crazy how much of a difference you made with the car's interior with a simple cleaning, makes you wonder how low the standards were for the previous owners. Congrats on your attempt on bringing this car another life, please wear gloves though
House neighbours of my parents got a red Nissan Micra K12 and seem to care very lowly about it, it's not looking too dirty but the paint is beginning to fade and look dull compared to my A1 (also red and now almost 10 years old), in winter I don't drive through a car wash monthly but at least clean up bird poo soon and pressure wash it from time to time. But it doesn't make me wonder too much, they got a ton of empty cardboard boxes and other almost trash stuff in the attic and the upper two stairs (but they now reduced that because it's an obvious fire hazard). IMHO the car hasn't be to be too clean (washed engine bays are often suspicious) for sale but damn, give it a good clean outside and inside (so that it doesn't keep you from entering) and it can increase the value massively (I guess it usually gains more resale value than cost you had for the car wash and some cleaning stuff). It reminds me of Ratarossa, he got a Nissan Navara for very cheap in March of 2020 with a bunch of issues but especially the interior was literally contaminated... If it was used in a company, why didn't they pull out a trainee every few months and give him a vacuum cleaner or 2 Euros and drives it to a vacuum cleaner (here nearby me is a car wash and you pay just 1€ for the vacuum and can literally use it for unlimited time (the spots have like metal detectors in the tarmac so it shuts off when you're driving away)).
Some hints to people who got inspiration from this video: First of all, never spray any sort of cleaner straight to the area you are going to clean if you are not it's compatible. Spray it onto rag/cloth and test it in somewhere inconspicuous spot near the area. I have seen automotive interior cleaning stuff melt rubber coated buttons, smearing printed text and even causing color from the cloth to transfer into seat upholstery. Second thing. Use gloves when ever you are working with dirty oil, that stuff is really nasty on skin and it can cause rash on some people. Oil from diesel engine is even nastier... Safety goggles are also good thing to have when working with liquids under the car, or anything mechanical when there is risk of stuff flying around you. How about cabin air filter?
My dad has a 08 Yaris and came with no cabin air filter. Like in the slot there’s a place there just nothing there. It’s behind the glovebox just remove and little cover
I've got the same car (well, its one of my two). Honestly, its a reliable little runabout - and no matter how badly I treat it, I can't kill it - it just won't die. I've had it since about 2011 and its starting to show some problems - for example, the window regulators sometimes get stuck, and the boot latch sometimes doesn't work - but mechanically, its A1 - to the point that my local mechanic asked me if I was ever interested in selling. I said no. Its just too reliable to get rid of.
this car holds a special place in my heart as it was my uncles and he drove me and my sister around when we were kids, it had custom leather seats and is still working to this day
Almost 300,000 km on my 2005 Echo. It's a great little car. Biggest maintenance has been replacing the water pump and brake linings. I change the oil every 5000 km, replace the other fluids at recommended intervals. I'll get at least 500,000 out of it. I could afford a much nicer car, but I love this little guy!
This is a nice video and good work on this car whilst keeping costs down. One thing that is cheap and easy is polishing the head lights, which was perhaps done, but not shown in the video.

I have a 2022 bronco sport and yeah I love it so dearly much so I had no use for my little echo so I gave it to my youngest cousin who got her driver's license not too long ago and with 201k miles in the odometer and such a detailed and meticulous history is service and care I reckon it'll go, just like Vanessa Carlton says "a thousand miles" more
Love this automotive content so much! It was called the echo here in Canada as well, though we got the 1.5 litre version. The generation after became the Yaris here and both are very popular for deliveries as well!
I had thr canadian version of this car, the echo. It was so quirky and after 13 years i replaced the rear struts and the handling improved vastly. Gets blown around on the freeway and had thin doors. Mine was spotless like new inside for 17 years, i loved it.
this is such a reliable car! if you go into the engine, you should definitely clean the air flow sensor with cleaning spray and change the air filter. You will see a huge difference after that
There is one of these exact model Echo (Yaris for most the world) here in New Zealand that has done one million kms which is 621371.19 miles and it has never had any major repairs only maintenance done on it.
A 2000 Yaris was my first car for a couple years and only had to go in for repairs a few times due to neglect from the previous owner. Other than that it was a lovely car
I'm watching you from Tanzania🇹🇿 Africa, where we love toyotas due to their endurance & cost of ownership. Please keep making videos of this little toyota vitz as i plan to buy one for my daily drive
fantastic video, it was informative and fun to watch :) we had Echos in the states for a few years but only in sedan and coupe style . it is always nice to have fresh tires and fluids in a vehicle
Man, your timing for switching from computers to cars couldn't be better for me, cause funny enough my hobby changed within the past couple of months from computers to cars lol
I have bought 2 BA Falcon one tonners this year, both of Facebook marketplace, both for roughly the same amount of money, and both of them have been cleaner inside than that car, and both of my utes were used by tradies. My first BA actually has around 650,000km on it and has been a tradesman’s Ute all its life and besides dog smell, and some dog hair, it is like a Rolls Royce compared to that!! My second BA is only a baby, she’s got 230,000km on her but it got it detailed as soon as I bought it because it was a smokers car. Had to put 3 little trees in it to get rid of the smell. Oh and btw, going by the look of that interior, I’d be swapping over cabin filters as well. No doubt it’s holding a large amount of stench.
@@psivewri that’s weird! It looks like it would have smelled like a free entry night club floor! They’re good old things. I work as a pilot and have just gone into business for myself and the Barra was my first choice. They’re a little heavy on fuel, especially with the ute diff ratio, but I can claim what it burns anyway.
Hey, great video! I drove a Yaris for about 5 years. That replacement engine was definitely reconditioned, given NZ engines with high KMs burn oil due to the piston rings failing. Before it gets to winter, a quick little bit of advice I would give is that the foam seals on the rear lights tend to fail and lets rain pool around in the boot floor. Toyota sell a new revised gasket for this issue new, but if you apply a strip of silicone between where the light and the body meet that will also work just fine.
Am from Puerto Rico and I have an Echo but the US version, this little car is a tank, very very reliable, ease to maintain, service and use. It is possible that car you have still have the original engine. In Puerto Rico people use this little cars hard with 300k and 400k miles. Very fuel eficient vehicle. I bought mine to go to college and I still have it. Now is the Family emergency car, if one of our Dailys need to be service or something happen we use the little trusty Echo machine. I call it the smurf since the car is blue 😂
From 2000-20005 they are called Echo in Canada too. These cars are tanks! Reliable, fuel efficient, roomy, easy and cheap to repair. Probably the favorite car I ever owned, here cars will rust cars to death within 10-15 years on average.
Dude, I had this car for 6 years, driving every day like mad man no mercy. As incredible as it seems was fast super light, it fits a lot inside it never broke never give any problem. Somewhat dangerous after 130km/h
In the United States we got this Echo model but only the sedan and coupe version. The commercials that Toyota did for these little cars is quite funny!
love seeing these car restoration videos! between you and dankpods/garbage time it almost feels like I'm watching top gear, would love to see if you two can collab some day
Very pleased to see this video as I bought a 2004 1.0 litre Yaris (in the UK) and with just over 200,000km on the clock it seems clapped out - yet my 2004 BMW with 530,000km on the clock still feels like new - but it's dead with an electrical fault ☹ Incidentally, the Yaris is also the preferred transport of many a food delivery driver here in the UK!
Really great vid! I’ve gone through a similar thing with an echo for my partner, and have recently got one for myself as a daily. The thing about ours is they are both a 1/3 known echo’s in Australia with LPG… takes “cheap to run” to a new level. They certainly do “keep on going”.
My mum bought the same yaris for $1600 in a perfect condition. Its 1.0L 68hp manual 2001. I put a little work on it like new grill, led lights, new rims and some interior upgrades. It turned to a clean sporty looking car.
Seats; STEAMER! I got a REALLY gross Fiat Panda and got the seats perfectly clean. A cheap steamer also doesn't cost much, and you will probably use it again in the future (great for removing wallpaper)
Echo is a great cheap car good work on your restoration. I bought 95 Tercel recently with a front end damage. It has been used as a rental and had all the intervals of service. Besides the crushed front end everything operates perfectly.
I was hoping you'd have a go at those filthy seats with some soapy water and a wet-dry vac (one of the most useful yet most overlooked tools there is). All the best with the new house.
These yarises are just bulletproof, my mother drive thru same 4 speed + overdrive automatic 1.3 liter engine and it just won't die, just change the oil and that's all it needs. Two things that are common failling points on these are the variable valve timing solenoid, the pcv valve and the catalytic converter
I've watched a couple of these videos now. When pouring from oil or coolant bottles, try pouring with the bottle sideways, it helps with the bottle 'glugging' and making a mess, also means you might not need the secondary pouring jugs - otherwise fun to watch and good production quality, keep it up
One of those relatively cheap Bissel spot clean wet vacs is really great for getting old seats looking near new again. Did this for a few of our old company utes before selling, had to do quite a few passes before the extracted liquid started looking less brown, but overall made an insane difference to both look and smell of the utes (one was a smokers ute), and made them a much easier sell.
Replace both rear wheel bearings . Yes just one bearing is worn but if you have the time and the car in the air just do both . Its better on the long term .
At first glance I thought it was the 99' Toyota Vitz listed in the ''Used car dealer II'' in Gran Turismo 4, but no its an Echo, I realized that its just another name plate for this generation and market but both are the same car 😂
The spark plug still looked a bit too loose based on that last little bit of thumb force you gave after the half turn, most cars are somewhere between 7 to 20 ft-lbs, you'll want to check for your specific model but it almost looks like you weren't even at 7 ft-lbs yet. I recently bought a used car & when I went to check the plugs I found one was not even hand tight, it had vibrated loose, someone had replaced it recently & must of not tightened it enough. For that car the spec was 11 ft-lbs, got new OEM plugs, checked the gaps, put anti-seize on the threads & replaced all the plugs, threaded by hand & used a torque wrench to tighten them down.
I really want to dislike this car. I can't. Cheap (most times), holds up really well over the years, small and practical for the city and has a lot of space for what it is.
I even use it on my phone. Cuts off all ads on TH-cam and I can turn the screen off and the videos don't stop. Same perks as TH-cam Premium without paying the premium.
5:19 Just water isn't bad per se. As long as it's distilled water, with deionized being preferable. Any other type (like tap water) will leave mineral deposits and though unlikely to destroy your engine if used for a short time, it's still possible. And even distilled water will promote galvanic corrosion, which definitely will destroy the engine over time. The major benefit to proper coolant is the anti-corrosive properties.
Good ol' Toyota Yaris from 1998 (Built in france). My first car. Reliable, cheap, eco friendly. Only needed 4.2l/100km. Im sure, it is still driving somewhere. I took really good care for my car though...
Great video! Plugs did look to bad, good to keep for spares. Also, I usually fill up my filter with oil to help the engine on start up, but only can be done if the filter is vertically upside down. Also, council and recycling depots can take the old oil and coolant too.
I still own the 4-door version and will not sell it for as long as I can. It simply is the best car in the world: it’s fuel-efficient, can fit quite large items if you collapse the seats, maintenance is cheap, it’s reliable as heck… I love my Yaris 5:00 I’d double-check that. Oil capacity in every Yaris of this generation I’ve known is 4 liters.
No lie, My mum owned a 2001 Toyota Echo 4-Door sedan in Silver, Got it for 500 loonies from the wreckers in 2014. It had 221,000 Kilometers on the clock, Had a LOT of issues, but it ran cromulently alright. The electrical system kicked the bucket in 2019 when mum was driving to work at night. It had 318,000 Kilometers when mum got rid of it. She got a 2019 Toyota CH-R Limited for 37,000 loonies in reddish maroon with a black roof. It has 68,000 kilometers, and it runs just fine. Toyota makes the most reliable cars EVER MADE!
An Echo! I had a green one as a first car and drove it until the back axles rusted away. Loved that thing and even with 240k miles on it it was still getting fantastic fuel economy.
I had a Corolla ae91, now a Karina t170, both cars are simply eternal, they require almost no investment. The engine is simple and reliable, like a Kalashnikov assault rifle, Japan made simply incredible cars: power steering, roadside lights when turning, power windows with a button, electric mirrors, automatic transmission. and this is all in 1991. I’m from Russia, here the first automatic machines appeared closer to 2010 (not our own development, essentially also Japanese), here there is a cult of old cars that have nothing in them, they cost from 1.5 thousand dollars, while I bought my Toyotas for 600 and 800 dollars.
As a viewer that does servicing on a daily basis..... you somehow manage to make it look fun. Though I still enjoy the work I do. The pottering work one does on a family members car or your own if you have one is definitely the most satisfying. The improvements and end result make me feel very proud and happy at the end. Edit: Maybe also flush out the power steering fluid. Not many people change it. If had to replace one and the old fluid, in many cases some type of ATF, was pitch black. It's suppose to be red and I would assume that would not provide sufficient lubrication.
We have a yaris car same model like that thats like that but its a good condition and super reliable ands it still runs only problem that the brakes are really low but we bought it on Facebook market also pls like and its still runs
The model we have here in Canada comes with the 1.5l. With the 5 speeds manual tranny, you can expect to make at leat 300 000 miles with it. Economic and build to last, when cars were designed with honesty.
Idk if anyone else in the comments mentioned this, but in one of his earliest vids, this one of his own Echo, Mr. Regular (RCR) gives a pretty neat turorial of how you can deep-clean the center console.
Oh mate well done. Enjoy. That thing I used to push it to the limit. Each fuel bar I worked out to be 50km each. I drove it mainly on empty and it never let me down. The Toyota product they’ve ever made.

I love psiverwi’s videos so much and I have for several years! Thanks for the entertainment, man!
I had thr canadian version of this car, the echo. It was so quirky and after 13 years i replaced the rear struts and the handling improved vastly. Gets blown around on the freeway and had thin doors. Mine was spotless like new inside for 17 years, i loved it.
Bouncy Yaris Moment
Whats this dealer
this is such a reliable car! if you go into the engine, you should definitely clean the air flow sensor with cleaning spray and change the air filter. You will see a huge difference after that
My dad a 08 Yaris with 496K miles and climbing with only regular maintenance. Great efficient, cheap little cars
There is one of these exact model Echo (Yaris for most the world) here in New Zealand that has done one million kms which is 621371.19 miles and it has never had any major repairs only maintenance done on it.
My mom got one of these Yaris’ in 2000 and it lasted her 13 years without problems. Toyota’s are such great cars
I really like this little car honestly. Glad your mum had years of problem free motoring!
I love seeing these car videos; I really like maintaining older things (both cars and computers) so seeing both on your channel is really cool! 😎
A 2k clear coat can will help your painting game a lot. You should try your hand at repainting or replacing those headlights as well. Nice car!
Some coarse to fine sanding, and finishing up with a clear coat really does wonders on headlights
fantastic video, it was informative and fun to watch :) we had Echos in the states for a few years but only in sedan and coupe style .
it is always nice to have fresh tires and fluids in a vehicle
Good call on changing the cabin filter, although the interior of the Echo didn’t smell at all surprisingly.
You can’t kill a BA falcon it seems!
The fact this was used for food delivery makes this 100x worse! Absolutely disgusting 🤢
I would say to get a steamer, it will clean up all the grime in that interior really easily, even the seats.
Probably the favorite car I ever owned, here cars will rust cars to death within 10-15 years on average.
taking a piss off and standing here there on 30 mints
Dude, I had this car for 6 years, driving every day like mad man no mercy. As incredible as it seems was fast super light, it fits a lot inside it never broke never give any problem. Somewhat dangerous after 130km/h
Time to get the popcorn ❤
(Please make more of these car resoration videos)
In the United States we got this Echo model but only the sedan and coupe version. The commercials that Toyota did for these little cars is quite funny!
love seeing these car restoration videos! between you and dankpods/garbage time it almost feels like I'm watching top gear, would love to see if you two can collab some day
Watch car throttle also
Very pleased to see this video as I bought a 2004 1.0 litre Yaris (in the UK) and with just over 200,000km on the clock it seems clapped out - yet my 2004 BMW with 530,000km on the clock still feels like new - but it's dead with an electrical fault ☹ Incidentally, the Yaris is also the preferred transport of many a food delivery driver here in the UK!
Can it bounce?)
Really great vid! I’ve gone through a similar thing with an echo for my partner, and have recently got one for myself as a daily. The thing about ours is they are both a 1/3 known echo’s in Australia with LPG… takes “cheap to run” to a new level. They certainly do “keep on going”.
I love the car videos almost more than the technology videos, keep a mix of them coming!! ❤
My mum bought the same yaris for $1600 in a perfect condition. Its 1.0L 68hp manual 2001. I put a little work on it like new grill, led lights, new rims and some interior upgrades. It turned to a clean sporty looking car.
I forgot to say that it's an 4 door
@@aleks4oo i bought mine for $32k 😂 its a 4 door Toyota vitz. They are sought after in my country.
Eucalyptus oil is the duct tape of the cleanliness world
Your videos are informative and also really chill to just sit down and enjoy, keep up the great work!
I was hoping you'd have a go at those filthy seats with some soapy water and a wet-dry vac (one of the most useful yet most overlooked tools there is). All the best with the new house.
toyota's are some of the most bullet proof cars I've seen, we have some running here in absolute horrendous condition but they run, absolute troopers!
Biggest problem: it doesn’t bounce
It should bounce 😂
These yarises are just bulletproof, my mother drive thru same 4 speed + overdrive automatic 1.3 liter engine and it just won't die, just change the oil and that's all it needs. Two things that are common failling points on these are the variable valve timing solenoid, the pcv valve and the catalytic converter
WHYS THIS DEALER TAKING A PISS IVE BEEN STANDING HERE FOR 30 MINUTES
came for the surface pro reviews, got lost in a rabbit hole of awesome content.
"Its time to give it a cleaning with eucalyptus oil" 🤣🤣
I've watched a couple of these videos now. When pouring from oil or coolant bottles, try pouring with the bottle sideways, it helps with the bottle 'glugging' and making a mess, also means you might not need the secondary pouring jugs - otherwise fun to watch and good production quality, keep it up
One of those relatively cheap Bissel spot clean wet vacs is really great for getting old seats looking near new again.
Did this for a few of our old company utes before selling, had to do quite a few passes before the extracted liquid started looking less brown,
but overall made an insane difference to both look and smell of the utes (one was a smokers ute), and made them a much easier sell.
Replace both rear wheel bearings . Yes just one bearing is worn but if you have the time and the car in the air just do both . Its better on the long term .
Why this Dealer?
taking the piss?
@@B10KPlaysGames ive been standing here for 30 min
I own a 2002 Toyota Echo sedan and I love it so much!! Been following your content for a while and you always make quality videos.
For that car the spec was 11 ft-lbs, got new OEM plugs, checked the gaps, put anti-seize on the threads & replaced all the plugs, threaded by hand & used a torque wrench to tighten them down.
why's this dealer...

This is called as Toyota Vitz in Pakistan, and it's still very popular. You'll see this nearly everywhere , albeit the 4 door one.
Why this dealer ?
Great video! We passed on our Yaris to our son when he started driving. They are tough little cars that can withstand a lot of abuse.
paint it pink. EMBRACE THE VITZ.
no
YES PINK
Been subscribed for a while, and loving the evolution from restoring old tech to restoring old cars!
8:54 he is sooo cutie
Its beautiful seeing someone take a machine that needs some work, put some love into it, and bring it back to operating condition.
The bouncing yariss
I really want to dislike this car. I can't. Cheap (most times), holds up really well over the years, small and practical for the city and has a lot of space for what it is.
Now paint it pink for the meme
I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla assent
Had it for a very long time runs amazing
bouncing yaris lore
this was a very nice and satisfying video! glad to have stumbled upon it on my recommended page
The video is terrible, the Yaris is not bouncing
Got a 07 Yaris hatchback! Purchased used in 2014. Best car I've ever bought. 180,000 miles plus.

I like Brave. No ads & Google popups.
It simply is the best car in the world: it’s fuel-efficient, can fit quite large items if you collapse the seats, maintenance is cheap, it’s reliable as heck… I love my Yaris
5:00 I’d double-check that.
Echo's hold 3.6 litres of oil
Awesome little cars
I have two in 5 speed manual guise
You just breathed new life into this old Toyota. Beautiful.
I just got rid of my bmw and got a Lexus CT200 love how smooth and well made
Toyotas are!
I have the same car (2004) and I love it!
I’m always making lil mods and fixes.
Personally I would've changed both back wheel bearings.one goes the other won't last long before it goes too.
