I think those brackets are designed to push the light bar through the grill which would require you to cut up your grill. Some people prefer that instead of hiding behind the grill but I prefer hidden to avoid cutting up my truck. I think people make brackets for hidden light bars.
OK that makes sense, ya I didn't want to cut my grill either all the light bars I've seen on Tacoma's have been behind the bumper or on top of the truck.

The light bar cost $56 from Amazon and you have to buy the bracket which cost $33 from Amazon

How much of a hassle is it to remove that black plastic piece?
Not hard at all, I used a dermal it's a tight fit but if you remove the grill then it's easy!
