My Recap: 1. Have a #signature look 2. #Polished and Well Groomed 3. Quality wardrobe 4. Dark color 5. High contrast with bold #accessories 6. No patterns 7. Adapt to the environment
As a 63 year old who worked many years in the corporate world, I like what you have to say. However, I am also six foot tall, so I look more powerful than most women due to my height. I love wearing bright colors and bold patterns, and I think as a larger woman, I can do that. It’s always been a real power move when I put on 2 inch heels and can look down at some men. I don’t do that much any more, (1)because it’s hard on my old feet, and (2) because I don’t need to be dominating anymore! I just FEEL powerful now, and don’t worry about other people’s perceptions.
I'm also 6 ft and in my experience it really helps to be as tall or even taller than most men because it practically forces them to take you more seriously. Wearing heels (preverably those that make noise) really closes the deal.
Don't agree with everything here. White suits look super powerful, not always dark colors. I agree quality fabrics look powerful but sometimes you can find them at cheap stores! Just don't buy stuff that LOOKS cheap.
Another way to show power is to always be prepared for anything in life. I always carry a pair of extra shoes in my tote bag, extra-absobent pads (Always), makeup remover solution (small bottle), small clean wipes, and a mini palette of eye colors. So if I'm at work or on the go I can change it up. Plus, three snack bars and a water bottle. My colleagues always be thanking me 'cause I always come prepare to work (I know how easy it's for me but they sometimes having like water bottle, a snack bar, a sandwich, or band aids at reach, not everyone can remember it when leaving home early in the morning). TH-camrs stay strong, stay confident and always be prepare 😄👍🥤
“Cheap ass clothes” sorry that’s a bit rude not everyone can afford expensive clothes and anyway H&M has some lovely great quality pieces that could also convey power, and it’s not even that cheap it can be quite expensive to some and can actually be pricey depending on what you want. You need to acknowledge how someone who can only afford to shop at those places may feel seeing this? Money does not buy taste, I can assure anyone watching this they can look powerful on a budget too!
Well, yes, but she’s not talking about what you should or shouldn’t wear. She’s talking about power. Fact is - it’s really difficult to look powerful in fast fashion.
@@anacristinafonseca8891 Of course she isn’t I did not imply that, I know she’s not saying that but it makes people who cannot afford expensive clothing feel guilty or bad/embarrassed about themselves. Fact is - the price of your clothing does not make you look powerful, it’s got nothing to do with looking powerful, you can get a similar sort of “powerful” looking piece for a lower price eg a suit/blazer ect and no one would be able to tell the price but may consider the outfit to look powerful. It’s about finding the right pieces, decent quality (can be found at a lower budget) how you style it and importantly the person wearing it.
@@aman8086 True, but note that neither Lauren nor me ever talked about the pricetag. I was referring to the concept of fast fashion (which can actually be quite expensive, as proven by Zara), where the clothes are poorly constructed because they’re not meant to last, they look very “trendy” because they’re meant to be outdated in two weeks. That is the sort of clothing I call “cheap ass”, and I believe that’s what Lauren meant too. Of course, it is completely possible to find really good pieces even in fast fashion, and if you’re creative you can look beautiful and powerful even with a whole wardrobe purchased from forever 21, h&m and the likes. That’s why I said it’s difficult, not impossible, to look powerful in fast fashion. HOWEVER, if it is possible where you live, I believe the best option for people with small budgets (like myself) is to purchase clothes from small shops. At least in my city, they have pricetags to compete with fast fashion, but are A WHOLE WORLD away in quality, because they’re sewn here, by people I can meet and I know live good enough lives, not by some underpaid person in a overseas country with poor labor laws. Of course, I’m not saying it is more ethical to buy from these small shops because there’s a whole line of production, for the fabrics and whatnot, I’m not discussing that. I’m just saying at least in my country you can get much better clothing purchasing from local brands while still not paying too much.
@@anacristinafonseca8891 there’s plenty of fast fashion which is good quality, it’s not all poorly made, I believe a lot of this is down to the individual, I have had many fast fashion pieces for years and they have lasted well. Also it’s very easy to find classic silhouettes in stores, for example a classic dress or pair of pants - it depends what you go for, if you are quick to follow trends then of course that will not be beneficial in the end when the piece is no longer in trend. I don’t believe it’s difficult to look powerful at all in fast fashion, I could create a powerful outfit within a few minutes, in online / in store with fast fashion companies. I do believe it is good to buy from smaller businesses but at the end of the day, it may be more accessible for people to buy from stores such as Zara, H&M ect. I feel like perhaps she could have elaborated on this and explained this in a better manner rather than using the comment “cheap ass clothes” clearly I am not the only one who saw this as quite rude - either way she could acknowledge that these options can be just as good and a powerful look can still be achieved, even without tailoring.
Funny thing. I was thinking your dark dress with the contrasting pattern looks powerful... but then I realized I was spending the whole video looking at and thinking about the floral print on your dress! Lol .point taken
Thanks Lauren. I will just add that the perception of power varies with societies. I am African and in my country, we love our fabrics with lots of colours and patterns, but the styles are conservative i.e. not revealing in the workplace.
Omg... I've been dressing like this for the past 10 years and didn't realise I was dressing powerfully.... Eye opener :No wonder people hold back in approaching me. Thanks for the explanation. Now I have a name behind dressing for work.... 😁

A black turtle neck top, red lip, eye liner, statement accessory with closed foot wear preferably heels is my go to. The moment I put the red lip on makes a huge difference.
I think that you forgot to mention a very important note. It’s not the store that u shop in, its the type of clothes u wear. Not everyone can afford brands so some will have to stick to f21 and h&m. However, knowing exactly what pieces to wear is where the catch. If u wear a really nice dress from h&m with some really nice shoes and statement bag u automatically take that $30 dress to a whole new level. It’s all about knowing what to wear and how to wear it.

To be accurate Melania wore heels as she walked to the plane...When she landed at the hurricane site, she had switched to sneakers and a baseball cap. Melania and Michele had to be extremely careful about the way they dressed.
Agreed, and I do that travling to and from my job in all kinds of weather - and my job requires walking business casual on some clinical days and polished low heels on corporate days. TALK ABOUT ADAPTING. L M A O
yes, always forget the entire story and uninformed people like to spread the misinformation the fact that Mesiah couldn't get her facts straight shows absolutely no power but a lowly hater instead. unsubscribed!!!!
Correction: Mrs. Trump boarded the plane in D.C. in heels, but when she actually arrived at the disaster site, she was wearing practical shoes. Your bias is showing. Please be accurate. Accuracy is power. Thank you.
Great advice! Speaking of patterns (or no patterns...), I found out that with my curly hair there is already a lot going on around my face. When I wear simple, monochrome outfits oder maybe stripes, I feel that the focus is more on me and my face instead of the multiple colours in a pattern. So you should take your hairstyle into consideration too!
To look powerful all one has to do is dress like they respect themselves ie. colors coordinate, fit properly, are ironed,.hair and nails are well groomed, shoes are clean and or polished and of course, dressed properly for the occasion. How a person dresses when they are just hanging out on a daily bases shows how someone really thinks of themselves all the time, not just when they want to impress someone. True power comes from the aura of the person. The person makes the clothes, the clothes do not make the person, clothes are only an expression of the person..
Thanks for this, I’m actually looking to carry myself with more of a sense of power because I clearly don’t exude confidence. I look someone you can tell off, and I’m looking to change that. Excellent video!
If having a predictable look means know who you are, does the converse hold (I.e. does not having a predictable look mean that you don't know who you are, does changeability mean a person doesn't know who he or she is). I feel that change/evolution can easily happen from the stable place of self knowledge when the is not so attached to what he or she feels is right that they fail to see things objectively. I feel that being a person who is open to new ideas, preferences, experiences and constantly exposes him or herself to newness and open enough to extract from every new experience something which they feel is beneficial and not affraid to revise previously held ideas because we constantly improve and humble, confident and self assured people have no problem with admitting to a better idea or thing than what they previously thought was the best for them. Some people also have multiple opposing aspects to them, and are aware and embracing of a their duality or multiple aspects). This makes such people appear to be confused about who they are just because other people are confused (mistaking their own confusion for the confusion of the person about themselves).
Authenticity is powerful, as is confidence. Wearing something with personality and style is memorable. Yes these are great tips but if you don't infuse it with your personal style and comfort in who you are you can also just look boring.
These are very subjective. Honestly, wear a paper bag dress, and you will turn heads like Ghandi. The key is to act confident, NOT to provide a façade of being so.
Sometimes the "paper bag" method works. I am confident, and homey. Other times, I dress up a bit, to give myself an extra boost of pizzazz. I get insecure, like you or anyone else. It's a natural feeling, so sometimes, I just gotta put myself out there. Being comfortable with being vulnerable is key for self confidence. I learned staying in a safe shield doesn't always make me the self assured person I wish to be.
Sexylawyer Blakgerman the confidence is important and takes priority. Dressing up is and additional boost, not something that we should depend on Kids, adults. You me. We sometimes think clothes define who we are, or influence how to behave. No. Clothes are to express, not to define. WE influence our own confidence, not because of clothes. Grandi (Ghandi oops) wore shabby clothes. It humbles him to find confidence in things that are not materialistic, but wholesome and priceless feelings like love and unity.
Power is in your attitude & how you carry yourself. I have seen people command power wearing jeans, tee shirts and sneakers. I don't like to wear makeup and will dress how I please, patterns, no-patterns, light colors, dark colors, hair up, hair down..whatever.
Great video 👍🏾. However I do not agree with the whole ‘wearing dark colors’. As somebody who loves to wear color, I would use it to stand out and make a -powerful - statement.
PeggyST Well, How about dark colors with a splash of deeply saturated color near the face. Example: Dark suit with a deep plumb shirt? Or a deep emerald green scarf tied creatively?
This was a great reminder of styling yourself. I especially think that assertiveness is directly tied to how we present ourselves, which is quite fitting for us as women :) Thanks for sharing! Sending love and light from Toronto, Canada
Opps, Lauren, Melanie left D.C. in heels, but when she landed at the disaster site she had switched to tennis shoes. She always looks classy and put together. Michelle O. Sometimes wore clothes a bit to tight or inappropriate for the occasion. Let’s be fair here, Girlfriend. Maybe a new subscriber
Great tips! I’ve been wearing more dresses at work since everyone on the team is a dress-a-holic. I do have some pattern tights that I wear with solid black dresses since our dress code is strict and requires black only. It makes a minimalist wardrobe so much easier if you stick to neutrals!
Tiffiany Collier Agreed, Anna Wintour does love her prints, but the contrast between the splashy colors and the heavily tailored cut of her dresses gives her look great power. Let's not forget about the signature bob she's had for 30+ years and the large framed sunglasses. Constrast, composition and consistency are key elements to a power look.
Excellent tips, Lauren and I do agree that being aware of your environment and adapting one’s clothing to suit is not just classy but also respectful of those you’re meeting. Your examples were spot on.
1. signature look 2. groomed well 3. quality > quality 4. dark colors 5. contrast with confident colors or accessories 6. no pattern 7. dress according to the social situation and environment
Politics aside - Melania wore her heels from the White House to Air Force One to show respect for her environment. She changed to sneakers as she reached her destination.
You are contradicting yourself ....no prints yet you wearing prints...dark colours yet you mentioning Mrs Obama bright colour ensembles ...people in politics are not the only ones of power ....poor examples....
What's wrong with H&M ? They have some good peaces , if you can style your clothes and take care of them you can look expensive . Unless you wear the tags with your clothes it doesn't know how much it cost . An expensive clothing can look just as shitty as a cheap one if you don't know how to wear them.
It wasnt Melanias shoe the media was talking about. They were talking about her coat, because on the back it was written "I really dont care, do you?". She went there to send the message that she cared and end it up showing with that coat. *It would be much more useful if you pointed out that clothes with quotes and phrases should be picked very carefully, or you could end up like Melania*
In regard to the Melania's style issue -- overall what I have seen of Melania's attire choices have been spot on, elegant, and truly representative of how America's FLOTUS should be perceived on the world stage. However, in this time of such extreme polarization in our society, it would be prudent NOT to use political figures as examples of how not to dress.
Lauren--Please take my comment with the mad respect I have for you and as bit of image advice to help you preserve and grow your brand and business. I would be the LAST, laaaaaaaast person to defend anyone in the current administration, but your message about what NOT to do using Melania Trump as an example would've been a million times more effective if you had contrasted her look (and only hers) at the event in which she showed up in stiletto heels vs. other times when she was suitably dressed to match the tone and purpose of the occasion. I've seen her wear a safari shirt and sensible shoes to other emergency-relief events, as well as jeans and her hair pulled back in a pony tail...even a baseball cap, I believe, for sports-related outings. It would've been easy to find those images, and your message would have come across as objective, which in the business word you should aim for. Or, if you wanted to highlight the Obamas, you should've simply not mentioned the current First Lady and used them as your *only* examples. Pictures of the former first family abound, especially of Mrs. Obama, whom we've seen in power suits and full glamour while meeting foreign dignitaries as well as in leggings while planting the vegetable garden at the White House or dancing with the cast of SYTYCD as part of her "Let's Move" initiative. The way you presented your examples on this particular video seemed spiteful and that does not represent your brand well. It left a sour taste in my mouth--and that's coming from someone who does not appreciate the current president or the people working at his behest. Again, please take this with the love I mean it. I adore your videos and personality and want you to continue to find increased success!
Well, I'm back because I'm honestly perplexed. I just saw, on the news, that after weeks of controversy about the WH policy of separating children from their parents as they cross the southern border and "caging" them in warehouse facilities, Mrs. Trump made a visit to an immigration detention center to learn more about situation...and on her way there, she wore a Zara jacket that said, in huge letters, "I really don't care, do you?" The level of ineptitude of this entire administration, including their advisers, is just bewildering. I'm choosing to believe they suffer from stupidity and ignorance and they do not act (mostly) out of callousness or evilness. It's obvious they do not have a good grasp of how government works. But why do they not surround themselves with people who know what they're doing? Are the staffers so fearful that no one will suggest that perhaps this jacket was THE WORST possible wardrobe choice ever? Knowing that they (the entire Trump clan) are constantly photographed and criticized, why would they even OWN a piece of clothing with those words on? There, Lauren, this example would be a million times better than "she wore Louboutains" to a hurricane-devastated area. (Still, I stand by my original comment, that if you wanted to use the current first lady as an example, for objectivity's sake and brand preservation, you should've contrasted that poor choice in attire with a time when she conveyed the appropriate message...but boy-oh-boy, this fashion faux-pas today takes the tone-deaf cake! I wonder how they're going to spin this one!)
Irai Rod and u r aware that those words were printed on the back of the jacket? Who is her back to while she is attempting to aide these situations? The press. The press who is too busy reporting on what she’s wearing than what she’s doing at events. The press who makes fun of her accent when she prays for families or makes speeches. Maybe instead of it being a message about the illegal immigrants it was for the press who wont give her a break. Just another view point :)
I didn't like Obama as our president. But when she said he wore a light colored suit and didn't look powerful; I googled the image, and to me, it didn't seem bad. I still think she was very biased but that what people do. She had useful information to share.
Awesome advice!! Duchess Meghan Markle is a good example on this topic. I find clothing with clean lines and some form of an architectural element conveys power. I agree with your advice to stay away from prints like florals. Also wanted to add that certain scents convey power, so choose your perfume according to the tone you want to set.
Good advice! You showed some pics of Michelle Obama and Diana but I think giving some visual examples with every advice would be nice and makes it more interesting. That includes Pics for Dos and Don'ts. Thank you for the video.
Awesome instruction. When you were making the seven points it all became pretty obvious. My personality doesn’t lend itself to power though because I’m so scatty. I’m likeable but not taken very seriously. My job doesn’t require it though so I’m all good. I love to look everything you stated. Clean, dark colours, no patterns (eww), no accessories but dam fine hair do. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Great presentation lady. Your hair is beautiful and you are one class act Sista'!! Yes, Michelle Obama a great example of class and character to admire and follow. An outstanding signature look she has. President Obama could wear any colored suit. Cause once he opens his mouth, that in itself would exude enough intelligence, smarts, wits and class to shun whatever color that suit was...but I get the gist of what you're saying.
My Recap:
1. Have a #signature look
2. #Polished and Well Groomed
3. Quality wardrobe
4. Dark color
5. High contrast with bold #accessories
6. No patterns
7. Adapt to the environment

Icarüs 5440 let me know how that works out for you.
I learned staying in a safe shield doesn't always make me the self assured person I wish to be.
both are important
Sexylawyer Blakgerman the confidence is important and takes priority. Dressing up is and additional boost, not something that we should depend on
Kids, adults.
He looked ill in it
Power is in your attitude & how you carry yourself. I have seen people command power wearing jeans, tee shirts and sneakers. I don't like to wear makeup and will dress how I please, patterns, no-patterns, light colors, dark colors, hair up, hair down..whatever.
H&M clothes are not cheap ass clothes nowadays.
Great fashion advice! Thanks for sharing!
I am really into wearing suits and would be happy to look at the nice options from high-end street brands or alternative designers'collections
I feel more powerful without makeup. That my signature.
Great tips! I’ve been wearing more dresses at work since everyone on the team is a dress-a-holic. I do have some pattern tights that I wear with solid black dresses since our dress code is strict and requires black only. It makes a minimalist wardrobe so much easier if you stick to neutrals!
The best video I saw on youtube about how to dress powerful
No patterns, huh? Tell that to Anna Wintour. That's pretty much all she wears...
Tiffiany Collier Agreed, Anna Wintour does love her prints, but the contrast between the splashy colors and the heavily tailored cut of her dresses gives her look great power. Let's not forget about the signature bob she's had for 30+ years and the large framed sunglasses. Constrast, composition and consistency are key elements to a power look.
oluchi85 Yep. I point back to point number one: she has A SIGNATURE LOOK that's 30+ years old.
And yet the chick is wearing a dowdy, old lady looking floral thing in this video
Excellent tips, Lauren and I do agree that being aware of your environment and adapting one’s clothing to suit is not just classy but also respectful of those you’re meeting. Your examples were spot on.
1. signature look
2. groomed well
3. quality > quality
4. dark colors
5. contrast with confident colors or accessories
6. no pattern
7. dress according to the social situation and environment
Girl I love your content. Thank you.
Except for the fact that she got off the plane in tennis shoes......
I think patterns like classic stripes in grey, black or white are powerful work wear items.
Thanks for sharing this good tip! It’s really helpful. Could you show more photos next time? Then I can understand more.
Politics aside -
Melania wore her heels from the White House to Air Force One to show respect for her environment.
She changed to sneakers as she reached her destination.
These are great tips! I can’t agree more about the dark colors, high contrast, and no pattern ones!
You are contradicting yourself ....no prints yet you wearing prints...dark colours yet you mentioning Mrs Obama bright colour ensembles ...people in politics are not the only ones of power ....poor examples....
You’ve got a very good talking voice. Enjoyed the vid just for your voice.
Hi! Can you please make a video on clothing material. Which fabrics are good for each season, e.g. Cotton during hot weather, etc. Thanks!
Wear rayon or synthetics, cotton shrinks and wrinkles beyond ironing!!!
How do you look put together with naturaly curly hair? It's humid where I live and my hair is frizzy!
I just subscribed!! Love the video and the suggestions! I work in corporate and these tips are helpful!!! ❤️
What's wrong with H&M ? They have some good peaces , if you can style your clothes and take care of them you can look expensive . Unless you wear the tags with your clothes it doesn't know how much it cost . An expensive clothing can look just as shitty as a cheap one if you don't know how to wear them.
omg this is so AMAZING!!!! helpful and informative!!!! thank you!!!!!
However, in this time of such extreme polarization in our society, it would be prudent NOT to use political figures as examples of how not to dress.
loved the Video, Lauren!
Excellent information
I do agree.
She pointed out the mistakes make in dressing my President Obama too.
I didn't like Obama as our president. But when she said he wore a light colored suit and didn't look powerful; I googled the image, and to me, it didn't seem bad. I still think she was very biased but that what people do. She had useful information to share.
Sad followers need to listen to politics when most just want to focus on their appearance...great info but bad use of forum.
Thank you, very very helpful, please use more fotos and images to describe a little bit what you are talking about. Best wishes.
Great tips on environment. I've made some mistakes and have learned from it. 💖
First ladies are under a lot of pressure to look perfect all the time and wardrobe gaffes will happen.
Clicked by accident but end up watching the whole thing and I learned something awesome 👏🏼 thanks and I’m subscribing 😀
I love, love, love what you are wearing! Who is the designer?
Thankx so much gr8 advice
Very good advice-----Thank you!
Love this video. New subbie. Can't wait to check out your videos.
You are stunning and sleek. I will 100% take your style advice.
Great tips.
Girl, I look powerful even in a H&M fun outfit. Because I have a powerful attitude and a well groomed... BRAIN.
I love your short cut!!!👏🏽👊🏽👍🏽
WOW! This was so great and thoughtful!! Best advice ever 💕 Thank u and God bless
You are gorgeous, U favor Kelis sooooo much!!
V helpful as usual😘
Puts in perspective Melania's green "I don't care" jacket while visiting children incarcerated at the boarder...😳
Thank you, It's really important for me. God bless you 😊
You look incredibly powerful in your pattern

Melania a gorgeous dresser!🌸
But, Seriously, ALL Of Your Advice Is Always On Point! I Am Going To Give Myself A Fashion Makeover On My Channel And You Will Be A HUGE Part Of My Inspiration! You Rock, Girl!👑
My goodness, you're speaking too slowly ma'am. Btw, sounds like you don't like Mrs.Trump.
Worldtravel2013 Put the speed on 1,25 or even 1,5. That's what I did.
I thought it was just me...I clicked out
Worldtravel2013 She lost me too... her role model Michelle?!! Rumor has it and Joan Rivers gave her life for exposing the truth about Michel I mean Michelle...
I’ll take Melanie any day of the week...
Worldtravel2013 I thought Mrs. Trump changed on the plane?
B O R I N G
omg your hair! I just watched old videos with your long dreads, then your bob and now this, drastic changes but cool looks!
Lauren, love your style a d overall, your hair. Simple and elegant.
Thank youuuuu
Ahhh!! Where have you been all of my (professional) life!?
Great presentation lady. Your hair is beautiful and you are one class act Sista'!! Yes, Michelle Obama a great example of class and character to admire and follow. An outstanding signature look she has. President Obama could wear any colored suit. Cause once he opens his mouth, that in itself would exude enough intelligence, smarts, wits and class to shun whatever color that suit was...but I get the gist of what you're saying.
