A deck that utterly dominated standard so hard with it's adventure engine that it made most other decks look like chumps and got lucky clover banned. I even played a sultai adventure deck that made golgari look bad. It was literally just what golgari could do... but better. Maybe 1 turn slower but who cares when you can double/triple murderous rider to keep pressure down? I do agree that the last time I remember golgari specifically being good was all the way back with the explore deck around when the game was first coming out.

Indeed. Reason 1 is CGB is a walking contradiction (as we all are, to be fair, but most of ud don't record and publish our contradictions to tens of thousands of people). Second reason is that duress is indeed a sideboard card, which wouldn't make sense in best of one, however, there's the matchmaker. MM doesn't pair you against a random opponent. If it did, the real meta would be represented, and would make no sense to run duress main deck. But since the MM tends to pair midrange black decks against midrange black decks more than the meta would warrant, a preside boarded duress starts to make sense. So, CGB instincts is "duress main deck is bad", which is true in a real meta without MM, but also "duress main deck is efective in Magic Arena, I should exploit that" which is also true, thus the contradiction.
Since you are playing turtle and splashing red what do people think about adding a one of draconic destiny for that combo, bit greedy as it has 2 red in it's cost but does give kills out of nowhere.
I'm not familiar with how TH-cam tracks and monetizes things, so genuine question, does it make a difference on your end if I pause the video on my PC to go watch on my couch from my phone?

Missed picking up a counter on Druid around 31:00 , yeah it's a new card but one would expect an mtg content creator to be good at the game and know at least their own deck.
I've been underwhelmed by black virtue personally, like I'd rather just 2 of play the instant speed bargain spell the does the same thing as the removal mode, and and 2 breach.
totally agree, my gut says the right number is 2 or 3. wouldn't replace it with breach though, doesn't seem like the deck for it. the enchantment side of virtue is only good because it does not take up a deck slot.

I’ve seen a version around which was running a couple of “sentinel of the lost lore” - more graveyard hate and also ability to get back your cards from exile.
If you want meta decks, don't craft anything until after the first 2/3 weeks after the set release to see what happens. With all due respect, this deck never looked like it would be better than any of the midrange decks we've had before. It still has the same problems as all the other decks that are not hyper aggro or control. There is just too much removal and incidental graveyard hate to make midrange creature-based recursion decks work imo. This set doesn't look like it added anything to shake up the meta, besides maybe faeries becoming something as pushed as soldiers.
God I love watching mono red get whooped. I am so SO sick of seeing Mono red. Mono blue Djinn, and frickin Werewolves. I know that WOTC only cycled alchemy and not standard to force more people to play that format. Which sucks. Aftermath should have been an alchemy set and LOTR should have been standard!

I mean maybe it’s just me, but it sure seems like they just keep “simplifying” (for lack of a better word) everything and not for QoL reasons or to streamline redundancy either. I am curious to hear what others think…

This is the first time Golgari has been S-tier in standard since playing the game
First time I can remember since the explore deck and carnage tyrant were the meta definers around Ixalan.
It was also decent during first Eldraine with Lovestruck Beast and Murderous Rider. imo adventures fit well into midrange strategies by design.

Also adventuring dreadknight around 18:00 is strictly a misplay when you already have 3 clues lined up to grind.

Yeah, Golgari seems good vs aggro finally. Dreadknight is the grindy 2 drop it needed that is also great on defense unlike Tenacious Underdog
