    Legendary phone. It came out when I was just starting high school, and one of my friends got it as soon as it came out. It was a beast back then, and I don't really think any other phone was close to this one at that moment. I remember how we were amazed with it's performance, and how it was faster than any other phone. Also camera quality was one of the best, if not the best at the time.

    • @mark030a
      @mark030a 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @@eyesforthewise Reaaally debatable.
      Most were on the cheap side for quite acceptable performance, yes, but at the time in late 2010 to 2011, Android as an OS couldn't even come close to iOS standards by a long shot.
      Especially if you consider the userbase at the time. Android Market was stagnating behind the App Store, and Game Center was the final nail in the coffin for the gaming part of the mobile market
      But Android was a beast when it came to versatility in its use, I'll give it that.
      And I guess it kinda caught up with iOS in late 2012-2013, as that's when I remember most Android devices gaining popularity, and Google Play Store taking off.

    This was my first new iPhone. I still have it, but I obviously don't use it any longer. I'm actually really looking forward to getting the 14 later this year as the asthetics of the 4th gen iPhone are very present in this new generation, and I liked it. The rounded edges don't do it for me.

    My mum got the iPhone 4 when it was released, this was the first smartphone anyone in our family had so naturally, it took some time to understand. I remember playing heaps of random games on it, my favorites being Omega Drive and some plane game that plays the saddest piano you'll ever hear when you crash.
    This phone is on some version of IOS 7 and it is very slow, but it gets the job done if you're patient. The battery still holds up very well, along with the design, camera and even the screen.The home button now however is failing.
    Personalty I just love the design that older phones had, small square screens, thick bezels etc. Don't get me wrong I love modern phones, I have an S20+ and couldn't be happier with it, but there's just something about older phone design that I just prefer.

      Yeah like Samsung's home button and rounded square camera that design is so iconic and you can tell by a mile it's a samsung but in 2019 everything changed and also the volume buttons on the left are now on the right side (which I hate cus I'm left handed) and the s7 edge I would say is Samsung's perfect phone

      Yikes, I think you have been better off with a $50 USD Android GO phone like the Alcatel Glimpse/Apprise, as it at least has 2GB RAM, and a lowend, but usable quad core SOC, will run most modern apps outside of demanding games, and with Android GO being slimmed down it's still very snappy on the limited hardware.

      iOS 7 on these is about as smooth as a modern phone for basic tasks. Apple crippled these unfortunately.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brian-jv8iy Depends on what phone you have laying around as many older Android phones are no longer supported with security updates, and apps will no longer work on them period, like my old first gen Moto E which no longer supports my credit union app because of the older version of Android, and without a custom ROM running a new version of Android(many don't have the option for a custom ROM) leaves them in a state of security vulnerability, so spending $40 - $50 if that's all you have on a working modern Android phone even with Android GO 10 can be a better option than a much older phone.

    I will say, the design of the iPhone 4 and 4s ranks near the top if you ask me. Like, I had a 4S for *years* and I absolutely loved it, it was comfortable, easy to use with one hand, and it felt solid and well built. It also had a bit of heft to it, which I'm a fan of.

    • @captainkuijt
      @captainkuijt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I recently bought one used and downgraded it to iOS 6.1.3, been using it as my daily driver for a week now as fun little experiment. Despite it being an 11 year old phone it still feels exceedingly premium in both build quality and appearance, much more so than modern smartphones in my opinion. The S7 Edge from Samsung comes very close, but I'm not a fan of the rounded edges and lack of heft to the phone.

      Fuck me for getting an Android in 2010, having it break down in 2012, move to Windows Phone and move back to Android in 2013.
      iOS was the shit at the time with Game Center and App Store.
      Sure, Android Market still holds close to my heart, and especially the Xbox catalogue of the Windows Phone 7, but my god did the iPhone players have the time of their lives back then.

      In some countries the mobile networks are switching off 3G before switching off 2G. This means that the device will still work for basic calls and texts - but no one will want to use EDGE or GPRS data in 2022. I don't suppose 150kbps maximum is going to cut it anymore.
      In Australia (where Psivewri is) 2G has been disabled before 3G - whereas in Europe, 3G is going before 2G (on the whole).
      So it's always best to make sure your device can support at least 4G, for high speed data access.

    Nice review! I still have my older Samsung devices as well, notably a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus from 2012, and a Samsung Galaxy S4 from late 2013.
    You've mentioned the exact reason why I don't install system updates on older phones (unless they cannot be avoided): app support is only going to be guaranteed for a short amount of time, whilst each update of OS tends to affect performance of the device.
    It's why my Galaxy S4 still lives on Android 4.2. It can be upgraded to Android 5.0, and I could have done that a year or two ago (to get apps working again), but nowadays even Android 5.0 isn't enough for full app support. Therefore, it's not worth me updating the Android version.

    In my opinion, iOS 6 was the pinnacle of when iOS was a great OS. It looked great, it was fast and responsive, very few bugs and issues with it. Then everything went to hell in a handbasket with iOS 7. Even today, iOS is buggy, the flat design is getting old, and it feels like every 4 weeks they are pushing out an update to fix said bugs but all it does is create new ones.

Since mid 7 as you said. And even those new features are few and far between slowly catching up with Google's android.. But whatever they do, You are still very limited in what you can actually do.
