    Hey Drew - just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help with the X32. There's absolutely no way I would have been able to achieve the set up that I'd envisioned had it not been for your tutorials. They truly are some of the most concise, easy to follow instructional videos out there. Big appreciation mate!!

    This is exactly what I needed. I ordered the X32 strictly for studio use. It is arriving in two days and I have been contemplating for hours on end exactly what needed to be done to the routing to fully utilize everything this piece of equipment has to offer.

      I got mine around the same time. I tried a bunch of setups but I ended up using it for multitracking drums and that's about it lol. I tried bringing every track back in on individual channels but if you do anything on the board to the tracks it doesn't end up on your exported mixes out of your DAW. I ended up using channels 31 and 32 for monitoring my mixes out of Cubase. After drums it's one track at a time anyways. After I was done re-amping, I ended up hooking up my two channel interface again to save the wear on the x32. The one thing I do love about it is doing live sound with it. It's like having your dream rack at every gig lol. How do you use yours post tracking?

    Thanks for this great workaround to the greatest problem with the X32. Indeed, it is a major miss from Behringer having not provided for this possibility natively. In fact this whole tedious "creative" workaround could have been just a simple clic of a button to send to the card pre or post channel strip. But instead, we have to go through this complicated process, especially if we have to do it for multiple tracks.

    Hey Drew - Can you make a video where you show settings according to the following
    We set all inputs with eq, compressors and more, also mix effects such as reverb etc. to eg vocals and drums so that it sounds ok including the first four FX in the headphones.
    We also want to record the mix we hear on 2-track USB

    Hi, I've been bringing in my tracks from Pro Tools to the Midas. I would like to then insert some of Midas' plug ins and send that back to Pro Tools as a 2 TK Mix with the Midas plug ins printed to the track. Can't seem to figure out the routing for this. Can this be done internally with the USB card, without using any cables for external patching?

    Hi, thanks a lot for this amazing idea. One question in advance:
    Can I record channels 1 to 16 as before and do this routing with channels 17 to 32 with dynamics and effects?
    So I would be able to get 1 to 16 for virtual soundcheck and 17 to 32 for getting the "real" output of the 16 inputs ;)

    Hey ! I purchased the X32 (full size) as my dedicated Console for my Drum Kit. I replaced an analog Mackie 1604 VLZPro . my idea is now I can “Dial In” my kit and save different sounds for the kit, then recall instantly. My question is Let’s say I get the effects, EQ, dynamics etc in place onboard , I’m going to make drum videos with multicam. I have the LIVE card installed. Can I record multitrack to the internal card AND also a premixed “live” 2 track to the usb stick at once ? Therefore making the X32 standalone and NOT needing a PC/Mac etc. ? I’d like this X32 to be standalone mixer/ recorder and use for live shows all while recording. Thanks very much :).

    Thank you SO MUCH, for not only this video, but all you produce for the x32!
    I have one question for you after seeing this. Once in the DAW, is it just a matter of manually mixing together the channel and its respective effect together, to get the wet/dry mix you want? Or how would that work once its in the DAW since you now have two separate tracks from each channel? (or am i missing something?) Thanks again!!!

    • @dylanreo8519
      @dylanreo8519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recording the effects on another track alongside the dry signal, then blending together to taste afterwards would generally be the way it's done.

  • @thefergolfer
    @thefergolfer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once you have dynamics and effects added, those effects come out the mains 15/16, so couldnt you just patch local outs 15/16 back into a couple of the local ins and then record those channels into the daw and then have dynamics and effects recorded?

  • @massfusionstudio

    Great tutorial. I do things a little bit more simple. The X32 has a built in usb port for a memory stick that is formatted in the old fat system format. The 2 track recording feature is a very valuable tool. My console is split 1-16 input local, and 17-32 for playback from daw. In my environment, I don't capture certain effects on tracks. Reverb and final compression and other pre treat input processing. That's why I like the bone stock version of the setup from unboxing the unit. Things always change in a studio recording session. Certain things printed on a recorded track cannot be undone. That being said, the Mic input and processing is adequate for a print to tape "old-school slang" to keep it simple, I'd prefer to utilize the internal recorder on the x32 for final pre mastering 2 track mixdown. It's much simpler to print all the effects via the master L&R assigned to the usb recorder. Many fail to realize that the X32 in a studio atmosphere does the same exact thing that you can do in a computer DAW, but completely out of the box. If I need to print an effect into a track to free up another insert for that specific track? Then I'd use the tap tricks to print it all to daw. But my old-school hack is simple. Instead of constantly changing routing options in the middle of a project, I'd just patch the analog output that carries left and right mains post fader and all effects, plug a good old fashioned xlr from that into a dedicated bounce track. But don't forget to solo that track or mute the other tracks to avoid feedback loop. Now I can arm my daw to capture the bounced track from the console and have everything I want printed. Same method will work for a final mixdown. But it's not an issue for me to transfer the usb recorder track to my computer to load up into a mastering suite. The X32 is 48k 24 bit maximum resolution. If you are a purist like me? You can send the final mixdown out like mentioned above, and recapture it into your daw at 96k 32 bit float for a mastering pre master. Live bouncing into another sample rate is how the masters beat computer dithering and sample conversion. 96k is louder and higher resolution than 48k. High quality monitors can playback the difference. Lol. That's my hack on how to beat the 48k maximum recording format on the x32. Bouncing live analog output into daw at higher sampling bit rate..
    Or just record seperate tracks onto usb stick and transfer to the computer lol. That's my hack on simple recording effects lol. Certain parallel inserts create phase problems with the X32. So capturing effects from master bus isn't a good option. Unless you have Knowledge about when to invent phase on a specific channel too avoid phase, or have Knowledge in millisecond delay to compensate for insert and parallel effect phase problems.

    Dude! Excellent video but I have only one question. I'm new to sound engineering and already I'm wanting to know why you would send your FX separately to your DAW if you already have them recorded in your 16 CH post faders? I'm sure I'm missing something here like, being able to manipulate those FX in your DAW for some reason, although I'm not sure why. Of all the channels on the Behringer X32, your channel is the only one I've subscribed too. I'm a drummer and I just bought the X32 TP and I'm still trying to find the right drum sounds. So keep the videos coming, and thanks!

    thank you for the video. I am thinking of purchasing an X32. I produce electronic music and use about 24 channels for all my synths and drum machines. Would the post-fader recording work with so many channels or would I be limited to 16? That would be a deal breaker for me buying that console. Thank you!

    • @66fitton
      @66fitton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why would you want to be post fader with so many digital instruments? They are already compressed and eq'd quite well. Anything else you might want to do could easily be done in your DAW.
      The fact that you get a 32 in 32 out interface inside a digital mixer for that kinda money, is hard to beat!
      The EQ's in the x32 are no better than what's in all the decent DAWs. Just use the ones in your DAW on the recorded tracks...
      One thing I can say is that as far as interfaces go, this thing is seamless, reliable and easy to use. For 2 grand, hard to beat!
      Cheers mate!!

    I did all of this, recorded a vocal track with a little bit of Reverb from the mixing board. It sounded and felt great, was nice and wet when I was recording, but when I went to play the vocal track back in DAW I noticed that it was dry. I can feel that I am getting close to figuring it out, but am getting frustrated because I really would like to use the presets and effects on this board for tracking. Do i need to change my outputs on my DAW? I am using Pro tools btw. lol Hopefully I can figure it out. This board is awesome! I appreciated your video btw, it just opened up a whole new pathway in my mind on what is capable with this machine.

    • @66fitton
      @66fitton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The effects won't be on the vocal tracks if you set this up properly. The effects returns are routed to separate tracks, I believe he used XLR outs 9 to 16 as the inputs to the cards 17 to 24 outs. You would have to arm tracks 17 to 24 on your DAW to capture the affected vocal. You then mix it in with the dry.
      Watch this video again really carefully. After he assigned all the p16 outs to the card, he assigned the effects returns to the XLR outs in the routing page, then told the card to use them as the 17 to 24 outs on the card.
      Pretty crazy, but it works.
      Cheers

      Drew I have a x32 compact..I'd like to be able to use the mixer for virtual Soundcheck. I'm a little confused on how I'd achieve this. We use a few reverbs, delays and plugins the LA2A and 1176 plugins as well as the xtec eqs, if I record us like we play will it not record the effects? and if it will then when it comes to soundcheck is there a way to play it back without the effects but keep the inserts? Say for instance in an ambient room we wouldn't want the reverb? could you shed some light on this please. Your videos have been incredibly helpful so thank you from across the Pond here in the U.K. Tim

    Hi Drew, Great tutorial as usual. I have been recording our shows direct to the USB 2 track & getting pretty good results. I use the matrix 5 & 6 so I can send the right levels to the recorder which is balanced differently to the live mix as you would expect. My only problem is that I cannot record any send effects at all. Even a little compression would be a nice touch. Is there any way I can do this? Thanx in advance. Jason

    You are a life saver man!! Great videos.
    So I am just beginning to record my band by using a 24 channel split snake to feed my recording only console.
    I require all 24 channels plus I feed the singer an in-ear p16 mix which also requires all 16 channels. Is there a way to use the XLR direct ports 25-32 to feed effects to my 24 recorded channels in a live recording setting or at home as a studio mixer.
    I am okay with recording in a raw form but would like to know how to loop from Reaper back into my X-32 to mix down the recording and render. Though my X-32 is both firewire and USB, my computer is USB only.

So In my scenario i am tacking drums on 8 tracks and over dubbing bass and guitars on 8-16,got my board set up for 16 channels coming in for just instruments. plan on recording vocals and adding midi organ after I mix down the 16 drum bass ad guitar down with my effects recorded.The nature of my studio I cant really get away with tracking vocals live. I have 8 of my output hooked directly with cable to inputs 25-32 so i can record effects because what I am doing is recording all my tracks dry because i am doing it myself then playing them back and recording the effects all at once.. if this makes any sense..any way I can improve my setup.

    Can you explain the difference between recording effects with a vocal or applying the effects afterwards. Isn’t it always better to have the clean recording. I suppose you could always record the clean thing and another track with effects. Why not?

    • @TheYodyos
      @TheYodyos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are recording for the purpose of a virtual soundcheck, record clean pre-fader. If you want to make a live album or something, you probably want to do post-fader because that's what it actually sounded like live.

    soooo what do you do if you don't have the p-16?

      You missed an important piece of info... this whole tutorial is for those who are NOT using a p16. His instructions are showing you how to utilize the internal p16 routing to redirect them to record. HOWEVER, those of us who actually DO use the p16 device are apparently s.o.l. with this solution.

    And I don't like it lol I want my effects applied and recorded on the track I am working on I don't want 8 tracks of lets just say Vocals with Different FX on each track. Guessing I need to figure out a work around because this isn't doing it

    • @thefergolfer
      @thefergolfer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats where your sends on fader comes in to assign different effects and how much to each track. There are videos here too on assigning effects

      @OG_Gamers_Live 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thefergolfer and your missing the point your affects are not applied to the audio interface because the usb card taps the channels right after the mic pre in order to record the FX you have to do a complicated re route and you lose half of your audio interfaces channels but then you'd know that if you watched this video

    • @thefergolfer
      @thefergolfer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know. But the routing using p16s and auxs is not that complicated. Good luck.

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh man! No, it can do 32in/32out with the card that comes stock with the board! 48kHz at 24-Bit!

    Why are explicit names given to virtual patches? You would think something for the monitoring solution would be an assignment of that and only that processing chain-- why not just let someone select the what to the analog or digital where? Who is going to intuitively understand anything on this board when routing can go in loops and end up coming out of your butt (MONO - PreFader)

  • @valcic1993
    @valcic1993 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So complicated, better is qu16 can rec multi on usb flash disc then playback
