When Cat 5 device connected straight to FS. No problems with speeds/ connection, wired vs. Wi-Fi. Using extra space set up, only allows me Wi-Fi speeds. Removing OTG set up gives me wired speeds. Hi Tanya, I really enjoy your videos. I find them very easy to follow and informative. I am having a problem with my Firestick 4k not recognizing my usb flash drive. I have used two different OTG connectors and three different usb flash drives and my firestick does not recognize them. I have followed your instructions by formatting each of the drives to fat32. I have also checked all connections, restarted my firestick by unplugging it and after it starts then connecting the usb flash drive. It does not recognize it. I am at wits end! I think the problem was I put in a wrong number when going through the shell process. The USB drive now works! I used the Xplore to move several applications to the USB drive successfully. The storage on my Firestick has increased considerably as a result. When viewing Manage applications it indicates those applications are in the USB drive. However, strangely the Firestick does not indicate the USB drive in my Firestick storage. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as it is working. Thank you again, Tanya, for your videos. You do a very thorough job in explaining details and giving very clear instructions. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work! Jack

I just purchased a Fire TV (Not the Stick) OS 7 / 2GB Ram / CPU : Media Tek T31 Quad Core-1.5 Ghz / GPU: Mali G-52 / RAM: 2GB / Android 9 Pie / 8GB Internal storage / ..There is a USB port in the back of the TV for external storage. I have found very little information on the recommended size but have read a 128GB 3.0 Flash Drive can be used ! QUESTION : Can I install a 1-2TB external hard drive to this USB port in the back of the TV or is this port limited ?? As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. However, I cannot find anywhere that offers me the option of downloading content viewed on FireStick to the actual FireStick. This is absolutely great! I may get one of these storage firesticks. I have a question for you, I am hooked up to a Samsung TV and I have a firestick connected wirelessly to high speed router. I have a fast router and cable service, but when I want to watch a movie, it periodically gets frozen and a blue circle. if I connect a cable to my from my firestick directly to the router, will the download time for a movie be faster? USB DRIVE NO WORKY - I bought that exact 2TB drive - Toshiba, through the link in the video description. Formatted it with my PC, using AOMEI partition assistant - to FAT32. Plugged in to my Firestick 4K Max -- NOT recognized by the firestick. Did everything I could, plugging directly into outlet, all connections, etc. The Firestick is only 3 days old. When that drive is plugged into PC - works flawlessly. But into the Firestick - makes a click sound every 5 seconds, and never gets recognized. My theory - that it just does not get enough power through the OTG adapter. Failed experiment - I think I'll have to stay to 256 GB and lower, which I believe Amazon suggests. Unless I want to gamble on a powered OTG USB hub gadget and try again? Should I do that"

Bought the UGREEN adapter but it's not getting any power when I plugged it in as you suggested with the OTG cable. Plugged it into my laptop and the power light came on and it worked. I guess I'm stuffed on this one.
When the UGREEN is used with the Firestick, are you powering the Firestick via a power outlet (rather than a USB port on the TV)? I have found recently with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max in particular that the light does not come on right away with the UGREEN Multi USB Hub. However, after waiting a few minutes, the light does come on. You can also try giving each connection a little wiggle - it sounds daft, but this can help to reset the link and make the power light come on.

You can fix this issue by one of 2 ways: 1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST. 2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Then when everything has loaded back up, plug your external memory in. One of these methods should resolve this for you. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Content that is available in the US only will not work unless you u se a VPN to trick your internet into thinking you are still in the US. Peacock for example is only available within the United States and certain U.S. territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marian Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Fire TV devices use the FAT32 file system, which has a maximum file size limit of 4 GB. However, the exception is the 3rd Gen Fire TV Cube - amzn.to/3HxZqoK. It has a full-sized USB port and supports USB drives formatted as NTFS (max size 256 TB). This means that files larger than 4GB are supported.
I must be doing something wrong. Here is what I want to do. I have a lot of Digital Video files as MP4's. I wanted to connect a Seagate 2TB External HDD to my FireStick so I could load it up with my videos and watch them off of the FireStick. I know it has to be formatted to FAT32, and I use MX Player to access what's on the USB Hard Drive through my FireStick. When I connect one of my 256gb Thumb Drives, everything works flawlessly, I can disconnect it from my FireStick...bring it to my computer...add or delete video files to it...and every time I bring it back to my FireStick it recognizes it and loads up whatever content I changed it to on my computer. When I try this with the 2TB External Seagate Drive, I open MX Player and I see "No Video's Found". It won't even show up in the properties of the FireStick as "storage", but my 256gb Thumb drive will. It's believed that the FireStick CAN handle a 2TB External USB Drive (it's USB 3.1 by the way), but I just can't get it to work. Should I be able to use it the same way that I can my 256gb Thumb Drive, but just with much more storage? It doesn't have it's own power supply, it's USB powered only. Could it be that it's too large for the power that USB provides it? I don't know of how to add a power supply to it, if that would work.
Are the files on the 2TB drive larger than 4GB? FAT32 file system does not support files larger than this. If this is an issue for you, you could bypass using an external drive altogether by sharing the files on your computer over your local network. Share the folder/drive on your internal network. So long as your computer and Firestick are connected to the same home network, you can use a media player such as VLC, MX Player or Kodi to access the files on the shared folder on your computer.
I do not sorry but in general, the 2nd Gen id Fire OS5, the 4K Firestick is Fire OS 6 and the new Firestick Lite & 4K Max are Fire OS 7. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Hi. Once l connected a 32 gb memory stick to my firestick following advice, the firestick starting booting in a loop. Once l disconnect the memory stick, the firestick is working fine. I formatted the memory stick accordingly.
This sounds like a power issue. How is your Firestick powered? Are you using the original power cord and plug that came in the box? If not, please use the original power supply. If that's not possible, try replacing your current power cord and/or plug. What size storage are you using? If your storage is too large, it may require additional power.

I am having a problem with my Firestick 4k not recognizing my usb flash drive. I have used two different OTG connectors and three different usb flash drives and my firestick does not recognize them. I have followed your instructions by formatting each of the drives to fat32. I have also checked all connections, restarted my firestick by unplugging it and after it starts then connecting the usb flash drive. It does not recognize it. I am at wits end! @@FireTVSticks Hi Tanya, Thank you for responding to my issue. I am using SanDisk USB drive. Since my message to you I went back through every step again. I think the problem was I put in a wrong number when going through the shell process. The USB drive now works! I used the Xplore to move several applications to the USB drive successfully. The storage on my Firestick has increased considerably as a result. When viewing Manage applications it indicates those applications are in the USB drive. However, strangely the Firestick does not indicate the USB drive in my Firestick storage. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as it is working.

I just purchased a Fire TV (Not the Stick) OS 7 / 2GB Ram / CPU : Media Tek T31 Quad Core-1.5 Ghz / GPU: Mali G-52 / RAM: 2GB / Android 9 Pie / 8GB Internal storage / ..There is a USB port in the back of the TV for external storage. I have found very little information on the recommended size but have read a 128GB 3.0 Flash Drive can be used ! QUESTION : Can I install a 1-2TB external hard drive to this USB port in the back of the TV or is this port limited ?? Accordingly, how do I know what size (GB) limitation is on this built-in USB Port cause I just don't know ?? TY and I'm Subbed in with a BELL RING !!
As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.

However, I cannot find anywhere that offers me the option of downloading content viewed on FireStick to the actual FireStick. This is absolutely great! I may get one of these storage firesticks. I have a question for you, I am hooked up to a Samsung TV and I have a firestick connected wirelessly to high speed router. I have a fast router and cable service, but when I want to watch a movie, it periodically gets frozen and a blue circle. if I connect a cable to my from my firestick directly to the router, will the download time for a movie be faster? I wish there was a way to add folders onto a Fire TV Sticks to organise all the apps in all this added memory. Seems so odd that it can’t be done.

USB DRIVE NO WORKY - I bought that exact 2TB drive - Toshiba, through the link in the video description. Formatted it with my PC, using AOMEI partition assistant - to FAT32. Plugged in to my Firestick 4K Max -- NOT recognized by the firestick. Did everything I could, plugging directly into outlet, all connections, etc. The Firestick is only 3 days old.
When that drive is plugged into PC - works flawlessly. But into the Firestick - makes a click sound every 5 seconds, and never gets recognized. My theory - that it just does not get enough power through the OTG adapter.
Failed experiment - I think I'll have to stay to 256 GB and lower, which I believe Amazon suggests. Unless I want to gamble on a powered OTG USB hub gadget and try again? Should I do that"

A 2TB drive is excellent for storing and sharing files but may not be a perfect solution for everyone.
Bought the UGREEN adapter but it's not getting any power when I plugged it in as you suggested with the OTG cable. Plugged it into my laptop and the power light came on and it worked. I guess I'm stuffed on this one.
When the UGREEN is used with the Firestick, are you powering the Firestick via a power outlet (rather than a USB port on the TV)?
I have found recently with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max in particular that the light does not come on right away with the UGREEN Multi USB Hub.
However, after waiting a few minutes, the light does come on.
You can also try giving each connection a little wiggle - it sounds daft, but this can help to reset the link and make the power light come on.

You can fix this issue by one of 2 ways:
1) Power down and unplug everything and then plug everything back together BEFORE powering on. Once, everything is connected, plug the power in LAST.
2) Unplug everything and DO NOT plug in your external memory. Plug your Firestick back in and power it up WITHOUT the external memory. Then when everything has loaded back up, plug your external memory in.

I took my fire stick to Canada in August and it worked fine
Content that is available in the US only will not work unless you u se a VPN to trick your internet into thinking you are still in the US. Peacock for example is only available within the United States and certain U.S. territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marian Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). If you are outside of these areas, Peacock will not work. For apps that aren't restricted to a specific location, they will work fine. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Fire TV devices use the FAT32 file system, which has a maximum file size limit of 4 GB.
However, the exception is the 3rd Gen Fire TV Cube - amzn.to/3HxZqoK.
It has a full-sized USB port and supports USB drives formatted as NTFS (max size 256 TB). This means that files larger than 4GB are supported.

I must be doing something wrong. Here is what I want to do. I have a lot of Digital Video files as MP4's. I wanted to connect a Seagate 2TB External HDD to my FireStick so I could load it up with my videos and watch them off of the FireStick. I know it has to be formatted to FAT32, and I use MX Player to access what's on the USB Hard Drive through my FireStick. When I connect one of my 256gb Thumb Drives, everything works flawlessly, I can disconnect it from my FireStick...bring it to my computer...add or delete video files to it...and every time I bring it back to my FireStick it recognizes it and loads up whatever content I changed it to on my computer. When I try this with the 2TB External Seagate Drive, I open MX Player and I see "No Video's Found". It won't even show up in the properties of the FireStick as "storage", but my 256gb Thumb drive will. It's believed that the FireStick CAN handle a 2TB External USB Drive (it's USB 3.1 by the way), but I just can't get it to work. Should I be able to use it the same way that I can my 256gb Thumb Drive, but just with much more storage? It doesn't have it's own power supply, it's USB powered only. Could it be that it's too large for the power that USB provides it? I don't know of how to add a power supply to it, if that would work.
Are the files on the 2TB drive larger than 4GB? FAT32 file system does not support files larger than this.
If this is an issue for you, you could bypass using an external drive altogether by sharing the files on your computer over your local network.
Share the folder/drive on your internal network. So long as your computer and Firestick are connected to the same home network, you can use a media player such as VLC, MX Player or Kodi to access the files on the shared folder on your computer.

I've tried everything. xplore does not recognize my external storage. it is formatted to FAT32 through the app AOMEI. Ive tried the OG cable as well as the small adapter. Not working. it also cuts off my ethernet cable and forces me to use WIFI. Please help.

Hi. Once l connected a 32 gb memory stick to my firestick following advice, the firestick starting booting in a loop. Once l disconnect the memory stick, the firestick is working fine. I formatted the memory stick accordingly.
This sounds like a power issue.
How is your Firestick powered? Are you using the original power cord and plug that came in the box? If not, please use the original power supply. If that's not possible, try replacing your current power cord and/or plug.
What size storage are you using? If your storage is too large, it may require additional power.
