You're killing it Erin, good on you for having a go. 👍
Thank you! ☺️
Alex, I would encourage you to rethink the side boot access. You don’t need access from both sides. You could have access from one side just for your battery system and have access on the other side for a pull out draw. I have side boot access and I fitted a slide out and everything has a place on the slide out. You could fit stackable tool storage, have a shelf for longer things such as deck chairs it is very organised and avoids the situation where you stack stuff on top of other stuff. Worth a further thought.
Thanks!
The comment at the end! I thought we'd gone a whole episode without mentioning Alex's past life 😂😂
emindes me of when i made my van but i made mine out of aluminum which is harder to work with but better in the end
Bertha will be sparkling in her checker plate real soon. Erin you look like you are having fun with all the power tools!!
She sure will be!
Thanks!
Hey guys, loving the reno series.
The number plate height law came in a few years ago and was done so your number plate can be captured by big brother's cameras. I attended a weigh in session a few months ago (NSW) and the NSW Highway Patrol was there. As my number plate is also too high (by 150mm) I asked the Police in attendance if I needed to lower it, he said as it was placed there by the manufacturer at a time the height law was not in place then no. He said it is like requiring a car built in the 1960's to comply with 2024 requirements, so I left my plate where the manufacturer placed it. This one one cop's take on the rule and in NSW.
Also with the boot why not have the best of both worlds and have front and side access. I see a BBQ slide on the side access and front access as well, just a thought. Keep making it better.
Thanks for the info mate that’s great to know!
In addition to the front access/hatch I’d definitely put a nice big access door on the side of the boot that doesn’t have the electrics 👍.
Cheers!
The reason the polystyrene is cut around the wiring is it can eat the insulation around the wires. There is actual special wiring with different insulation for use with polystyrene insulation. Also foil board is great but it requires and air gap to work properly. so the 10mm thick board with a 10mm air gap will work better than the 20mm with no air gap.
Thanks mate!
Alex, 2 things, first is when you were cutting the timber on the back, wouldn’t an electric plane have been easier ??
The second is I have just rebuilt the front of my van from water damage and have gone up the front with checker plate 👍 and I think it’s come up well , I would add a couple of pics but I can’t see how I can on this platform 😊
Yes probably could have but still would need to cut either side to avoid hitting the aluminium 👌🏼
Sounds like you’ve done a top job!
Alex. You make watching the video a lot of fun . Coupled with your sidekick Erin the caravan will be finished in no time 😀
Haha thank you!
Haha such dorks, love it!
Your doing such a great job im eagerly awaiting the end result! Lock in Camp for a Cure people!
Haha cheers guys!
I now think go OTT and checker plate the sides of your van lol
Would look good!
Another awesome video guys!! 👍👍 As already mentioned I would leave the number plate exactly where it is. Guessing it’s been there since new……so if ain’t broke don’t fix it!! 😃😃
Thanks mate! Yeah it obviously hasn’t been a problem yet since 2008!
You might need a Gvm upgrade on that floor creeper with both of you guys on it. . 😂 Great Video.
🤣 I’ll get it raised from 70kg to 150! 😂
A comp sided van might be better for insulation but to do renos its impossible , at least u can pull some alli cladding off and put it back , great show guys 👍
So true! You want to get it right from the start with the composite vans!
Huge congratulations on starting to construct the next version of Camp For A Cure. It takes a lot of dedication and time nobody sees to organise such events and to pull off annual running successful events is a massive achievement 👌 💕 Wishing you the best of success in the planning
Bunnings timber is 🤮
Thank you! Can’t wait!
Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. What about 1 front boos door and 1 side access on the left side? Either way Bertha is going to look much more modern even with the small trim to the rear.
Can’t wait for Camp for a Cure we will be there and it will actually be our take off point for full time travel.
Thanks guys!
Thats so exciting for you and can’t wait to help kick off your trip!
@@nowornever_aus going to be great event and we can't think of a better way to start our new life.
Alex. Could you not mount the toolbox on some sort of slide so you can slide it from side to side to access the boot doors, and lock it in position for traveling? Also I think there's something wrong with Alex's microphone.
Yes that definitely could be possible!
The mics are recording in mono so left for one of us and right for the other meaning whatever you are watching through is only playing one side.
Cheers!
Hi Guys,
Just wondering what silicone are you using ???
I've done a ring around and everyone is using something different. What are you using and why ????.
Thanks again, Love your videos, keep up the great work 👍🏻
Bostich v4 which we got this time from Sydney tools. Works well as it can go over existing silicones
Watch polystyrene insukation on your 240v cables. It draws the placticiser out of the cables insulation making it brittle and cracks. Either protect the cable in conduit or replace it with purple insulated cable which is special special insulation
Thank you for the tip!
Getting there guys
Thanks!
Give me some tips on how to fix a rotted part of the caravan roof fixing from the inside mate wat a shit fight lol. I have managed to frame it up just waiting on the hatch. And see how I go from there love ur work guys ❤️🇦🇺🙏
Sounds like you’ve got it pretty well sorted! They are a hard one from the inside as you’ve obviously found out! The main thing would just be finding nice trims to cover the repaired area 👍🏻
A big job coming along nicely 👌 but ok im a nut 😅 but i would have painted the timber in 2 pack west coast Apoxy system like they use on boats and makes the timber water proof incase off a future leak
Thanks! I can see the benefit in that but we’ll just make sure she’s sealed well and stays sealed to the best of our ability!
number plate and tail lights are suposed to be below 1200 mm but i believe that only a cranky cop would complain
Agreed
what isn't square the van or the cuts you did
Shouldn't you face the silver side of the insulation to the outside. As the silver side will reflect any heat.
Once under the cladding it won’t see and light so I don’t believe it should make a difference
Cheers!
Probably a dumb idea but could you build a steel frame and use heavy duty draw slides for tool box and pull it forward to open doors? 🤷♂️
The skies the limit! Would be a bit concerned about the weight of it though
Wouldnt purchase timber from Bunnings. Go to a timber yard. And don't buy PVC piping from them.
you should have seen the tree it come from
Hi guys. If you are going to put doors on how ate going to open if you gave a tool box on the front ?
Yeah that’s why we were saying we just have to see what room it left after the doors are installed 👍🏻
you are lucky i can't even read mine
Isn’t the saying Alex, measure twice cut once?😅
Haha yep that’s definitely one of them!
Hi Guys love your channel but the last 2 episodes both your microphones aren't working.
I heard them fine, are your speakers playing up, I have this problem on my kindle once in a while.
Thanks! It’s because our mics are recoding in mono (left for one right for the other) whatever you are listening through will only be playing one side 👍🏻
Noice vid... lotsa fun - subscribed to CFAC Website
Cheers!
