for years and years now. Rely these new and cimicy items rely seem all like something I would overlook in a mod then anything worth wile paying attention to. I mean come on, why do plats grow undr ground? Like wow I find one block and then grow a thousend more, gona make my strip mine ten times more eco frindly I ques. And the caves scream texture pack and full bright to me. They are going to change little in terms of gameplay and I am a "grow gamer" stop trying to prove to me that a differently shapped hole is all there is to see in order to meaningfully expand the experience. Sure buildhight increase is cool and all, but after years of the voxel chunk mod and other high increasing mods from years ago. Mods that made me walk around! on scale planets with gravety! And other Minecraft clones like TestCraft I think it was called, doing toroid geometric space. Its seems so week and laughable what mojang does, that I will spare them my rant. My point is, kids are easy to impress and the midiatory have little in reason to change anything in terms of the conversation, pleas do something new and worth while.

    Nice job on the video. I think making archaeology something like a mini-game is a good shout, but I also think it's best not to overload it with too much 'bloat'; I like the idea of having to time the brush, but you wanna make sure there's not too many things the player needs to keep track of just to start excavating. For example I don't think there needs to be multiple tools that do mostly the same thing, the idea of gating progression is good, but I think that can be done without adding the same kind of item twice.

      If having a brush to clean away dirt gravel and sand and a chisel to clean away stone obsidian and other hard materials is the same to you then we should get rid of the shovel and ax and only use the pickaxe. Lol

    • @valeriot1668
      @valeriot1668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      In my opinion, the 'bloat' you are taking about it's the bucket of water, it doesn't really fit archeology (real archeologyst don't use water, it could ruin their findings), on a mechanical level switching item could feel too complicated for minecraft. The chisel its a pretty simple idea for progression, but could be spiced up with some sort of timing or ritmic minigame that changes a bit with every tipe of stone. Im not shure about the UI either, it doesn't feel very minecrafty, some kind of visual indication could be better, like particles, idk.
      Still a great video, lovely animations and models, good ideas and voice over, keep up da good work man! Hope i explained myself well enough, english is not my main language.

    You have pretty cool ideas but I feel like you're only considering the ideas themselves and not the consequences of them. For example, a minigame centered around the brushing mechanic that adds more layers overtime sounds really fun, and might be really good, but I can't say it would be good for Minecraft. After all, that would completely take away your mobility, leaving you open to any kind of attack, something the game never does unless suffering from a status effect. It would also be fundamentally very strange for tools necessary for certain mechanics, in this case chiseling harder blocks like obsidian, to be entirely locked behind random chance rather than being craftable. I do really like the idea of hiding items in potted plants that need shears to be accessed, though. Even if it would only be immediately useful for adventure maps.

    I'm just hoping that the archeology objects isn't just random sites with a few artifacts, I'm hoping that a collection of sites in a similar area could have an over arcing story with character and the places they used to live. So we could uncover there lives, and what happened to them like a puzzle. A good example of this would be the story from the game the Outer Wilds.

    I like Sarc's suggestion of making the clay pots function a bit like the banners, with the player being able to choose various base colours and frame patterns before slapping the shards on. Also, just like banners, I hope that you're able to make patterns from the shards so you don't have to find each variant again

    I also have an idea with the removal of oxidization. Instead of an axe, you can use a shear. (Makes sense cuz an axe is too big for a brush of course). And using the shear, you'll need an anvil to remove oxidization. Oxidized brush + Shear in an anvil = Brush. And also copper can be used to repair the brush

    I love the ideas you explained in the video! I do have an idea for an item that you might be able to obtain using the archeology system:
    *The Geode.*
    Like in real life, they'll be stones of varying sizes that contain minerals- commonly quartz and other calcite crystals. The item you'll get out of it is a unique block, smaller than the size of an actual block and generally used for decorative purposes.
    With a pickaxe, there is an alt mode (right click) that you can use to crack open the geode. A small tune plays that indicates the rarity of the geode you just broke open and you get two *Split Geode* in return. They can be placed just like before and could possibly be smelted in a furnace to get a small amount of the type of mineral inside.
    Also, it would be very unique if we had archeology opportunities in the Nether as well, being able to produce rare items such as Ancient Debris.

    This is so well done and thought out I love it. I have a few ideas of my own though. The pots could spawn in structures, thinking maybe mason houses, desert temples etc. The excavation sites could be ruined variants of old structures like desert wells and temples, they could have new chisel blocks and old pots that spawn in the build to explore. I think that the old fossils have been updated to have a rare chance of generating with coal and very rarely diamonds in them, possibly this could be another way to have new excavation sites and they could also have pot fragments in the bone. The mine shafts could also be used as a way to have underground dig sites and maybe a mine entrance above ground signalling that a dig site is there, this would give more life to the mine shafts.

    I feel like this is very cool, just can’t get over the fact it feels more Java edition friendly then bedrock, at-least the hole mini-game type action of actually brushing or chiseling. Me being a bedrock player using an Xbox, I’m just not sure how the controls would work. And I like the idea of and axe and brush crafted together being able to unwax the brush, but I feel like the grindstone can also do this. Simply put a chisel in and it gets unwaxed, no need to possibly have to craft an axe along with it.

  • @the_cat_the_cat
    @the_cat_the_cat ปีที่แล้ว +1

    with the addition of suspicious sand and suspicious gravel, the old challenge of the artifact being destroyed if you brush away too much is replaced by a new challenge of the sand/gravel falling and being destroyed if there aren't any supporting blocks under it. maybe suspicious stones could be added, where they wouldn't fall and be destroyed, but would instead use the thing about brushing away too much causing it to be destroyed. they could also use the amethyst chisel to be chipped away at instead, cause of course you aren't going to use a brush on a rock. i think the choice of tools and their mechanics for retrieving the artifacts makes sense, because in real life, using a brush to dig away dirt from an artifact is relatively safe, while using a chisel poses the potential threat of hitting the artifact and breaking it.
