    You made this video 5 years ago about finding your style with 3 words and now Allison Bornstein is blowing up on TikTok talking about choosing 3 words but you seem to be the OG.

    This exercise really makes you think outside of just personal tastes, I like it. I'd say confidence, grit and grace. And, that means I must attempt to define what those things look like as a style. Very interesting!

    Excellent video Lauren!
    Your point about 'being judged' is powerful. This happens naturally. Even if a person is not 'being judgemental' of you they naturally form an opinion of you - even if it is subconsciously. Love this challenge too!

    What an interesting way to look at or think about fashion. I love it! I have always liked fashion but never thought of it as a tool and a way to drive my wardrobe choices. Cool. Thanks!

    effortless, cohesive, unique, feminine(not ultra feminine or girly) sorry I added one extra.
    thanks for the video, usually when people ask me what my personal style is, I don't ever know what to say cos I can never stick to one personal style. this video has made me realize that I care more about how whatever I'm wearing on the day feels like (hope I'm making sense) and these words reflect the vibe I hope I'm sending out, whether I'm rocking jeans or a suit.

    My words are Original, Chic, Confident. I also want my clothes to not convey this to others but simply be timeless (to an extent... I am not a trendy person, I don't think it's bad, but people tend to just follow suit with "what's in"), good quality (certain brands or stores cater to fast fashion so their pieces tend to be rushed and without good craftsmanship) and comfortable (it has to fit right and the materials cannot feel uncomfortable).

    • @melissafischer3850
      @melissafischer3850 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Naomi that sounds fantastic. I don’t know much about fashion but I think, that going with every trend is nothing about style. The fact that you got an own style is more than most people could say about themselves.

    Great question! While I have three words for my style (classic, elegant, comfortable) those are not what I would say I want other to know about me. My three words for that would be confident, intelligent, pretty. This is a great exercise and I think I may keep refining my words as I think more about it. Please do a video on how style for our words!

    This is interesting. My first reaction is that I dress to be comfortable, since I never wear heels or uncomfortable shoes. But when I am just hanging around at home I wear baggy sweats and a t shirt and no bra because it's the most comfortable and no one sees me. But when I go out of the house I wear jeans and a nicer top (still comfy) with a bra, and some makeup. So obviously there must be more to it than comfort or else I'd wear my baggy house clothes everywhere.
    A lot of my dressing is for what I DON'T want, rather than what I want.
    I don't want to be looked at as lazy or dirty or gross, I don't want to be ignored when I try to go in a store or a business, so I do make some effort to look sane, responsible, and like I give a fuck about life. So I guess #1 is trying to pass for normal so that I can get a little respect and move about my business safely and efficiently. I view the world as an emotional battlefield almost, an obstacle course to endure and survive.. So my clothes are like a cloak of protection in a way, I want to blend in just enough to not receive negative attention and not have people ruin my day..
    #2 is I don't want to look ugly. I don't ever think I am capable of looking pretty, but I do aim for "not ugly". Then #3 is where I try to have some uniqueness and creativity. I want to be seen as artistic and interesting, but subtly, not Miss Crazypants.
    And always ALWAYS want to avoid looking like I am trying too hard. Even when I was younger and dressed cooler and bolder, I always wanted to not look like I tried too hard.
    In my mind, looking like you tried TOO hard and looking like you are too THIRSTY for attention is the kiss of death in any look. It's the opposite of cool. You sometimes have to put in a lot more effort to make it look 'easy" and cool like you have more interesting things to do.

    I love accessories and sunglasses but I never know how to wear them. Is there a particular style for each type of sunglasses, necklaces, and other accessories?
    Can you please do a video about that ? It would be amazing!

    Can't narrow it down quite to three, partly because my style hinges on internal contradictions (ex. modest/attention-grabbing) for interest. The six words I would use are *bold, eccentric, shameless, modest, sensual, and alluring.*
    My signature pieces are flowy, sheer, and strongly inspired by hijabi clothing, but in sheer fabrics or with slitted designs that show rather a lot in little hints and glimpses. (I design a lot of my own clothing.)

    Hi Lauren, love your advice; I am wondering if you could do a video on how to deal with "haters". Meaning, I try to dress polished, super professional and fashionable/stylish. I find that woman do not respond well to this and find woman who like to look good intimidating. This has effected me in trying to get jobs ran by women or interviews with them. I feel like dressing down is the only way other woman feel comfortable including me. I want to be seen by people in the ways you describe in your videos and yourself but I feel like it works against me? What should I stay true to if its having a negative effect?

    • @DoctorGeri
      @DoctorGeri 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Constance Goldwing
      Personally, I find that other women like style and are not intimidated by it. Perhaps you could ask yourself this, "How can I look good and still be approachable?"
      Stay stylish and beautiful ... physically and in personality!
      When women start coming up to you saying, "I love your (dress, scarf, etc.). Where did you get it?" you will know that you have succeeded!

    I find that when you start a new job it's never a good idea to look too powerful - too successful. Also, you don't want to look like your husband earns a lot of money and your pay cheque is petty cash. You can't look or dress better than your boss and even your peers. It feels like you need to under-dress. Sometimes not fair.
