I don't watch Doom speedruns often, but seeing that trick in E1M6 with getting the door stuck on a Spectre was absolutely genius. Things like that are why I love this game.
Having Zero Master re-entering the Doom universe with a vengeance over the past few months (more Eternal Master level plays plus new Classic Nightmare records) along with decino doing full playthroughs of Classic Doom I+II on Nightmare has been *such* a treat.😎

The demons establish a beachhead on Phobos with a thousand (OK, it's closer to nine hundred) literally immortal monsters guarding it. Ten minutes later everything's exploded and one guy's broken through. In Hell there are good days, bad days, and Zero Master days.
The King is still going. Lets hope a new Doom is in the making for this absolute legend to keep making content. It sucks Doom is such a niche set of games as you deserve so much more recognition!

The linedef that lowers the lift can be triggered by monsters and the player. You'll notice that he waits for a second for monster to wander over it, then shoots the shotgun at the wall just to make sure they are awake and wandering around.

0:17 I didn't know that we could trigger that last secret lift from the shotgun secret room itself. Also I thought that the player needs to go up on that last secret lift to actually make the count increase.
@Ellis Antaya It's not just The Ultimate Doom where this happens, there is one map in a PWAD called The Classic Episode - I forgot which one - where you can if you are lucky get a Cacodemon to do the same thing
for a game like doom in the state that it is, i sometimes wonder when this game will be in the "pushed the human limits" area with stuff like super mario bros on the nes. it seems that we have not reached that state yet as constantly records are getting broken left and right.
If you told John Carmack or John Romero in 1994 that it’s possible to beat episode 1 in nightmare difficulty and find all secrets in roughly 10 minutes play through they wouldn’t believe you.
10:11 - Got to love the Intercepts Overflow bug! Doesn't the damaging floor work properly when it's triggered this way (e.g. when you perform a Void Glide on this map, you don't have to enter the sector that kills you, just be on the same x-axis as it due to the way Doom sectoring works)?
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't - as far as I know there's nothing about that bug that would make the "outside" of sectors act differently from how they do any other time. I think the main reason ZM heads straight for the room is because it's not really that far out of the way and the extra damage from the monsters speeds up the exit.
@@GeneralPotatoSalad It's risky, but there's a time-saving potential in the form of taking as much damage as you can in Computer Station just prior to exiting (without taking too long) so once you trigger the intercepts overflow in Phobos Anomaly, you can run straight to the outside of the death sector and exit immediately.

That's what I think. Episode One has SOOO many grunts and sergeants... Not to poopoo this accomplishments, it's amazing, I just can't help but think how much even just a LITTLE luck about how enemies decide to move, and therefor their positions to take a shot at you from, adds a lot to whether a playthrough can go great... or horribly!
It's just so intoxicating to watch a fast fulfilling Doom speedrun! So cool, I mean it's nightmare! That is so crazy, this was supposed to be so hard it was meant as a joke! Jokes on them!! Edit: Some of these levels gave me goosebumps just watching and knowing everything that is there.
@@Filip.777 It almost seemed like he struggled to open the door. I initially thought he was waiting for the exit bridge to raise, but it will be practially fully up by the time you get to the top of the stairs at full speed.
@@WaterCrane I tought he waited for the bridge so he doesn't get hit by the shotgunners while he waits, but he gets hit anyway and also he has a chaingun to deal with them... guess we'll never know unless zero master replies to this
Great run! What do you reckon you could get episode 3 down to? I have a 7:53 run that I have not uploaded and figured ideal would be like 7:30s (unless an exploit on a map exists that I am unaware of)
I dunno I'll just take whatever I get that's faster first and I'll consider coming back to it later, but 7m3Xs is probably a decent time. The route is quite straightforward as it is, don't see much that can be done faster.

NM + 100% Secrets is the best category on my opinion, because it forces you to really enter on combats along the map. Zero never disappoints!
I think it's the best category for the IWADs and Sigil, and NERF is nightmare only, but I think most PWADs best category is UV Max...

For episode runs, most people lure the sergeant into the door, but that's not possible on NM because he'll just stand there and shoot you.

To get the lift to lower the shotgun shot doesn't do it there's two light posts you have to go behind that then lowers the lift
