So when she asked if it was locked, they all just nodded and didn't wanna get into it. If this gun was locked in a biometric safe, it would've never happened. Wow, this interview made me angry, the mom totally discounted her sons’ behavior just because he has ADHD. Like come on, I know a ton of people with that and not 1 person is violent and not 1 would ever have brought a gun to school and shot their teacher. This is much deeper then that and I can’t believe the mom isn’t seeing that. And for the grandpa to bring up race is ridiculous, he said that if the teacher was his color and the student was white it wouldn’t be “hyped” up as much. No sir, the reason this is so hyped up is a 6 year old got his hands on a gun and shot his teacher! A 6 year old!!!! That is why it is so hyped up!!! Stop minimizing and justifying his behavior!!!! That teacher will forever have health issues and those precious kids and teacher will be forever scarred from the memories of that day!

Speaking as someone who was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, you’re 100% correct. She seems to have the mentality that her baby can do no wrong and he’s just an innocent child. The problem is that at 6 years old he’s old enough to know right from wrong. Not to mention the fact that he was threatening other students with said gun! I can’t stand the way they’re trying to play it off like this. I promise you as someone with adhd I never once thought about harming my teachers or anyone else when I was in school

    • @Firstfalconfree
      @Firstfalconfree ปีที่แล้ว +18

Up until this interview, I vaguely thought the little boy was white, since I hadn’t seen anywhere reporting his race through all this. I’d seen photos of the teacher, but never the kiddo or his family. The attention definitely wasn’t a race thing, it was an age thing. This wasn’t a 15 year old gang member shooting someone in an urban center (shocking though that still is), this was a 6 year old shooting his teacher in elementary school. Insane.
I have ADHD, my husband has ADHD. I’ve known my daughter has ADHD since she was 4- it’s pretty severe and obvious, not just hyperactivity. It is absolutely bonkers to blame ADHD for a little kid bringing a gun to school and shooting his teacher with it. That’s not a thing. Impulsivity, sure, but it’s not like he found the teacher’s gun in her desk, he had to get his hands on it at home, pack it in a hidden way, mention or show it to several kids at school (I don’t recall which), re-hide it, retrieve gun from hidden area, shoot teacher. That’s a lot of steps for it to be brushed off as the actions of an impulsive 6 year old. I hope he is getting the help he obviously needs.

    • @ddbb7505
      @ddbb7505 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I do know plenty of people with ADHD that are violent, however I’ve always been suspicious that they may have some other undiagnosed issues going on. When kids are “out of control” they get referred to a school psychologist and sure they’ll get ADHD, maybe Autism etc however all parents should not stop there, but most do. Advocate for your child to have a medical assessment via pediatric development or neuropsychology for example. It’s the difference between a 30min assessment with a busy school psychologist that has a diagnosis based on classroom needs vs a 4-8 hour assessment that can also result in needing more assessments and tests. Very thorough

Just listening to this interview makes me so mad. There is nothing racial about this. This is a lack of attention from the parents when it comes to that child. At the end of the day it’s the parents responsibility. The school teachers are helping to educate the child, that’s what they’re there for at the end of the day. The disingenuous apology to the teacher and making it a racial thing is a cop out and it’s disgusting. The parents and the great grandfather are the ones who failed the child not the school.

Because I am VERY familiar with Newport News Public Schools emotional manipulation tactics, schools in this district are not safe havens as many people perceive. The #1 tool used to control teachers, students, parents, and administrators, Dr. Parker, the former superintendent, was fired, is EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION.
Hmmm....$40 million dollars sounds pretty good to a bunch of "thieving insiders" to get a piece of the money pie. Newport News Public Schools has always had students at the high and middle school levels bring guns to Schools in order to protect themselves from bullies.
This is the same district who hired a GANG LEADER as a security guard who commanded gang violence within the school setting and community. He worked with the district for years before being arrested because of homicides he was connected to in the community.

i think this is the complete wrong case to be dragging in ADHD or race into the conversation. i have ADHD and yes there is a spectrum and impulsivity does play a role in poor decision making. but the intent to hurt someone does not stem from the disorder, the lack to rationalize or make better decisions is what does. and i know im only speaking from personal experience but from research and talking to medical professionals i’ve never heard of violence being a symptom.
i don’t think race is the reason this incident is being “pumped” up either but for the fact it is almost unheard of for a child that young to shoot someone let alone to even really have idea of what that action is, how to carry it out, or that this is how to handle unfavorable situations etc. it’s the shock factor that has everyone locked in because we’re use to a certain image of perpetrator and a child doesn’t usually fit that mold.

As a former primary teacher for 29 years it makes me so mad to hear the Mom say that her child was ignored, and Grandpa plays the race card. I have had to tell parents many times that their child has some serious behavior problems that we need to address . I was told by one parent it was because of his astrological sign. That child is now in prison for life for double murder. Teachers can only do so much with the students in their class. Honestly, in some cases you can’t make a silk purse,,,,,,, and in some cases the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Prayers that the boy gets help and continued prayers for the young teacher that she recovers completely, mentally and physically. Chris Starr

Special needs or NOT, I’ve seen so many parents do this gentle parenting BS that common manners and respect often gets overlooked bc of their “special needs”. There’s honestly a lack of care, attention, monitoring. We’re dealing with a epidemic of social media parenting. If you are involved and focused on your child when they are home from school and leaving out to school, there is NO F***IN way your 6yr old child leaves the home with a gun. Stop being negligent parents and wanting the teachers to do all the work! All teachers aren’t good teachers BUT the amount of unruly undisciplined kids causing terror in school and forcing teachers to deal is unbelievable and not worth the money or mental distress.

Children don’t become violent like that without experiencing violence in the home. I suspect this family has had a long history with CPS. Can you imagine your child having to attend class with him at whichever school he ended up transferring to? I would take my child out before allowing them to be anywhere near this boy. He will most likely progress from Oppositional Defiant Disorder to Conduct disorder as a teen and then finally to Antisocial Personality Disorder as an adult, what’s commonly referred to as a “sociopath”. I cannot say, definitively, that the fathers assertion of racial bias is unwarranted or insincere, but I had no idea what the students race was prior to this interview. I did, however, know that a student with prior behavioral issues at the school had taken his parents gun to school and shot his teacher. The age of the student and schools ineptitude in protecting the other students and the staff is what has fueled the outrage of this case. For a school to fail its teachers, support staff, and students in such a way is egregious enough, and then to have the district argue that it is a workmen's comp issue is beyond the pale.

Oh. So, he "accidentally" knocked the phone out of her hand by throwing his hands up. He's not violent. He also "accidentally" shot her the next time he was back to school. She's either choosing to believe her child over the teacher or is being willfully ignorant of his behavior. The phone wouldn't "crack and shatter" from falling. He had a history of random violence, attacking students and teachers, but mom believes that it was an accident that he knocked the phone out of her hand.
Her lawyer is ter-rib-ble. Anyone who closes their eyes while deflecting a question, concentrating that hard to find an acceptable answer, should not be in a line of work where he has to argue a defense for someone. It's so funny that the lawyer wants to blame the school for the kid brnging a gun to school and shooting the teacher. LOL Great job, bub! Good luck with that defense. "If it's true that he's violent, the school knew that and let him attend". LOL!! You can't make this stuff up!
Now, the school is definitely to blame for the kid getting through the day with a gun, when they were warned multiple times by 3 different teachers, but mom let her little kid go to school with a gun! There's plenty of blame to go around. She can share a large portion of it. It is pretty funny that the school is trying to say that the teacher's SHOOTING injury should fall under Workman's Comp. LOL!! Again, you can't make this stuff up! Idiocracy!
Reporter: "You say the gun was locked up. How did he get the gun?"
Lawyer: "Noone knows. You'd have to ask him".
    Reporter: "Have you asked him?"
    Lawyer: "No. Not yet"
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Then he says that they DID talk to him about it, but no adult knows how he got the gun.
    Ooooookaaaaayyyyyy.......
    "Was the gun locked somewhere?"
Right. Suuuure it was locked. LOL
She says that she's take responsibility for her son because he can't take responsibility for "hisself". How about taking responsibility because the gun wasn't actually locked up? Or take responsibility for teaching your 6-year-old how to pick a lock if it was locked up, like she said?
She doesn't think going to prison for 6 years is fair, but she'll "Do anything for my baby". wtf?
And grandpa thinks it's a race thing? He thinks, if they were white, they wouldn't be so famous now? It's a big deal because it's a 6-year-old who got his mom's gun and shot a teacher in school! Then, the mom's identity was kept secret for months with no charges! Look up Jennifer and James Crumbly, grandpa. Look how race has absolutely nothing to do with your fame, now.

They are clearly choosing their words carefully in this interview. The mother knows exactly how her son got the gun. She also provides the motive for the shooting. The mother perceived the teacher was not providing adequate attention to her son. It is likely that the mother made derogatory statements about the teacher to her son, making him feel that he was being neglected in the classroom. All of this was a perfect storm. If the gun was stored high in a closet with the safety-on as the mother said, then her son would have watched the gun being handled at some point and then put away. How would he know how to undo the safety? He obviously watched someone else undo it. I have family members who have ADHD and they are not killers. But they don't have passive, enabling parents either. Who would keep a gun accessible to an unstable child. I hope she gets prison time. She deserves it.

They say "sorry, she got hurt" which isn't accountability! Saying it like that totally minimizes what that child did.

Saying a white child shooting a black teacher would not have been more of a hate crime is absurd. The mother is absolutely responsible, and by her response in this interview, I'd say she doesn't hold the baby and herself accountable. She needs more than jail time she needs some court ordered parenting and accountability classes.

She a liar and a horrible mother. She acts as if she couldn't care less about what her child did. YOU "lady"....YOU are responsible for your 6 year old child's action. She deserves to be in prison and to lose custody of her son, permanently. She clearly can't raise a good adult. If she maintains custody, that child will grow up and continue to be a criminal.

The little boy didn’t know how to react when he got angry. He probably didn’t have some good examples, and then there’s this careless gun ownership, because anyone can have a gun, even irresponsible adults, and so you have the perfect storm for a little boy with a deficit disorder. The mother is clearly the one who is responsible for this incident. It could’ve been a whole lot worse the teacher or one of the kids could’ve been killed.

This is ridiculous. Blaming ADHD for reckless and poor behavior that was an ongoing issue with this child... It sounds like the parents gave up on his tantrums because it was too much to handle. Then a 6 year old brings a gun to school and somehow it's society being prejudice against them... He's SIX YEARS OLD shooting at his elementary teacher... REALLY?! That child does not know how to manage his emotions properly and is throwing cell phones on the ground and beating children up because he can't process his emotions correctly. He escalated his anger with a gun... It wouldn't matter the child's race... If he's a shooter he's a shooter.. Look at how the parents took responsibility for their son's actual mental illness with the bank shooting... He was an adult but his parents still wish that they could have done more... This kid is lucky that he didn't kill the teacher.

Kids are mischievous AF so the only answers that should be coming out of your mouth is you should have done better and apologize. Your little brat is not an angel. Now criminal charges is absolutely useless in this case and will do absolutely no good. This is a monetary matter and nothing else now. Get the kid the treatment he needs so he can be a production of society and not a burden like he is.

As a health professional ADHD isn’t one of those disorders where you “want to shoot someone”. There’s more sever disorders which change your personality or behaviors severely. To claim that as their reasoning is sad. Get your kid diagnosed correctly. 😢 and to hear him say “I feel sorry for me grandson going through this ordeal.” Is so demoralizing to the actual victims.

ADHD and autism are commonly misdiagnosis for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Then the parent can seek professional help without admitting they caused the problem themselves.
