I followed step by step and all it did was delete the apps I supposedly moved. However when I reinstalled the app again (HBO Max was one) it did install on the usb drive, so that's a plus! Thanks

Good video, I do it same way, when I started moving app I originally copy to clipboard and then moved them. But the move button saves steps..right on👍

Ok it worked with the SanDisk USB drive the red and Black ones. It didn't work on the other drive I was using but it moved all the ones I selected. I believe SanDisk are best choice for doing this.

This is great information. Also note that there is download and downloader folders that there are some files that are saved there as well. So I also made folders for those on my thumbstick. Since not all files that install apps will be just in the managed installed apps folder. It is a great idea to keep backups on the thumb drive. Some apps no longer work anymore. One is called Mouse, which is supposed to make it so you can click around on the screen better instead of using the left right and up and down and hitting select. It was disabled from use anymore. I hope that there is an alternative app out there that does the same thing. I did find out I could move files from a computer to the firestick using an app called sendanywhere or vice versa.

After you've added the USB storage, from that point forward, your apps should automatically get installed on the USB. Keep in mind, a few apps will not install there (not sure exactly which ones, it's trial & error).
This video is mostly how to move them after you've installed them on Internal but before you added the USB storage. I hope that makes sense?
Hey let me ask you a question ok I have fire 4k tv so the fire stick is built in and file format for usb is fat32
So fat32 only can play 4gb of memory
Is there a way to play exfat so I can play larger files greater than 4gb on my fire tv or on a fire stick?

This is what I have been looking for! This is the best Firestick video I ever watched! I followed your directions to a "T"! I have 16 stations in my home. Everyone has both ROKU and Amazon Firestick, 8 of them are high end monitors with high end custom built computers. Here is the one thing that is not the same as your video. After the app is moved and installed on the USB device, I click "Done" and the screen where you can delete the install file never show up. Can you tell me how to delete all these install files?

Fine job in your video. I've done this several times on several firesticks until today. The apps don't move!!! The USB is available and is formatted. I even reset the stick a second time. 61.51 GB of 61.51 GB is available.
Which Firestick are you having trouble with? I heard the new FireOS version 8 devices had some permissions issues with certain file explorer apps like the one I show in this video, but I haven't tried it yet.
I followed your instructions, step by step. And cannot transfer any of my apps to the external storage. I double checked on my computer and it’s set to a default of FAT32. When I open X-plots. It reads the internal storage as the same free space on both and left side. I don’t see where it has 32gb on either side.
I want to thank you for your hard work. I just tried your technique on an Insignia TV running Fire OS 7, with the USB drive plugged into the only port the TV has. The app I tried moving appeared to go as predicted with the move option and confirmed the resulting uninstall that you illustrated in your video.

I am having to issues… The first issue is I have moved over all my apps to External storage and have deleted the APKs but my system memory still shows the internal drive is almost full after the apps and aPK’s have been deleted off the fire stick. Why is this. My second problem is after I move the apps to the external drive is now the logos do not seem to show they are grayed out and have like a horizontal line through them how can I fix this
When my icons vanished, I clicked on the gray icon and the app opened normally.
When I looked at the icon after first post-move use, the regular one returned on its own.
i have added usb storage but when i tried to move tvmob firestick to external storage nothing happened, is tvmob one of those apps i can't move?

I downloaded the X-plore app. When I click on internal shared storage on the right side, there is no downloader folder, only download. What did I do wrong? FireTV stick 4K OS6.

I have another question I noticed that after moving a file from Firestick to external storage that it moves ok to my USB but it is still showing on the left side in the app manager. I noticed near the end of your video that Distro was still showing installed on the left in App Manager? Is this normal?
I have moved Disney+ to usb storage on my firestick max first generation and I’m getting an error message stating that I don’t have enough space to update it. I have plenty of space available. Disney + is not the only app that does this. Express vpn also gives me the same message. Thoughts, suggestions?
Hey so I don't know if it's supposed to be like this but in the video it just looks like you moved it right back to where it was in internal storage and not the _EXTERNAL_ drive. Am I supposed to do exactly like in this video and move it to the internal drive? Or do I have to create a "Downloader" folder in my external?
It did the same thing for me as well but even if I created a download folder on my external it still installed on the firestick. Not sure what to do.

Do you copy the app to an external storage or move it completely? I'm asking because I want to copy some apps from a fire stick to another source, on to another fire stick but without deleting it from that first fire stick.
Yes, you copy only, so make sure not to click that box that says "move", because that will delete it from the original (source) firestick.
Hi I sorry for asking again I feel I need to explain myself for the reason I'm asking I have ADHD and its hard for me to get thing sunk I my head I'm trying to be able to move apps properly to a usb drive so I can take the usb to my mum's a be able to use it there with my app on her firestick. Using a firestick 4K I followed all instructions carefully. was able to get to the downloader and app manager but when I choose a file to move you said press the middle button. Where is the button to press. If i press the middle home screen button it goes home. If i press the button in the circle it treis to install and goes to the app. If I press the button under the home screen it does nothing. Which button are you pressing. Please help..

Thanks for this, but does anyone know how to update apps installed on external USB? ie. Disney+ keeps saying it needs to be updated but cant figure out how to update apps. Do I need to uninstall then reinstall the app? Is there a better way that will keep my apps on external USB updated?
I think you need to update your Firestick with the new version and move it again. The App Store Downloader can’t see the old version on your external storage I believe.

I'm having the same issue. I tried changing permissions for those apps but it still will not update saying that there is not enough space. I've freed up over 2 gigs on my firestick. Only way to update is move it back to main storage then update and move back. There's got to be a better way.
Hi, I am bit confused ( or dumb) here. On your screen you have LH and RH and both are headed :Internal shared storage" and... both are shown to have the same free capacity of 2.9Gb. Aren't you simply moving the app from Downloader and back into Downloader on your Firestick rather than to an external storage connected to the Firestick?

You first need an OTA cable and when you attach the USB you need to format it as external storage. There are more steps that he shows in other videos he has posted and you need to follow all the steps exactly. Several “helper” apps all have to be enabled and turned on as well.

I hate to be blunt, but it's time to buy a new Firestick. The FireOS7 and 8 are far superior performers.
How can I download a movie from a 3rd party app (Cinema HD) to my external drive? Do I first format the external storage to combine with internal storage or leave them seperate?
Seperate is fine, but you want to have a LOT of external storage space to record full length stuff.
I followed your step on moving the apps, however it installed it back to the internal storage. How to change the settings to have any new apps installed onto the USB?

If you did everything correctly, the newly installed apps that CAN be installed on USB will be. Not all can.
@@CordCuttersLI I downloaded DistroTV, the same you, and it also installed back tot the internal USB with no USB icon in the manage application list.
I followed your instructions exactly but my apps are not moving to my external drive. After selecting install it goes through the process when it has finished I select done and when I go back to the x plore screen the app reinstalls to the left panel and when I go to manage installed apps it is still on the internal drive and no space has been used on the external drive. Would like to see what is wrong

It's good if you just want to erase and store for later. But you have to reinstall your favorite apps to get them to the USB. Even then my apps were acting up crashing and taking their time to play.
It's definitely true that some apps work better on internal system storage, but that also depends on the quality of the USB drive you use, and the newer Model Firesticks seem to do a better job at reading/writing to the USB storage than the earlier ones.
Why not move certain apps like the K word to external storage. If running a vpn does it not work properly on external storage apps?
The speed of USB 2.0 is a bottleneck and can cause issues if itsbinstalled on it. Performance is better on internal system storage
I moved the apps to my external storage, the internal memory states it has 2.95GB of memory available, my external space has 29.35GB of memory available. My ESPN and Hulu apps stated they needed an update but both say 'Not Enough Space' and it asks me to manage apps to free up memory. Is there a work-around for this?
