While writing the script for the #Myanmar episode I realized there just wouldn't be enough time to fit this very important section of delicate information in the video (unless I rushed or glossed over it) however it definitely needed to be addressed, therefore I had to make an entire separate video for it; The Rohingya situation. There are many other pieces of information that could've been mentioned in this video but for what it's worth I talked to quite a few people on this matter, did research and this is the briefest yet concise summary I can give.

You could probably have mentioned that there are UN reports that document actual attempts at ethnic cleansing by the Myanmar army. It's not just a 'both sides' thing, there are third-party international observers, you should try to at least mentioned what those have to say as well...

Actually, many small ethnic groups live on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. There are 1.5 million Burmese Buddhists living in Chittagong and Cox's bazar in Bangladesh. Bangladesh never deprives them of their rights. In the same way that Myanmar has deprived the Rohingyas of their citizenship, Bangladesh and those who want to live in Bangladesh, can deprive these Buddhist communities of their citizenship. But one secular government after another has come to power in Bangladesh and is not doing so

I spent all of November in Myanmar. Traveled from Yangon to Nay Pi Taw, Mandalay, then off to smaller more rural areas like Shwebo, Kale, Kanbalu, Tedim, Falam, and Rihkawdar. I have to say it is a very interesting country. I found while there while most everyone was very open about talking about the government and democracy, no one wanted to talk about the Rohingya at all. And you are 100% correct about it not being about them being Muslim. I traveled the entire month with a Myanmar native that was Muslim and a colleague from out of the country that was also Muslim and everywhere we went the people were for the most part incredibly friendly.

Then, I started not to because I don't want to get the look of distrust and disgust as if I'm lying to them just because what I'm saying is not like what mass media is reporting. What I want them to know is that I care deeply about people no matter what their race is and I was just explaining the misrepresentation of Muslims vs Buddhists in the news. SMH.

I’m Thai and I can say that many conflicts in Southeast Asia, including this one, are the result of Western colonization. British and French just left many problems behind this region without any responsibility. They combined and divided their conquered territories like a cake without thinking about ethnic background and former political status. Shan people, for example, are still fighting against the Bamars for their independence until today. I’m pro-Shan because Shan state (Tailand) has ever been an independent state not part of Burma. They have their own culture and monarchy. French also left the border conflict between Siam and Indochina. Be strong Southeast Asians!

Do you hear Pakistan? They are supported by Indonesia for a very long time. They got de jure from us.
There are no news about Rohingya lately, but last thing I heared from national media: "They are not comfortable in the refugee camp because it isn't the same as what they are promised."
They got baptized (so Christian word, can't find the Islamic word) by our culture: You cam hold my promise because promise is free!
Simply because they are a burden in financial, with no benefit at all.
Which country want to accept this kind of immigrant?
      1. No money
      2. No education
      3. No skill
Do not mention their language is very different from us, maybe most of Indonesian who helped them can speak Arabic.
But most of Indonesian, even most of Muslim in Indonesia can't speak Arabic.
      To be understand:
Many Muslim in Indonesia can speak Arabic because they learn to resd their holy book.
But they can't make a conversation.
It is more like they are remembering the verse like a song.
Thr higher the education, more of them can take a very basic conversation.

But as a practicing Buddhist, of course we would welcome anyone who want to learn about our faith and how it can be applied to better our lives.
However, because your current or previous faith is of the Islamic one. I'm pretty sure it is very hard, especially if you live in an Islamic country.
It is astronomically hard to convert out of it.
That said, conversion internally is always better than externally, can start by understanding Buddhism, the Dhamma and start establishing Right View.

Paul, thanks so much for clarifying this complex issue probably better than many news outlets have. It's such an utter tragedy the mess that colonialism left behind once it officially ended.

Yes, you did miss a few important points but overall, a very objective presentation of a very complicated situation. I don't normally comment on political issues here, only to say that the western media has been feeding us with a lot of misinformation and fake news about this crisis, but you have tried to balance it with your unbiased report.
